Term 4 Week 6
Remembrance Day: Last Friday November 9th, the school
observed Remembrance Day with a moving commemoration
prepared by Mrs Hogan. As part of preparation the students and
staff made a hundred poppies to commerate the 100th year since
the end of World War One with the signing of the Armistice.
During the service students were told about Mrs Hogan's family, the
McCredden family, who had five sons go to the war and only two
returned. One soldier died on Galipoli and two died on the Western
Front. The loss of these family members causing so much grief
throughout the war years and beyond.
With the death of over 60,000 lives during the First World War
coming from every little town, district and city in Australia
including Donald community who lost over 40 lives the change to
everyone and the community would have been enormous.
Part of the day was also spent visiting the Court House to look at
the World War One Exhibition showing many different displays
related to these years. Lest We Forget.
