Into the Deep
Simon Peter, the fisherman, is the first to be called persona-lly by Jesus in Luke's Gospel. His calling resembles Isaiah's commissioning in the First Reading: Confronted with the holiness of the Lord, both Peter and Isaiah are overwhelmed by a sense of their sinfulness and inadequacy. Yet each experiences the Lord's forgiveness and is sent to preach the good news of His mercy to the world.
No one is "fit to be called an apostle," Paul recognizes in today's Epistle. But by "the grace of God," even a perse-cutor of the Church as Paul once was - can be lifted up for the Lord's service. In the Old Testament, humanity was unfit for the divine - no man could stand in God's presence and live (see Exodus 33:20). But in Jesus, we're ma-de able to speak with Him face-to-face, taste His Word on our tongue.
Today's scene from Isaiah is recalled in every Mass. Be-fore reading the Gospel, the priest silently asks God to cleanse his lips that he might worthily proclaim His Word. God's Word comes to us as it came to Peter, Paul, Isaiah, and today's Psalmist as a personal call to leave everything and follow Him, to surrender our weak-nesses in order to be filled with His strength.
Simon put out into deep waters even though, as a profes-sional fisherman, he knew it would be foolhardy to ex-pect to catch anything. In humbling himself before the Lord's command, he was exalted - his nets filled to over-flowing; later, as Paul tells us, he will become the first to see the risen Lord.
Jesus has made us worthy to receive Him in the com-pany of angels in God's holy Temple. On our knees like Peter, with the humility of David in today's Psalm, we thank Him with all our hearts and join in the unending hymn that Isaiah heard around God's altar: "Holy, holy, holy." (see also Revelation 4:8).

5to. Domingo del Tiempo ordinario El evangelista, hoy, nos recuerda que «rememos mar adentro y echemos las redes para pescar» y, aunque las redes salgan vacías, no nos desanimemos sino que lo intentemos una y otra vez. Pero para echar las redes tenemos que tener dos actitudes fundamentales: fe y constancia. ¿Difícil? Sí, pero no imposible. Debe-mos aprender a nadar a contracorriente y no desani-marnos porque nuestra pesca es la pesca de herma-nos para el Reino de Dios y no todas las personas están dispuesta a escuchar y, menos, a seguirle.
Jesús insiste: «echad las redes», nosotros no termi-namos de creerlo pero Él insiste; no nos deja solos, nos acompaña, nos enseña con su testimonio y pa-labra. Nos creemos más sabios que nadie y pensa-mos que nadie puede enseñarnos más de lo que sa-bemos y sobre todo, como pasó con Jesús, si es al-guien que tiene menos estudios o pertenece a una familia más humilde. ¿Qué hacemos? Dejar de lu-char, de pescar, nos bajamos de la barca, dejamos la red y no hacemos frente a los problemas.
¿Dónde está nuestra confianza en el Espíritu, nues-tra fe, nuestra constancia? Dios nos hace libres, in-teligentes, iguales; pone a nuestro alcance todo lo necesario para enfrentarnos a los problemas y nos da el don de la palabra para atraer a nuestros hermanos al camino de la fe. En definitiva, a ser mejores personas y a trabajar por un mundo más justo y equitativo para todos.
El buen seguidor de Jesús no debe esperar un mila-gro sino que en su día a día debe tener esperanza, fe, constancia y hacer suya esta frase esencial: «Rendirme, lo siento eso no va conmigo» porque sé que Dios me acompaña y su Espíritu me alienta.

BÀI ĐỌC 1: Is 6,1-8 Tường thuật ơn gọi của Isaia. Chúng ta hãy để ý đến tâm trạng và phản ứng của ông: Trong một thị kiến, Isaia thấy mình đang ở trong Đền thờ. Qua những hiện tượng đặc biệt như cảnh các thiên thần tung hô, các cửa đền thờ rung chuyển, đền thờ nghi ngút khói v.v. Isaia, biết là có Thiên Chúa đang hiện diện. Cảm giác đầu tiên của Isaia là thấy mình quá tội lỗi khi đứng trước Thiên Chúa thánh thiện. Nhưng khi Thiên Chúa sai một thiên thần thanh tẩy Isaia và sau đó mời gọi ông làm ngôn sứ, thì Isaia đã mạnh dạn đáp lời. ĐÁP CA: TV 137
BÀI ĐỌC 2: 1 Cr 15,1-11 Nhiều người chống đối Phaolô, cho rằng ông không đủ tư cách làm tông đồ. Để trả lời họ, Phaolô nói rằng tất cả những gì ông rao giảng đều là những gì ông đã lãnh nhận từ giáo huấn của Chúa Giêsu. Phaolô cũng chứng mình rằng chính Chúa Giêsu đã chọn ông như đã chọn các tông đồ khác.
TUNG HÔ TIN MỪNG: Alleluia, alleluia! -Lạy Chúa, xin hãy mở lòng chúng con, để chúng con lắng nghe lời Con của Chúa. Alleluia.
PHÚC ÂM: Lc 5,1-11 Bài tường thuật việc Chúa Giêsu kêu gọi các môn đệ đầu tiên trong Tin Mừng Luca có nhiều chi tiết hơn bài tường thuật ngắn gọn trong Mt 4,19-22: - Họ đang giặt lưới để dẹp cất, vì suốt đêm đánh không được con cá nào. - Chúa Giêsu bảo họ thử đánh một mẻ nữa. Phêrô không tin vào sự thành công, nhưng nễ lời Ngài nên ông thả lưới. - Một mẻ lưới nhiều cá quá sức tưởng tượng đã khiến Phêrô và các bạn khám phá ra thân phận siêu phàm của Chúa Giêsu đồng thời cũng ý thức thân phận hèn hạ tội lỗi của mình. - Khi đó Chúa Giêsu lên tiếng gọi họ theo Ngài làm môn đệ. Và họ đã từ bỏ mọi sự để theo Ngài.
Suy Niệm: "Lạy Chúa, xin hãy tránh xa con vì con là kẻ tội lỗi". Lời Phêrô đã thốt lên khi thấy phép lạ Ðức Giêsu thực hiện quá nhiệm mầu. Phêrô và mọi người vừa sung sướng vừa kinh ngạc trước sự kiện lớn lao ấy. Ông thấy con người mình thật thấp hèn và giới hạn, không thể xứng với tình thương của vị Thiên Chúa quyền phép. Nhưng Ðức Giêsu đã hiền từ: "Ðừng sợ, từ nay con sẽ trở thành kẻ đánh cá người". Thiên Chúa không chê bỏ sự thấp hèn của con người. Ngài luôn tin dùng, kêu mời con người cộng tác với Ngài.
Cầu Nguyện: Lạy Chúa Giêsu, ngày nay, đâu đâu người ta cũng cổ võ, nêu cao tinh thần sống thông cảm, trao đổi và cộng tác với nhau trong mọi công việc. Chúng con đã nhận ra nét đẹp ấy bắt nguồn từ nơi Chúa. Xin cho chúng con không chỉ cộng tác với nhau mà phải cộng tác với ơn Thánh Chúa, để những công việc chúng con làm trở nên hữu ích cho chúng con và cho mọi người. Amen.
Chuyện Minh Họa:
Thánh Gioan Vianney, lúc còn là chủng sinh, học rất chậm. Ngày kia, một giáo sư thần học, thừa lệnh Đức Giám Mục đến khảo sát Vianney xem có đủ khả năng học vấn để tới chức linh mục chăng? Tuy đã dốc hết sức học hành, Vianney vẫn không thể trả lời được câu nào cho trôi chảy. Nổi nóng, vị giáo sư đập bàn nói : "Vianney, anh dốt đặc như con lừa ! Với một con lừa như anh, Giáo Hội hy vọng làm nên trò trống gì". Vianney khiêm tốn bình tĩnh trả lời : "Thưa cha, ngày xưa Samson chỉ dùng một cái xương hàm con lừa mà đánh bại 3000 quân Phi-litinh. Vậy với cả một con lừa này, Thiên Chúa không làm được việc gì sao ?" Quả thật, con lừa của Thiên Chúa đó, sau này không chỉ trở thành một cha sở, mà còn được tôn phong làm thánh bổn mạng của các cha sở. Hôm nay, Simon cũng vất vả suốt một đêm chài lưới mà không bắt được một con cá nào, nhưng : "Vì lời Thầy con sẽ thả lưới" (Lc 5,5). Và lạ thay, một mẻ cá lớn bất ngờ, đến nỗi lưới hầu như sắp rách. Trước tình thế này, Simon chỉ còn biết bỏ thuyền, chạy đến sấp mình dưới chân Chúa Giêsu mà nói : "Lạy Chúa, xin Chúa hãy tránh xa con, vì con là kẻ tội lỗi" (Lc 5,8). Kẻ nhận mình là tội lỗi yếu hèn đó, sau này đã trở thành Phêrô, người thuyền trưởng của con thuyền Giáo Hội. Có một điểm gì đó rất giống nhau, rất tương đồng giữa Vianney và Phêrô. Đó chính là nhận mình yếu hèn khuyết điểm và hoàn toàn để Chúa lèo lái điều khiển đời mình. Nhờ đó, Chúa đã ban tặng cho các ngài những đậc ân vô cùng lớn lao. Vì ơn Chúa chỉ ban xuống cho những kẻ khiêm nhượng.
