Prep Newsletter Friday
4th December 2015
Dear Parents and Friends,
tf
Your daughter’s end of term report will
be available via your parent portal at
approximately 2pm on Wednesday 16th
December. Please would you try signing
in to your parent portal next week and if
there are any issues please would you
contact the School’s IT department. We
will not be sending paper copies.
We are fast approaching
the end of this term and
school is increasingly
busy with a variety of
end of term activities.
This week the Lower
Prep have been
polishing their Nativity in
readiness for next
week’s performance; our
Year 5 and 6 Netball
team had a match on
Monday; the Year 2 and 3 ballerinas took their exam yesterday and this
morning M:Tech demonstrated how we can compose music and layer the
sounds using a computer and a piano keyboard. The end of next week is
even busier - please see below for further details and the calendar on
page 6.
Netball Match Report by Katie, Year 6
On Monday30th
November, the St. Margaret’s netball team had a
netball match. It was against Ashford school. We played 3 matches.
All of the Year 5’s played really well and have improved. However
they did not manage to score any goals. Ashfield didn’t manage to
score any goals so the score was 0-0.
The Year 6s played the 2nd
match putting in a lot of effort.
Unfortunately we only managed to score 2 goals. The score at the
end of the game was 4-2.
Everyone played exceptionally well in the 3rd
match, managing to
score lots of goals. We won 6-1. I have collected some comments
from the girls who played in the match.
Suzie: “I think everyone played really well and did their best and even
though there was a boy in the other team we did not notice he was
there.”
Sienna: “It was really fun to play and I enjoyed my positon as
Centre.”
Arabella: “It was a very fair match and everyone followed the rules”
Collection at the end of the day If your daughter is taking part in an after
school activity please would you collect her promptly from the venue. If
your daughter is in Reception or Year 1 and has Ballet lessons please
would you collect her from the Ballet
Studio. If you are late collecting we
will take her over to join the After
School Club, as it is not fair for her to
be waiting for you during the next
Ballet lesson, or fair on the Ballet
teacher to supervise her and teach.
For all other activities, if you are late
collecting, your daughter will stay
with the activity teacher (or be taken
to the After School Club if you are
very late).
Next week
Lower Prep Nativity - ‘Christmas
Rapped Up’ Thank you to those of you who
have booked your seats.
Parking Please would you park in the
Sports Centre car park and after collecting
your daughter please leave promptly as
Thursday is a very busy day for the car park.
As you can appreciate the safety of all of our
pupils is paramount.
Collection after the Nativity At the end of the Nativity the children will
return to their classroom to change out of their costume. In the meantime
parents are invited to remain in the Senior School Hall to take
refreshments until 15:15 when you may then collect your daughter from
the Lower Prep. For safety reasons, we will only release the children from
the Lower Prep. Ballet for Year 1 will take place as usual. If your daughter
is not going to attend Ballet after the Nativity please would you let the
Ballet teacher know in advance. The After School Club will also run as
usual.
Christingle Service Next Friday all of the Preparatory School will be celebrating Christingle in the Chapel.
This is a very special service, learning
more about the meaning of Christmas.
All the children will leave the service
with a Christingle orange. The orange
symbolises the world, the red ribbon
represents the blood shed as Jesus
gave his life for us, the cocktail sticks
are the four corners of the world with the dried fruit on them being the goodness that God’s word brings to us
all.
Year 2 visit to Kestrel Grove
After the Christingle Service Year 2 will be visiting a local nursing home
to entertain the residents by singing songs and delivering gifts from the
School. This has been a tradition for many, many years and reinforces
to the children that Christmas is a time for giving to others.
Year 3 - 8 Christmas Market In October the Upper Prep had an
enterprise day when they designed and made Christmas decorations and
gifts. Next Friday, during their lunchtime, they will be selling these to all
pupils in Years 3 - 8 at an in-school Christmas Market, an event created
by the children, for the children. They will also have the opportunity to
buy gifts, play specially designed games, enjoy the bouncy slide and
have their hair braided, hands hennaed and their nails painted. Therefore,
if your daughter is in Year 3 - 6 please could she bring in a MAXIMUM of
£5 in a NAMED PURSE and a bag to carry her goodies. All money raised
will go to the House charities:

Reception
Reception have been busy creating this wonderful display. The girls have produced some fantastic writing, just look at their wonderful handwriting! They have also created some stunning wintery artwork, well done girls!
Year 1
Year 1 have been practising counting in 2s,
5s and 10s, and because our topic is Toys,
the girls decided they would like to make
their very own snakes and ladders boards
that they could play with - well done girls!
f
Year 2 were
transported
back to 1666
and wrote
diary entries
or comic
strips from
the first day of
the Great Fire
of London.
Year 2
Year 3
With the beginning
of December now
here Year 3 girls
have begun to feel
like Christmas
elves.
The classroom is
decorated,
stockings are being
sewn and Christmas
books have been
started. It feels
exciting!
Lots of work is
being done too.....
Year 4
The heat was
rising during
Year 4’s Science
lessons this
week as they
learnt how to use
a thermometer to
take accurate
readings of hot
water. They all
worked very
carefully and
luckily there were
no spillages!
They have learnt
a little bit about
the history of
thermometers
and how they
have changed
over the years, I
wonder how
many households
still have a
mercury
thermometer in
their bathroom
cupboard?
Year 5
Year 5 have been putting
the finishing touches to the
Victorian rooms they have
been making.
They have designed
wallpaper, created a
Victorian tiled floor and
used their sewing skills to
make a rug for the floor.
Lots of the girls have
brought furniture to
complete the rooms. Here
are a selection but they all
look amazing.
In Year 6 as part of our PSHE studies, we have been discussing
various influences on the choices we make with regard to
lifestyle. Over the past few weeks we have been examining the
role of the media, exploring how companies manipulate facts to
market products and how pictures may not always be how they
seem. A recently made Nutella advert was deemed misleading
due to the way in which facts were presented. A video clip about
airbrushing left the girls were quite stunned by the effects. Here
are some of their thoughts:
Year 6
I think it is offensive to
airbrush people who are
already beautiful. A little
make-up is fine but they also
change the length of their
necks and legs!...Arabella
I feel betrayed and fooled because the
Nutella advert told us there was a
whole jug of milk and 52 hazelnuts,
which is true but that is in a whole jar!
…..Aryana
We are being lied to by big brands
when they publish pictures which have
been airbrushed!...Anjali
I feel like I wouldn’t want to buy their
products after watching their videos. It
is outrageous that they should change
someone like that!...Rebecca
I feel that airbrushing is
disgraceful because they are
showing children, teenagers and
young adults that image of what
a person looks like, and it isn’t
real…..Camille
I was annoyed by the Nutella advertisement
because they didn’t explain all the
information. They tried to say it was healthy
but have not mentioned the unhealthy
ingredients….Mia
With the Nutella advert
I feel angry now that
they say it has less
sugar and is
healthy….Amisha
