The Pastor’s Page
This weekend is one of the most special days in the life of a parish … it’s First Communion! We all share the joy of these 41 boys and girls who, for the first time,
receive the Holy Eucharist. It should be a day for rejoicing … and indeed it is!
How well I remember going to Loring’s Studio to have that First Communion picture! The picture has a sepia color to it, the crucifix on the wall, and me kneeling in a white suit on a Church kneeler! We older folk have the picture, but you’ll never see it! These little ones are just adorable, innocent, and excited to finally be able to do what adults do…receive the Body and Blood of Jesus in Holy Communion.
Thanks are in order for Ms. Jessica Walters, our Confirmation candidate assistants, and parents who have prepared our children for this important day. We, family and parish, teach our little ones in the ways of faith. I also want to thank those parents who make a real effort to bring their children weekly to Church. You’d be surprised how much your children want to come to Mass more regularly. Don’t disappoint them … make it a priority.
The Church commemorates Saturday, May 13, the 100th Anniversary of the First Apparition of Our Lady in Fatima, Portugal. Pilgrims from around the world will be going to this village to attend the canonization of Blessed Jacinta and Blessed Francisco Marto by Pope Francis. The Catholic world celebrates this joyous occasion. Our First Communion class will crown Our Lady of Fatima at the 10 a.m. Mass this Sunday the day after First Communion. Our Lady, Mother of the Church, pray for us!
