Congratulations to New Eagle Scout

Adam Minh-Long Nguyen will be having his Eagle Court of Honor on Sunday, June 5, 2016.

He is the son of Steven and Liza, and the brother of Brianna. Adam is currently a sophomore at St. Charles North High School.

Adam’s Eagle Project involved landscape work for St. Patrick’s Downtown Church Convent, preschool

and along the parking lot. Adam worked with a beneficiary, Mrs. Charity Davis, to design the gardens that would replace the weeds, overgrown grass and plants with perennial flowers and he also built a bird house. Adam researched, gathered the requirements for the project, managed the scope and changes, developed a project plan, deadlines, required materials and tools. He also secured funding for the project and procure donations from several local businesses to obtain materials. In total, he raised over $500 in funding. There were over 25 volunteers (including scouts, leaders, friends and family) who helped Adam with his Eagle project. Monsignor Knox blessed the grounds and the Sisters of St. Francis sang a blessing.

Adam began scouting as a Wolf Cub when he joined Pack 251 in 2nd Grade. In 5th Grade, he earned his Arrow of Light Award and crossed over to St. Patrick’s Boy Scout Troop 10. Over the past 5 years in Troop 10, Adam has moved up from Tenderfoot to Eagle. He held positions including Troop Guide, Scribe, Historian, Librarian, Chaplain’s Aide, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. He attended the 2014 Thunderbird National Youth Leadership Training. As the Senior Patrol Leader he led the troop for a 6-month period, in which he worked to improve the troop’s communication. Adam’s time in Troop 10 has provided him comradeship, commitment, hard work, educational experiences and fun times. His scouting experience has spanned over 8 years and has contributed to making him the kind, caring, responsible and proactive man he is today. He lives by the Scout Oath and Law in his everyday approach to what life brings his way.

“Bring your children or grandchildren to explore the Children’s Garden. They can plant a seed, play in the dirt, swing from the trees, play in the Forest Cottage, climb a log or put together butterfly puzzles. Join in and absorb the enthusiasm of children at play, who naturally allow their spirits to catch up with their bodies by being in nature,” said Ms. Marqui. Ms. Marqui, who is cancer-free from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and in remission from breast cancer, finds great restoration of spirit in her gardens & property and wants to share that. Visitors are welcome to do as they please. No activity is required or requested. People are welcome to read, nap, draw, meditate, journal, swing or simply do nothing.

The June 12th opening will offer an Optional OutdoorYoga In The Garden Class from 1 pm – 2 pm,
