St. Mary’s Primary School Thursday November 15th, 2018 Term 4 Week 6 Remembrance Day: Last Friday November 9 th , the school observed Remembrance Day with a moving commemoration prepared by Mrs Hogan. As part of preparation the students and staff made a hundred poppies to commerate the 100th year since the end of World War One with the signing of the Armistice. During the service students were told about Mrs Hogan's family, the McCredden family, who had five sons go to the war and only two returned. One soldier died on Galipoli and two died on the Western Front. The loss of these family members causing so much grief throughout the war years and beyond. With the death of over 60,000 lives during the First World War coming from every little town, district and city in Australia including Donald community who lost over 40 lives the change to everyone and the community would have been enormous. Part of the day was also spent visiting the Court House to look at the World War One Exhibition showing many different displays related to these years. Lest We Forget. Grade 3 & 4 ‘Lakes and Craters by the Sea’- Warrnambool Camp: Yesterday the Grade 3 and 4 class headed off to Warrnambool on their Lakes and Craters Camp. Attached are some of the photos that we have received today of the children enjoying their time. More photos and news on the camp will be on next weeks Newsletter. Junior Class Excursion: Sovereign Hill and Maze House On Friday, November 23rd the Grades Prep, One and Two students will go on an

excursion to Sovereign Hill and on the way home visit the Maze House. Any queries

regarding the day please contact the Office or Mrs Drum. Permission forms are due

back on Monday, November 19th. Details are in the letter sent home or on the

School App.

Puberty Awareness Program:

The students in Grade Five and Six will participate in a puberty awareness program

ran by East Wimmera Health Service on Friday November 30th and Friday December

7th. Mrs Kerry Wood a Community Health Nurse will run the sessions.

Luke Kennedy ‘ Bullying and Related Issues On Monday November 26th from 11.30am – 1.00pm the students in Grades Three to

Six will be attending a session in the Big Shed at the Donald Primary school where

Luke Kennedy will speak about strategies to deal with bullying and related issues.

This session has been organised by the Donald High School.

At 7.00pm in the evening there will be a session for adults. All families are invited to

attend.

Assembly Award: Congratulations to Patience for

your award for writing.

Donald Chamber of Commerce

This year the Chamber of Commerce is

organising a 'Dress the Christmas Tree' in

the Mall and Christmas carols on Sunday

2nd December at 7pm.

Prior to this evening students will have decorated Christmas decorations made by the Men’s Shed at school

Children and their families are invited to come along to the evening to join in the singing. Kerry Duncan has organised a small choir to help lead the singing and Ann Walsh will be playing keyboard.
