April/Easter April 5th Food Drive

Due to the Coronavirus, the Community Center of Northern Westchester has temporarily modified its operations. It will still be accepting food and

clothing donations. Bags of food will be put outside the backdoor for people to pick-up. If the

Coronavirus continues to spread, it's our low income neighbors stand to suffer the most. Food/

Life insecurities could increase exponentially, especially for children. Please donate generously to our April Easter food drive scheduled for April

5th. Thank for opening your heart to our neighbors in need!

CORONAVIRUS PRECAUTIONS

Until the danger of contracting the virus passes:

• Only the priest will receive the Precious Blood from the chalice.

• People are urged to refrain from a physical handshake at the Sign of Peace but rather extend it with a smile, wave or nod.

• The priests will not be shaking hands as you leave the church to avoid the spreading of germs.

• The Holy Water has been removed from the fonts to also avoid spreading germs.

Our Gospel this Sunday is the story of a Samaritan woman who encounters Jesus at Jacob’s well. We know the Samaritans and Jews were hostile enemies and used nothing in common. Jesus defies the cultural norms by being alone with a woman and even speaking to her. The quest for water represents a search for God. It has allusions to the life-giving waters of Baptism that we have received. The story tells us of the progression in faith this woman experienced. She first called Jesus a man, then a prophet but ultimately came to believe in Him as the Messiah. She told others about Him and they also came to believe. The progress in faith this woman made in her brief encounter with Christ reminds us that we too are called to grow in faith through the ways that we encounter Christ in our lives. May those encounters in the Sacraments, in prayer, in each other during this Lenten Season draw each of us closer to Christ.

This week the Church celebrates the feasts of St. Patrick and St. Joseph. St. Joseph is the patron of the Universal Church, workers and the grace of a happy death. His trust in God’s will allowed him to play a vital role in God’s plan of salvation. He took Mary as his wife and became the foster father of Jesus fulfilling the prophecy that Jesus would be born of the House of David.

St. Patrick is honored as the Apostle of Ireland where he planted the seeds of Christianity. Over the years those seeds bore much fruit, the Church grew and so many brought their faith to this country. He is the patron saint of the Archdiocese of New York, our beautiful Cathedral and of course, our wonderful parish.

We pray as we celebrate their lives that we may imitate their zeal in leading others to Christ.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day and St. Joseph’s Day to all!
