GUIDING LIGHT ST. MARY MYSTICAL ROSE

We the faithful of St. Mary Mystical Rose Parish are a Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Detroit. We serve God through His Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, with the empowerment and the

strength of the Holy Spirit: to celebrate the Holy Sacraments and Worship, Christian Service and Faith Education, to evangelize and practice our faith in active stewardship--with the faith, spirit

and humility of Mary, the Rose of God and our Patron Saint.

November 20, 2016– Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ

Our Lord Jesus Christ, KING OF THE UNIVERSE… This Sunday we are celebrating the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus

Christ the King of the Universe. Just as in Hebron from the

First Reading of 2 Samuel, verse 5, David is hailed as king of

all the tribes of Israel, so as Jesus, is anointed King on the wood

of the His cross— not a sign of defeat but of a victory to the

end.

Through Jesus Cross we have passed from darkness into the

Kingdom of light!

So there is a sound of rejoicing not of despair. For our Lord

Jesus has made us fit into sharing in the inheritance of the holy

ones. As St. Paul in the Second Reading states in his letter to

the Collosians’ community and each and everyone of us, that

this Jesus delivered ‘us’ from the power of darkness and wel-

comed us into His Kingdom of light.

Our Lord emptied Himself to accomplish His work of salvation

by winning forgiveness of our sins and show us the path to eter-

nal life. He is the image of the invisible God, the head of the

Church, the beginning (Alpha) and the end (Omega), in Jesus

all things might be preeminent. Therefore, Jesus’ blood has

purchased and won for us the ultimate victory of life in Him

forever.

As we end this Year of Mercy, we begin the Year of Grace with

a positive outlook. As the holy Gospel according to Luke re-

marks for us, Jesus’ taught from His cross and acknowledged

the thief for his confession. So we too, should recognize our

own sins, repent, and beg Jesus to “remember” us in His King-

dom.

Let us be the thief whose stunning confession of faith is the role

model for us all. We should always acknowledge our failures,

recognized Jesus, confessed our sins, repented and asked for-

giveness from the Holy Sacrament of Reconciliation or Confes-

sion. Actually, as the repented thief in the holy Gospel of Luke,

called on the holy name of Jesus, we too sinners, should ap-

proach Jesus our King with confidence in the Sacrament, and

start our journey of faith afresh and anew by following in His

footsteps. We pray that Jesus our King continue to bless us in

our pilgrim journey! Amen.

ADVENT—CHRISTMAS—NEW YEAR LITURGIES Our Liturgies is set for the Advent Season, Christmas, and the

New Year. Please, pen in to your calendar our Mass, Recon-

ciliation Services, and New Year’s services.

As we are looking forward for the high celebration of our

Christian faith in the birth of our Savior, let us prepare our

hearts and soul to receive Jesus with joy and gladness.

We’re following Pope Francis’ directive to “Go and

Make a Loud Noise for the Lord”

From the Faith Formation Team

This week we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King of the Uni-

verse. May we always act with reverence to our God and King!

Some Reminders:

No class on November 22 or 24 for Thanksgiving break. Regular

classes resume November 29.

Faith Formation challenge – During the Month of November we are asking each faith formation child to donate one personal care item – shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, tooth brush or tooth paste or even toilet paper for our St. Mary Mystical Rose Food Pantry. A special surprise is planned for the class(es) that

have 100% participation.

Also in Advent we will be having a can and bottle drive to send the gift of a farm animal to a family in need through our missionary partner Food for the Poor. Please help your child to earn the privi-lege of returning $2-$3 of bottles and bring in the money for the return starting November 29. All parishioners are welcome to participate, we will have a box for returnables and a jar for loose change in the lower narthex starting November 28. We can do

great things through small acts of kindness.

Please join the Confirmandi as they host a Pancake Breakfast fund raiser on December 4th after the 9:30 Mass. Let us serve you as a way to help defer the cost of our Subiaco retreat. Free

will donations will be gratefully accepted.

PARISH ADVENT WREATH—Families and parish groups are invited to light our Advent wreath at the beginning of each week-

end Mass. Sign-up sheet is in the lower narthex.

Praying that you will all be richly blessed by our Lord and King!

Denise/Coordinator of Religious Education

What is a “Confirmand” or “Confirmandi”? A 'confirmand' is a person who is a candidate for Confirmation. 'Confirmandi' is the plural form of that word. Our preparation at SMMR is usually a two year process for 7th & 8th grade students
