St. Louis de Mon ort Mission Statement We are called to be and to become a loving family centered in Jesus. We acknowledge and accept that each of us is unique and has special gi s from the Holy Spirit. We wish to nurture, develop and share these gi s within and for the Body of Christ. Having been called by Bap sm into that Body, We celebrate our rela onship in Word, Sacrament and Family Celebra on. We are then sent to call others to Christ through whom we are and what we do. We recognize Christ’s call to be one in Him and commit ourselves to his way of life.

Fr Aidan Peter writes: My message this week is by way of be-

ing an announcement. It is with mixed emotions that I inform you of the res-ignation of Kelly McLoughlin our DRE who is taking up an appointment to be the new Coordinator of Youth Services for Santa Barbara Region of the Arch-diocese of LA. I say mixed emotions because Kelly has worked here at the parish since 2005, firstly as Youth officer and then as DRE. Furthermore Kelly has lived here in the parish since she was a teenager. So we are seeing one of our own home grown talents move on and this is always sad. However we are also very happy for Kelly that she has been able to make such a positive career move and is still working at the “chalk-face” of the Church’s Mission. This move takes effect on October 8th. No doubt we will be see-ing her in her new capacity from time to time and SLdM will continue to be her home parish with her family. So now begins the very important task of finding a new DRE. May I assure all parents of children in RE and Catechetical programs and the whole parish that we will continue to provide the very best faith for-mation experience for them. There is a strong team. I will be playing a more hands on approach until we appoint a new person so that all runs as smoothly and productively as possible. For now, please pray in thanksgiving for all Kelly has done for us and pray that the Holy Spirit moves the right person to come and join us. I will be working with the Diocese to ap-point the new DRE. God bless, Fr Aidan-Peter

WOMEN’S SILENT RETREAT October 20-22, 2017, located at the beautiful and serene grounds of Sacred Heart Retreat House in Alhambra. Retreat Master Rev. Gerard Gonda, OSB. Theme: “Streams of Grace and mercy”. Bus tickets are available from St. Louis de Montfort for $40. Reserve as soon as possible; they are first come, first served. Double room for the weekend includes food for $180.00. To register or for questions: Lori Vitiello 805-264-5606 or [email protected] ****************************************** FATIMA AND LOURDES Would you be interested in a trip to Fatima and Lourdes with other parishioners? If so, we are planning a trip in October 2018. We will have an information meeting on Thurs., September 21st at 7pm. For more information contact LeRoy at 922-5496 or Jack at 937-7773. ********************************************* ACHIEVEMENT VS FRUITFULNESS Last week a whole parish and civic community came to-gether to honor Sr. Regine Donner, because in some unique way she had influenced their lives. The teenager who had risked her life to save her mother thrived in God's sunshine in Santa Maria. How? We all have our individual answers. But an article by Fr. Richard Rol-heiser, Angelus, Sept. 13, 2017, answers the question pro-foundly. Quoting Fr. Henri Nouwen, he shows the differ-ence between achievement and fruitfulness. Fruitfulness is the long-lasting effect our achievements have on others, bringing blessings into their lives, even after our deaths. Just as with Jesus, only after our deaths will our spirit flow out more purely. I believe that is the way it is with Regine. We need to let her spirit continue to bless us. At this point it would be beneficial to visit again the read-ings we heard from Regine: "I, Regine, pray and commit to make the world a better place for all peo-ple. Remember me for Tolerance and Peace." And we have the beautiful Farewell Letter from her fami-ly in Israel: "We grew up , loving Regine through the eyes of our father, and loving people through the eyes of Regine, and knowing that there is hope for humanity." ********************************************** RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY Next Sunday, October 1, is Respect Life Sunday. The parish will celebrate it with free pro-life educational items and a homemade bake sale in the Gathering Area after all Sunday morning Masses. If you wish to provide baked goods, please call Lollie Schentrup at: 805-928-7610. ********************************************** IMMIGRATION AFFAIRS The Archdiocese of Immigration Affairs is available for those who might need help with an immigration matter. For information please contact Isaac Cuevas at: 213-637-7484 or [email protected].

This year we will offer a monthly activity called “Family night”. This event is open to all, not just Religious Education students and their families but, school families and parish families. We will have a variety of activities during the hour including prayer, family ideas for meal times, craft activity to make and take home & snacks. All ages of fam-ily members are welcome. Annual Half Marathon, Saturday, February 3rd. 8:00am for walkers and 9:00am for runners. This event is just as much for the faint of heart and the under exercised as it is for the stouthearted and the greatly exercised! The course is a great one through the vineyards without pass-ing a single gas station, and it prepares the tongue and palette with the very best spice (hunger) to go with the Knights’ barbecue of carefully marinated pork. Come and join in the fun! ********************************************** VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We are looking for volunteers to help with the parish’s digital media efforts. Specifically, we are looking for peo-ple with skills in photo editing, video editing, graphic design and/or programming. No set time commitment is necessary; the goal is to establish a pool of volunteers who can help out when available.

DID YOU KNOW? Pay attention to your surroundings to prevent child abuse. As a caring adult, you scope out potential dangers in the areas where a child may be for school, birthday parties, playdates, outings with friends, etc. Another danger to add to your list is the potential for a child to be lured away into a private area by a predator. Abuse can happen anywhere, even in the most public of places, and parents should be aware of any secluded spots that a predator might use. Avoid spaces where a predator could take action – turn on lights, check empty rooms, and patrol sleeping or playing spaces. ¿SABIA USTED? ************************************************ BETHLEHEM CHRISTIAN FAMILIES September 30th and October 1st, 2017, the Bethlehem Christian Families will be here to sell their hand carved religious articles made of olive wood. The sale of these precious articles supports their church mission which is to maintain the roots and existence of the Christian Families struggling to remain in Bethlehem. At least ninety percent of the funds raised through these sales will go directly to Christians living in the Bethlehem area. The pro-ceeds will create more work for these people and help them stay in the Holy Land. Thank you for your generous support. ****************************************************** COME, LET US CELEBRATE!
