Nicholas… Last weekend I had the blessing of being part of the par- ish youth who went on a Steubenville Conference held in Springfield, Mo. From Friday the 17 th thru Sunday the 19 th , we were amidst more than 4,000 youth and their leaders from different parishes. These summer weekend Youth Conferences are held all over the country to help the youth encounter Christ in a personal and a powerful way. The conference consisted of ‘praise and worship’ led by contemporary Christian musicians, reinvigorating and inspiring sessions by lay team members, the Holy Eucharist and sacrament of Penance. The youth enjoyed the entertainment activity which consisted of dancing, singing, karate, and cooking competitions. Besides many activities, for me the highlight of the sessions was defi- nitely witnessing youth encountering Christ in the Eucha- rist and Eucharistic adoration. I have been to two of these conferences, and have been struck by the openness of the youth and their energy. After highly charged, ener- gizing sessions, lively praise and worship, and beautiful liturgies, the youth also had moments of silence. It was amazing to watch these highly charged youth adoring the Lord in silence and they were some of the most powerful moments. Our youth were at their best, as always, and I am very thankful to the great team, especially Deacon John, Rhonda, and Anne Burkard. What a fantastic team of staff we have at the parish that dedicates their time and energy for the youth. They were certainly a great wit- ness, inspiration, and support for the group. I am grateful to Rhonda for her dedication and hard work in the parish youth ministry, the results are obvious. I asked Rhonda to share her letter which she had written to the parents after the Conference. Rhonda’s letter will give you some insight about the Steubenville Youth Conference 2015. Here is her letter about the Steubenville Conference: Hopefully by now you have had some time to visit with your youth about their experience at the Steubenville Con- ference. You have probably asked how it was and they said “good”. Maybe they tried to explain it, but let me tell you, it is hard to explain what takes place under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. I have been a youth minister for the past 12 years. I have been to many camps and conferences, (which is the reason for the longevity of my career as a youth minister)! This past weekend, being in an arena with 4,000 people, mostly teenagers, praising God, going to Mass, and hearing amaz- ing speakers, was a weekend where the fire of the Holy Spirit was alive and active in a very profound way! Our St. Michael teens experienced a “feeling” of the love of Christ that many have never felt before. For a lot of us that “feeling” may fade over time. What was stressed at the conference, and I reiterate now, is our faith is far more than a “feeling”. It is about a relationship with Jesus Christ and as all relationships do, it is a relationship that requires work. The question was asked, how do we get a Steubenville Con- ference to go beyond a weekend “feeling” and replace it with limitless faith? The answer for those of us who have stayed involved and attended multiple conferences was a decision and commitment to nurture our relationship with Christ and with others who have had a similar experience. Our St. Michael Youth Group is mostly comprised of youth and adult mentors who have had experiences on either a CHWC Mission Trip or a Steubenville Conference. We meet weekly (most weeks) on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00pm (official time-but often they hang around well past that time). I have encouraged all your youth to come join us, and now I encourage you to assist them in making the time to get involved, if not with the youth group, then in another Parish ministry that assists in fueling the fire that was ig- nited this weekend.” Rhonda Kelsey If you went to a Steubenville conference this summer, this is for you: When you go home, when you get back to real life, when there's no more music, no more lights, no more crowds of like-minded people...You still have Je- sus. What you experienced was not an event or a feeling, it was a person and He's not going anywhere. In fact, He's everywhere. The same God you encountered is physically present in every tabernacle, in every Catholic Church. Also, He's with you, and loving you all the time, waiting for you to connect with Him in prayer. Don't let your conference experience be just that. Our prayer is that this one weekend ignites or rekindles your relation- ship with our Good Shepherd. He is so in love with you because you are important, you matter, you are His beloved. From LifeTeen International God bless you! Thanks to our Youth for their openness and thanks to the awesome team!

Parish Tithe – 2014-15 Each year, the Social Ministries Committee has been entrusted with a portion of parish income, which they distribute back to those in need in our community and our world. As donations go out, heartfelt thanks come back to us, the people of St. Michael! Beneficiaries of your generosity include:

The Furniture Mission “Making Houses into Homes”

”We help people who are referred to us from other agencies with basic needs furni-ture. Having a bed to sleep on, a table to eat at, a lamp to read by, etc. gives people hope, dignity and self worth. Last year, our generous community donated 18,054 pieces of furniture and we served 1,652 referrals. With the help of supporters such as you, we will continue to see positive changes in people’s lives as we serve the Lord by serving others.

“Your generous gift is sincerely appreciated.”
