Fr. Stan’s Utterances Page 2 Palm Sunday is here. We remember how Jesus entered into Jerusalem triumphantly this day as a king who would return from a victorious battle. However, Jesus did not win the battle yet. He will enter into soon beginning Holy Thursday night and Good Friday. Besides getting our palms today and going back home as usual, this week is the most holy week for us Catholics and Christians. We should do something very special this week. I invite everyone, and please someone with you too, to fill all of our Holy Week services and be here for Holy Thursday Mass at 7 P.M., Good Friday Commemoration at 7 P.M., Holy Saturday Vigil Mass at 7 P.M. and the Easter Sunday Masses at 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30 A.M. What will we do this Good Friday for Jesus who did all for us by allowing all the outrage and extreme

suffering that he endured for our sins? We have a lifetime to thank Jesus for all He has done for us. A plethora of people always reminded me that when they were growing up as children in their household, they would remember going to Holy Thursday Mass and visiting at least seven churches that evening to spend with our Lord, some time in adoration until Midnight. It is unfortunate, and I mean really unfortunate, that this great and lengthy tradition is dying and near its final legs. Why? Are we the last generation of practicing Catholics today? Everyone is invited to our parish for adoration and to our local parishes to keep our beautiful Catholic traditions alive with devotion and zeal.

Secondly, many people have informed me, in my priestly ministry, remembering how nothing was allowed to do be done in their homes on Good Friday. Mom would not allow you to listen to the radio or watch television all day to offer it up as a sacrifice for all that Jesus offered up for us. Sadly, this tradition is almost dead too. I gently request that all of my parishioners to do something special for Jesus this Good Friday? When you are at home, kindly turn the television off that day. Jesus has suffered and died. We do this by fasting to recall what Jesus has done for us. May we do more for Jesus? When our loved ones died, did we watch television all day in the funeral home? Did we stay at home to watch sports and programs? Did we listen to music all day, especially to our favorite groups? If we had utmost respect for our loved ones, should we do more for Jesus, who is God, this Good Friday? Please, no television, smart phones, You Tube, video gaming and listening to typical radio programs on Good Friday! If this is hard to do, then we should question if the scourging, crowning of thorns, spitting, beard pulling, carrying the cross, and be nailed and hanging on a tree counting all of the bones in agony was easier? Yet, we all want to go to Heaven and not try to offer up our lives as sacr ifice to God, to grow in holiness, for all that God has done for us? We cannot be encouraged by the error of minimalism that is so prevalent in our culture today.

Large Passover crowds surrounded Jesus, shouting "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" (Matthew 21:9) By that time, the uproar was spreading through the entire city. Many of the Galilean disciples had earlier seen Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead. Undoubtedly, they were spreading the news of that astonishing miracle. The Pharisees, who were jealous of Jesus and afraid of the Romans and said: "'Teacher, rebuke your disci-ples.' He answered, 'I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.'" (Luke 19:39-40).

By riding into Jerusalem on the colt of a donkey, Jesus fulfilled an ancient prophecy in Zechariah 9:9: "Exult greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem! Behold: your king is coming to you, a just savior is he, humble, and rid-ing on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."

Throwing cloaks in the path of someone was an act of homage and submission. The people were recognizing Jesus as the promised Messiah.

The people's cries of 'Hosanna' came from Psalm 118:25-26. Hosanna means "save now." Despite what Jesus had foretold about His mission, the people were looking for a military Messiah who would overthrow the Romans and restore Israel's inde-pendence.

The crowds refused to see Jesus Christ as He truly was, placing their personal desires on Him instead. Who is Jesus for you? Is He someone whom you want to satisfy your selfish wants and goals, or is He Lord and Master who gave up his life to save you from your sins? When we really believe with all our heart, soul, strength and mind that Jesus is Lord and Master who gave up His life to save us from our sins, then being with Jesus Holy Thursday night at Mass, turning off the television and radio on Good Friday and being at the Good Friday Commemoration service at 7 P.M., the Holy Saturday Vigil Mass at 7 P.M. and at Easter Sunday Mass is not too much to do for Jesus who has done so much for us. As I said earlier, are we the last gen-eration of practicing Catholics today? When our loved ones died, did we watch television all day in the funeral home? Did we stay at home to watch sports and programs? Did we listen to music all day, especially to our favorite groups? If we had utmost respect for our loved ones, should we do more the same for Jesus on this day, Good Friday?

I hope to see our church packed all throughout Holy Week. It is our time to be alive and evangelize the good news

of our salvation and keep our Catholic traditions alive! The world views Holy Week as any other work week, how will we be different?

School News!!

A school is only as great as the people who work together for the good of the students. Here at St. Louis de Montfort, we are extremely lucky to have wonderful teachers, staff and parents who work together for our students. Recently, we had a successful all school dance organized by our parents and a great Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. Our Family School Association will be meeting to plan for events occurring the last two months of school. I

cannot say thank you enough to all of you who work to make St. Louis de Montfort a great place to be.

The 4th grade was visited by Hailey Wierzgac's mom who helped them with a craft project celebrating Easter. Thank you to Mrs. Wierzgac for volunteering your time. I know the students really appreciate it!

PARISH PEACE GARDEN

Spring is around the corner. The tulips and daffodils are peeking through, but the rest of our Peace Garden, located across from the Parish Home, needs some attention. Carol Karnoski and Phil Weiss are asking for some helping hands to assist with pruning, weeding, and planting to keep this garden, dedicated for Fr. Bill Quinn, beautiful. Once the garden has had its spring cleaning, an hour once or twice a month is all that’s needed. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

If you’re interested or for more information, please call Carol Karnoski at 708.599.6691.
