RELIGION NEWS Holy Week Liturgy

All families are warmly invited and encouraged to participate in our whole school Easter Liturgy, this Thursday at the Upper Campus School Hall, from 9.15 am. This beautiful liturgy is being conducted by the Upper Campus children.

ENROLMENTS FOR PREP 2014 St Mary’s School is currently accepting names

for eligible Prep students for 2014 PREP AGE Children who were born from July 01 – December 31, 2008 and January 01 – June 30, 2009 are eligible for Prep in 2014. If you have a child or know of anyone who has a child for Kindy or Prep next year, please ensure that their details are taken by the office staff as soon as possible.

Even if you have existing children at St Mary’s, you must register your child’s name for Prep and / or Kindy.

Week 6: Rollen from Papua New Guinea When Rollen was in Year 10 at high school, she met Sister Maryanne, Director of Mercy Works (Goroka/Mt Hagen) in Papua New Guinea (PNG). A project of the Sisters of Mercy and supported by Mercy Works (Australia) and Caritas Australia, this group supports vulnerable people.

Together they spoke about problems affecting PNG youth such as poverty and unemployment. They also discussed Rollen’s life; how it had changed dramatically over the last few years, and what she wanted for the future.

Growing up in a small village, Rollen always felt “useless and hopeless” so at 17, she decided to start school. After completing Years 7, 8 and 9, she volunteered to plant trees for Mercy Works. This was Rollen’s first contact with the organisation. They taught her microfinance, so her family could earn an income and assisted her with further studies. Now 24, Rollen works in a hotel in Port Moresby.

“With a humble heart I would like to acknowledge Mercy Works for their support, encouragement and advice. Thank you to the Australian People too for supporting Caritas and Mercy Works.”

SCHOOL JUMPERS FOR TERM 2 & 3

The Principal reminds all students to have a school jacket or school jumper packed into their school bag each morning for Term 2 and Term 3. It is can be quite cold in our grounds each morning.

Equestrian On Saturday 23 March, Bridget (7Rutledge) and Anna Hegerty (4Lancuba) represented the school at Dressage on the Downs in Toowoomba. Bridget rode Little Prince Charlie and Rathowen Russel, and Anna rode Justin Time in the Preliminary Classes. Both were happy with their day, achieving qualifiers for State Championships.

Southern Downs Rugby League Congratulations to the following players who were chosen to represent the Southern Downs at the Darling Downs trials in Toowoomba on Sunday 28 April: 11 Year Boys Jack Pike, Rielly Byrne, Matthew Henry. 12 Year Boys Nicholas Mansfield, Sam Ogden, Taegan Inmon, Caleb King, Jack Duggan, Mitchell Hay.

Woolworths – Earn & Learn Program This year St Mary’s will once again be involved in the Woolies – Earn & Learn program. This will be running from 08 April until 09 June. Sticker sheets will be available from the school after the holidays.

At the beginning of this year we received last year’s Earn & Learn order and were overwhelmed by the amount of valuable resources we were able to obtain. We encourage everyone that shops at Woolies to participate in this worthwhile endeavour.
