Today we celebrate the last of the Christmas feasts, the Feast of the Baptism of the
Lord. It is really a continuation of our Epiphany celebration, which was last weekend.
Most of you have probably already taken down your Christmas decorations and I
imagine the trees are getting pretty dry if they are still up. This is our last opportunity
to sing the Christmas songs.
In today's Gospel, we hear John the Baptist contrast his baptism of repentance with
the baptism that Jesus will inaugurate. If you recall in Advent, we heard John the Baptist say that he
was baptizing with water, but that the one who is to come will baptize with the Holy Spirit. John's
baptism was not yet a Christian baptism; it was a preparation for the Christian Baptism which we
celebrate today, and through which sins are forgiven and the gift of the Holy Spirit is received. In
accepting John's baptism, Jesus, though sinless, united himself with all sinners.
The baptism of Jesus is considered an important manifestation (an epiphany) of God in the person
of Jesus. Jesus' baptism inaugurates his mission. Mark's Gospel moves quickly from the report of
Jesus' baptism to Jesus' temptations in the desert to his ministry in Galilee after John's arrest. The
end of the ministry of John the Baptist is the beginning of Jesus' ministry. In an analogous way, our
Baptism inaugurates our mission as Christians.
Surprisingly, on this the last day of the Christmas season, the Gospel does not tell a story from Jesus'
childhood. Instead, the Gospel reveals Jesus' relationship to God: the Son of Mary and Joseph who is
also God's own Son. We believe that through Baptism we are also made children of God.
Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam,
Fr. Greg

Best Practices for Attending and Participating in Mass Masks are required to enter the church. Please wear your mask over
your nose and mouth at all times. If you cannot wear a mask for any
reason, you will be seated in the chapel. We ask that you come forward
to the door to receive communion. NEW UPDATE: There will now be
slots on the sign up for chapel seats. If you have a medical or be-
havioral condition or disability, you and your family should sign up
for those slots. This will ensure we do not exceed our maximum oc-
cupancy in the chapel.
Ushers will show you to your seat at Mass. You will not be able to select
your seat at this time.
Socialization and conversations with others can occur in the parking lot
or sidewalk as long as mask-wearing and social distancing are ob-
served. Please avoid stopping and congregating at the entrance doors
of the church.
If you are feeling unwell or taking care of a family member who is sick,
please take the necessary safety precautions and stay at home.
Encourage family members and friends who cannot attend Mass in-
person to watch our livestreams on Facebook, the website or
YouTube! Thank you for your respectful cooperation!
Blood Drive Update The blood drive was a huge success
thanks to all of you! We collected 91
units of blood surpassing our goal of
48 units! This will impact up to 273 lives. Thank you to everyone who
helped make this happen and gave blood during a critical time!
Calendars for the new year are available at the front doors of the
church next to the drop box! If you did not receive one, please
feel free to stop by and take one for you and your family!

Prayer to St. Joseph As declared by Pope Francis in December 2020, this year, 2021, is the Year of St. Joseph! At the end of each Mass, we
will recite the following prayer in lieu of the St. Michael prayer. This prayer can be found in the worship aids and on the
worship aid page on our website. We will also have prayer cards available in the Gathering Space before Mass. We en-
courage you to take one and keep it in your wallet or purse. Please do not leave the cards in the pews after Mass.
Thank you!
Blessed Joseph, husband of Mary, be with us this day.
You protected and cherished the Virgin; loving the Child Jesus as your Son,
you rescued Him from the danger of death. Defend the Church,
the household of God, purchased by the Blood of Christ.
Guardian of the Holy Family,
be with us in our trials. May your prayers obtain for us the strength to flee from error
and wrestle with the powers of corruption so that in life we may grow in holiness
and in death rejoice in the crown of victory.
Amen.

Feast of the Baptism of our Lord Mark 1: 7 - 11 All are welcome
Then Peter began to speak to them: “I truly understand that God knows no partiality, but in every nation any-
one who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.” (Acts 10:34-35)
Living the Word: All 4 Gospels include the baptism of Jesus, showing us the importance of this event and be-
ginning of his ministry. Jesus’ baptism becomes the model of a sacrament of initiation, in which we are all wel-
comed in the Church.
Share with your child memories/pictures/video/articles from their baptism - and perhaps even your
own! Who was there celebrating with you? Talk about how you felt on their baptismal day? Talk about the
significance of holy water, of sacred oils, of the white baptismal garment. Make a list of everyone’s baptismal
day and make sure to add them to the family calendar to celebrate the day they came into the Catholic
Church!
Questions of the Week:
Child: How can you help others feel part of your class’s or group’s games and activities?
Adult:: To whom have you been guilty of showing partiality? What can you do to correct that?
Fun Facts for Catholic Kids: January 13th is the feast of St. Hilary, Bishop and Doctor
of the Church! This saint was famous for his preaching and writings who defended the
teachings of the Church against those “who closed their ears to the truth”. Do you ever
‘close your ear’ so you won’t hear what you don’t want to hear? Open your ears today
and listen------listen to the Word of God at Mass, and learn!

Walking with Purpose: Women’s Bible
Study Walking with Purpose is a weekly women’s bible study that
aims to foster a deeper relationship with Christ through
fellowship and group discussion. Currently, we are learning
about women of the Old Testament in “Discovering our
Dignity.” We read about an important woman of the Old
Testament and apply similar trials and challenges they had
to the ones we face in our daily lives today. Through our
discussions, we always come back to the truth of God’s
deep desire to live in our hearts and know us more deeply.
We invite women of all ages and walks of life to join us
every Thursday from 9:30am-11am on Zoom. Childcare
services will be provided when we are able to meet in-
person again.
Please contact Susan DiParisi ([email protected])
if you’d like to join this bible study. For more information,

Respect Life Ministry: Everyone's
Responsibility In the New Year, hopefully the following words from Saint
Pope John Paul II will motivate each of us to act in some
way on behalf of the weakest and most defenseless in our
society.
"No single person or group has a monopoly on the de-
fense and promotion of life. These are everyone's task
and responsibility...the challenge facing us is an ardu-
ous one: only the concerted efforts of all those who
believe in the value of life can prevent a setback of un-
foreseeable consequences for civilization."
- Pope John Paul II, Encyclical Letter, The Gospel of Life,
No. 91 (1995).
Let us respond positively to this great Saint's plea.
