From the Desk of Father Raaser Well, we made it through January! February is a short month and before you know it, it will be summer! Talking about summer, we are working on getting our new air conditioner for the Church. I will keep you posted on the process. I also want to thank you for your generosity in the Christmas collection. I am humbled by your generosity. The final number is $75,500.89. I would like to welcome to our Noonday Mass, the Lourdes Kids of Rockland County and the pilgrims that will go to Lourdes, France this Easter. The Lourdes Kids of Rockland County do an outstanding service of love. They provide an annual Easter Week pilgrimage for young people with special physical and developmental needs to visit the shrine at Our Lady of Lourdes at no cost to them. This has been happening since the 1950's in Great Britain, Ireland, Eastern Europe, the West Indies, and since 1998 in the USA; and since 2014, in Rockland. The Volunteers come from all walks of life: medical staff, priests, professionals, teachers, retirees, homemakers, college students, etc. They are very carefully screened and trained and know that their number one goal is the safety of the "Pilgrims" and also to have fun. During the eventful week there's a well-planned balance of social, spiritual and cultural activities--tours, Masses, day trips, songs, games, a theme party, processions and lots of opportunities to meet others from around the world. 5,000+ people from Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, the West Indies, Croatia, Romania and the U.S. are part of the pilgrimage. Since its inception about 200 young people with special needs have traveled to Lourdes from the tri-state area. Our parish has been so generous over the years. Thank you. Finally, there are 10 days before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Until the Church’s calendar reform of 1969, there was a season of “Fore-Lent.” The three weeks prior to Ash Wednesday, the Church prepared the people for the Lenten Fast. Those who are of a certain age remember there were three Sundays with Latin names that no one could pronounce, ready: Septuagesima, Latin for seventieth day before Easter, Sexagesima (“sixtieth”), and Quinquagesima (“fiftieth”). The season of Lent in Latin is called Quadragesima, or, literally, “Fortieth” day before Easter. In practical terms, fore-Lent gives us a change to ease into our Lenten discipline. This is the time we begin to think about what we going to do during Lent well before Lent and not the day after Ash Wednesday. That way, when Ash Wednesday arrives, we are ready. In the bulletin is the schedule of Lenten Practices here at St. Margaret.

Readings for Next Sunday

SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46 The Lord tells Moses and Aaron that anyone bearing the sore of leprosy must first be seen by Aaron or one of the other priests, and that as long as the sore is upon him, “He shall dwell apart, making his abode outside the camp.”

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:31—11:1 Paul instructs the Corinthians to do everything for the glory of God, to avoid offending others, and to be imitators of Christ.

Gospel: Mark 1:40-45 Jesus takes pity on a leper and cures him of his disease with a warning not to say but to show himself to the priest and make an offering. Instead of remaining silent, the leper greatly publicized the healing, making it impossible for Jesus to enter the town openly.

THE GOOD NEWS FROM YOUR PREP * * * * * Prayer to Saint Anthony

Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain for me (request). O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours.
