Fall Festivals The Fall Festival at St. Mary’s in Bloomington is next weekend and St. Charles Festival in Cassville is in two weeks.

Reminder: The Sunday Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s on Sunday, September 8. We need each person in the parishes to help make the festivals a success. The Fall Fest. Committees have already done a lot of work and planning for these events. Please do all that you can to ensure that we have the best Fall Festivals ever through your generous dona-tions, attendance and help with the activities.

Sharing Our Blessings THANK YOU to everyone who supports the four parishes in our cluster financially and with their time and talents. We can not remain strong, vibrant faith communi-ties without your generous support.

Fr. John’s Notes 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time True humility requires that we acknowledge our weaknesses, our imperfections, our humanness. We are not more important than our neighbor. Sirach offers this as a lesson to guide the listener. Jesus tries

to teach this to the Pharisees in the Gospel we hear today. Hu-mility begets generosity, as it recognizes the value of neighbor, especially those who are put down. True generosity is shown when giving to those who cannot repay.

Suddenly Fall is Here & School Begins The teachers at St. Charles and St. Mary’s Schools have

been attending in-services and preparing their rooms and mate-rial for a great year. On Monday, Bishop Donald Hying cele-brated a Mass at St. Joseph’s in Dodgeville with the teachers, principals, and pastors of the Catholic schools in our area. He gave an inspiring homily about the importance of making Christ the center and foundation of all we do in our Catholic schools. He blessed everyone and said that he is praying for us.

Learn More about the Catholic Faith Fall is a great time to start something new! If you are not Catholic or have not received some of the sacra-

ments (Baptism, Communion, Confirmation) this would be an excellent time to enter into the process of looking more deeply into the Catholic faith. We will have sessions beginning this fall, and we do not ask for a formal commitment. You may simply come and ask questions about the faith. Please call Marcia Hampton at (994-2149) or myself for more information. The sessions will be at a time that is convenient for everyone in the group.

Thank You from Fr. Paul Fagan Dear Friends, Greetings from Prairie du Chien, WI by the great Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers. My weekend travels continue to take me to many other very beautiful areas of Wisconsin. I have found beauty wherever I have gone, not just in the landscape but in the warm hearted welcoming people that I meet in every parish. Your love and generosity not only mean a lot to me but to all of the people that you continue to help by supporting me in my efforts to continue to develop and improve Songambele Hospital. My sincere and grateful thanks to all of you who have helped me help others for so many many years. I still have an education program for students who need help but fewer students than in former years. I can not longer afford to do road work. With a staff of 63 medical personel the hospital is up and running and saving lives, especially those of mothers and children. In a 12 month period our doctors did 220 c-sections as well as 90 various major operations. Over 1500 patients were treated in our minor theater. In a 12 month period nearly 15,000 patients received care in Songambele Hopspital. Your continued help is appreciated and necessaary. Building and operating a first class hospital is the greatest challenge I have faced in my 59 years of missionary work. With your help we will meet the challenge that God has given us. It is His work and He will accomplish it according to His will. God Bless you all, Fr. Paul The gift of grace increases as the struggles increase. —St. Rose of Lima

Reflection “Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you." (Luke 14:13-14)

We have a difficult time with the concept of giving without expecting something in return. Even when we give to charity we often want something in return – a raffle ticket, a dinner, a chance to play golf or our name in print. Yet, as Christian stewards, we need to remember that the true reward for our giving awaits us in heaven. Celebrate Life “Brother kills brother. Like the first fratricide, every murder is a violation of the "spiritual"

kinship uniting mankind in one great family, in which all share the same fundamental good: equal personal dignity. Not infrequently the kinship "of flesh and blood" is also violated; for example when threats to life arise within the relationship between parents and children, such as happens in abortion or when, in the wider context of family or kinship, euthanasia is encouraged or practiced” (John Paul II, The Gospel of Life, n.8).
