COLLEGES VISITING SMHS: Throughout the fall, admissions representatives from a number of colleges and universities will be visiting our school in order to share information with prospective students. Emails and/or announcements will be made alerting students of these opportuni-ties. Seniors may want to monitor their email, Moodle, and the SMHS Online Calendar for dates/times of upcoming events held at St. Michael.

COLLEGE VISITATION DAY: On Wednesday, October 10 seniors will not have school so that they may visit a college or university of their choice. Although each college and university establishes its own rules in regards to arranging an official visit, students may begin by contacting the Office of Admissions or Office of Enrollment Services for assistance in planning their campus tour. Check college or university websites for con-tact information and news on upcoming events. We encourage each senior to take a campus tour to gain valuable information to support their college decisions! PERMISSION FOR COLLEGE VISITS: When a student is plan-ning a college visit or tour day, his/her parent(s)/guardian(s) must forward a written request to Mr. Joey Sanchez, Dean of Students, prior to the actual date of the visit. The student should return to school the day following his/her absence with a letter of verification of attendance which will be provid-ed by the college or university upon request. Mr. Sanchez will review the requested information prior to and following the event when considering the validity of granting an educational excused absence for the time missed away from school. Please refer to the St. Michael High School Student/Parent Handbook for further details regarding educational absences.

SMHS SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

St. Michael High School students put their school-year theme “Warriors United” into action by collecting

back-to-school supplies for other students in the diocese. Supplies were collected and donated to area

Catholic elementary schools. This annual drive is just one of the many examples of the school’s year-

round Christian service program that involves St. Michael students giving back to others.

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL:

This school year our theme of “Warriors United” reminds us all that we are called to join together to be Christ’s body here on earth. We are united in our faith and united in our commitment to help form our students in holiness. The work of form-ing our young men and young women is too large and important a task for the school to take on in isolation. We renew our commitment to partner with our par-ents to challenge our students to grow into the people that God calls them to be.

Despite the challenges that all the new construction brings, we have had a smooth start to the school year. New students attended technology training in late July, while all students attended orientation days in early August. Faculty and staff participated in several professional development days where they learned about educating our students for their future, as we focus on relevance, classroom rigor and student engagement. We thank everyone, especially our Student Council, Home and School and Warrior Club, who helped to prepare for our fantastic start to the year.

At the end of the first week of classes, the entire school celebrated by gathering in the new front parking lot to enjoy popsicles, music, and some down time with friends. Our Club Day, School Supply Drive, and Back to School Dance were all big successes. Father Reuben Dykes, our chaplain, celebrated our first all school mass on the Feast of the Assumption. Last month the St. Michael Fall Honors Assembly was held. In the presence of their peers, students were recognized for their academ-ic accomplishments from the previous school year. New National Honor Society members were inducted during a special ceremony. We look forward to celebrat-ing more of our achievements as the school year unfolds.

The start of the school year reminds us just how fortunate we are to be able to offer a state of the art, Catholic education to our students. The faculty, staff, and admin-istration join together with the Catholic Church and with all of our parents to com-plete our mission, which is to foster the spiritual, intellectual, and the personal de-velopment of each and every one of our students. We ask you to join us in prayer as we set our students on a path to become committed disciples of Christ.

Blessings,

Ellen B. Lee

St. Michael High Schools Annual Giving Campaign, the Warrior Fund for Excellence will be launched this month. The gen-

erous support and dedicated commitment of parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends allows St. Michael to continue to strengthen

its financial future.

Tuition payments and related fees cover approximately 80% of the school’s annual budget. The remainder of the budget is covered

through our fundraising efforts, the largest of these being the Warrior Fund for Excellence. The annual budget at St. Michael High

School helps sustain and maintain excellence in our academic and instructional programs, extracurricular and athletic programs, and

the building and plant operations at St. Michael High School.

The Warrior Fund for Excellence is vital to the development and growth of each of these programs at the school. This year you have

the opportunity to give to one of three pre-designated areas including academics, scholarships, and athletics. You can also select to

give to the greatest area of need at St. Michael High School.

The financial goal this year is to raise $60,000 from all donors. Make your gift today at www.smhsbr.org/giving and help us reach

our goal!

Warrior family & friends,

We are honored to serve as the Chair Family for the 2018-2019 Warrior Fund for Excellence. St. Michael High School is a very spe-

cial place for our family. All three of our children have now attended St. Michael as students.

We feel blessed that our girls chose St. Michael because we love the fellowship that the school community has provided for our en-

tire family. St. Michael develops students spiritually, intellectually, and personally through its advanced academics, creative arts,

and athletics. The school is committed to the development of young men and women as committed disciples of Christ.

We ask that you join our family and give to this important annual campaign. Prayerfully consider the amount that you are able to

give, and know that every gift is appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your generosity in paying forward the many blessings we all enjoy at St. Michael High School.

Dear Warrior Parents,

Thank you for making the decision to send your student to St. Michael. This statement of support means you recognize the value of providing your child with a quality, Catholic education.

As a parent, your financial support is vital to the continued growth and development of St. Michael High

School. We encourage you to explore the opportunities and events that we offer to help keep our school

community thriving. Please look forward to receiving a personal invitation to participate in the following:

Warrior Fund for Excellence – This is our annual giving campaign that will be launched in Septem-ber. The funds from this drive are used to sustain and maintain excellence in our academic and instructional programs, extracurricular and athletic programs, and day to day building & opera-tions.

Continuing the Warrior Legacy Capital Campaign – This campaign is the building campaign for the school, and will provide the school with an additional gym, new auditorium and stage, black-box theatre, and parking improvements.

Warrior Golf Classic – November 12, 2018 at Greystone Country Club. This event is the primary fundraiser for our athletic teams, extracurricular clubs, and activities at the school.

Warrior Lei’dback Luau – March 23, 2019 at St. Michael High School. The proceeds from this event provide funding for academic programs and enhancements on our campus.

Corporate Partnership Program – This program offers businesses the opportunity to advertise and partner with our school through a variety of outlets.

We challenge you to help make St. Michael a better school every day through making a financial com-mitment in support of our school.
