  • EOTHINON 6 TONE 8

6 8 Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost & Second Sunday of Luke

Apostle Ananias of the Seventy, first bishop of Damascus

& Righteous Father Romanos the Melodist

Martyr Domninos of Thessalonica; Venerable John Koukouzelis &

Gregory the Domestikos of the Great Lavra on Athos; Venerable

    Sabbas of Vishera in Russia

: RESURRECTIONAL APOLYTIKION IN TONE EIGHT

From the heights Thou didst descend, O compassionate One, and Thou didst submit to the

three-day burial, that Thou might deliver us from passion; Thou art our life and our

Resurrection, O Lord, glory to Thee.

.APOLYTIKION OF ST. ANANIAS IN TONE THREE

O holy Apostle Ananias, intercede with our merciful God to grant our souls forgiveness of

    sins.

    .

APOLYTIKION OF ST. ROMANOS IN TONE EIGHT

Through thee, the divine likeness was securely preserved, O father Romanos; for thou didst

carry the cross and follow Christ. By example and precept thou didst teach us to ignore the

body, because it is perishable, and to attend to the concerns of the undying soul. Therefore,

doth thy soul rejoice with the angels.

    .

    .

.TROPARION OF SAINT NICHOLAS IN TONE FOUR

The verity of your actions revealed you to your flock a rule of faith, an icon of` mildness, and

teacher of abstinence, O Father Bishop Nicholas; wherefore by humility you have achieved

exaltation and by poverty richness. Intercede with Christ our God to save our souls.

. KONTAKION FOR ORDINARY SUNDAYS IN TONE TWO

O protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the Creator most

constant, O despise not the suppliant voices of those who have sinned; but be thou quick, O

good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession, and speed

thou to make supplication, thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.

    : . .

    . . THE EPISTLE

Make your vows to the Lord our God and perform them.

God is known in Judah; His Name is great in Israel.

The Reading from the Second Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians. (6:16-7:1)

Brethren, we are the temple of the living God; as God said, I will live in them and

move among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Therefore, come out

from them, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; then I will

welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the

Lord Almighty. Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every

defilement of body and spirit, and make holiness perfect in the fear of God.

    .

    . , .

    . THE HOLY GOSPEL

The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (6:31-36)

The Lord said: As you wish that men would do to you, do so to them. If you love

those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners

do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to

you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love your enemies, and do

good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be

sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. Be merciful, even as

    your Father is merciful.

Among the over 5000 books (including over 100 in Arabic) are 400 Audio-Visual items and all the issue of The Word magazine from 1975- 2017. Presently, there is a vacancy for a new Librarian. If you would like to volunteer to help maintain this treasure of our Cathedral, please see Bob Andrews or contact Fr. Calinic through the church office.

GOD DOES NOT ALWAYS STOP THE STORMS Life usually has its storms. Sometimes storms come naturally, sometimes sent by the Devil and sometimes God causes them to happen. God will not always keep us away from the storms, But He is always near in the times of trouble. He does not always calm the storm, but he does give us the inner strength to endure it and to have a safe landing. For it is in facing storms that we grow. When the Lord Jesus Christ Himself endured the terrible storm of anxiety in the garden of Gethsemane just before His crucifixion; He said, "My soul is sorrowful, even unto death". God did not stop the storm. Rather He strengthened, Him inwardly to be able to face the cross. Let us trust Him to keep us safe whether He gives us calm or storm.

  • God could have kept Daniel out of the lion's den.. He could have kept the three Hebrew children out of the fiery furnace... He could have kept Sts. Paul and Silas out of the Jail... But God has never promised to keep us out of hard places or to still all our storms. What He has promised is to go with us through rough seas and hard places and to bring us through victoriously. He promised to remain with us always in the same boat. "I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS EVEN TO THE END OF THE AGE". (Matt. 28.20). ELEN SALEH

  • ST. NICHOLAS KIDS CLUB THANKSGIVING PROGRAM

Once again this year the St. Nicholas Kids Club will be distributing food baskets for Thanksgiving to the needy in our surrounding community on Saturday, November 18, 2017. We are hoping to prepare 400 food baskets as our demand increases each year.

THE COST OF EACH BASKET IS $30. Because of this need we are asking each family and individual to participate in this ministry by donating the cost of two (2) baskets. If you can give more it would be greatly appreciated. We give thanks to God for all of the support and generosity that you have shown by sharing in this ministry of love over the past 25 years. Please see Ed or Georgette Malouf in the Hall after Liturgy or call us at 818-563-2838. You may also mail your check to us at 1021 N. Orchard Drive, Burbank, CA 91506. Please make checks payable to St. Nicholas Cathedral and write Kids Club in the memo line. This event will start on the Cathedral grounds at 7:30 AM and will conclude by 11:00 AM. We ask that join us and bring your children so they can witness this ministry. We also ask that you join us the night before to help assemble the food baskets from 6:30 8:30 PM at the Cathedral.

May God Bless You for Your Support of This Ministry
