eat the good things of the land.

The SAINT
OF THE
MONTH in
December is
St. Lucy.
St. Lucy’s Feast
Day is December 13th.
This morning the children learned
about Santa Lucia, the roman saint
who was martyred as a very young
woman when she refused to marry a
non-Christian. She is often known
for her devotion to serving the poor
as well as for her beautiful eyes. In
honor of celebrating St. Lucy,
Catechist
Evelyn Novak
made
homemade
saffron ice
cream and parent Mary Hritz made
Santa Lucia cookies for the
children.
Then the kids
got to re-
enact the
popular
Swedish Christmastime tradition of
having a girl dressed up as if the
teenage Saint Lucy. Wearing a
white gown and crowned with a
wreath and
candles, the girl
then serves her
family members
and/or others a
special
breakfast.
