The early Christians believed that the Second Coming was near, and would be preceded by cosmic signs. We are not so sure about that. All the false prophets speak of the end as a time of gloom and doom. But Jesus spoke of it as a day of liberation and salvation for his followers. The world is not heading for catastrophe or mere ending. God has a goal for the world. That goal is the coming of Gods Kingdom in all its glory. Therefore, we should not be afraid of the Lords coming, but await it with confidence, vigilance and prayer. However, we should worry more about the end of own individual world at death, which is certain, than about the end of the whole world, which is out of our hands. Bishop Les Tomlinson will be the main celebrant at this Mass and then will bless and unveil the 150th anniversary plaque at the church. After the mass, all will gather at the parish centre where Bishop Les will bless and open St Joseph's Room, followed by lunch. If you are attending this mass it would be wonderful if you could please bring a plate to share.

SETTING OUT AGAIN

This Sunday each year the Church invites us to embark on a

great journey - the journey of the Liturgical Year.

When we start the liturgical year, we are setting out to

follow in the footsteps of Christ. In the course of the year,

the whole of his life and teaching will pass before us. We

will re-visit all the mysteries of his time on earth: from his

expectation (that is what Advent is about), to his birth, his

life, death, resurrection, ascension into heaven, and his

sending of the Holy Spirit.

In the course of the year we will relive his whole story. But

we have heard the story many times. Hence, there is a

danger that we may see it as old and stale. We must try and

see it as new and present and alive. It’s not like playing an

old video. The celebration of each feast brings back the

event in its original clarity and vitality, never allowing it to

grow cold and lifeless or fade into oblivion.

Besides, we are not spectators but actors in all of this. The

mysteries of Christ’s life are represented in such a way that

we are drawn into them, and become participants in them.

That makes it more demanding, but more enriching and

exciting too. God is not just a God of the past, but of the

present and the future.

Each year we ought to hear the Christ story better,

understand it more deeply, and make it more our own. In

hearing his story we ought to hear our own stories too. Our

stories merge with his and are illuminated by it. His story

enables us live our own story more fully and more joyfully.

Even though we’ve made the journey before, we must try to

embark on it today as if for the very first time. This Sunday

is a God-given chance to make a new beginning in our

following of Christ.

Today the reading concentrate on the second coming of

Christ and the end of the world. The reason for this is that

before we commit ourselves to a journey we need to know

the goal of the journey. So on this day the liturgy directs our

eyes towards the goal of our own journey and that of the

world, namely, the second coming of Christ.

The early Christians believed that the Second Coming was

near, and would be preceded by cosmic signs. We are not so

sure about that. All the false prophets speak of the end as a

time of gloom and doom. But Jesus spoke of it as a day of

liberation and salvation for his followers. The world is not

heading for catastrophe or mere ending. God has a goal for

the world. That goal is the coming of God’s Kingdom in all

it’s glory. Therefore, we should not be afraid of the Lord’s

coming, but await it with confidence, vigilance and prayer.

However, we should worry more about the end of own

individual world at death, which is certain, than about the

end of the whole world, which is out of our hands.

PRAYER FOR ADVENT God of Advent Hope,

Grant us above all to see That our ways are not necessarily

Your ways, that we cannot fully penetrate the

mystery of Your designs and that the very storm of power

now raging on this earth reveals Your hidden will and

Your inscrutable decision. Grant us to see Your face in the lightening of this cosmic storm,

O God of holiness, merciful to all. Grant us to seek peace where it is

truly found! In your will, O God, is our peace!

Amen.

“But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.” LUKE 21:28 We celebrate Advent each year in preparation of the birth of Jesus, His first coming, as we await his second coming. In this Advent season, use the sacrament of Reconciliation to strengthen your relationship with Jesus. It’s never too late.

BENDIGO & DIOCESAN MATTERS ST LIBORIUS SCHOOL

Dear Parents & Friends of St Liborius Primary School,

This year has flown by. On Saturday it will be the 1st of December

and then on Sunday we will have the first week of Advent. As we

are all connected to St Liborius Primary School, we all have a

connection with the wider St Liborius Parish of Eaglehawk. This

Sunday marks the first Sunday of Advent. This is a time of waiting,

a time of prayer and a time of anticipation of something bigger than

ourselves.

As a school, we want to instil in our students that Advent is a time

to be present with one another and a time to give. Not just physical

things like toys or monetary items, but give people love, joy and

opportunities to brighten up others lives.

As this Advent Season ramps up, take time to reflect on the

purpose of Christmas, the gift of Christ into our lives.

2018 Parent Satisfaction Survey

All parents who receive the newsletter via email will also receive

an invitation to complete an online survey. This sur-vey will help

us gather data as a school to aid us in our planning for 2019 and

beyond. It would be fantastic if each family could fill in this survey

and submit any feedback about St Liborius Primary School. Please

look out for this email tonight. If you have any questions regarding

this survey, please see me, Alistair Stewart, or email me

[email protected]

time with their 2019 teacher and class. This will be happening on

Tuesday morning.

End of Year Mass & Fr Antony’s farewell

Fr Antony will be leading us in his final mass on Monday 10

December, for our End of Year Mass. We will communicate more

about this event next week, but keep the time free, 6pm 10th

December, as it will be an excellent time to celebrate the great

work our students have put in during 2018, and join us in saying a

fond farewell to Father Antony.

Have a wonderful week

Yours faithfully

ROSTERS

After Carols by Candlelight, the musicians go out to relax. C, an

E-flat, and a G go into a bar. The bartender says: "Sorry, but we

don't serve minors." So the E-flat leaves, and the C and the G have an open fifth between them. After a few drinks, the fifth is diminished and the G is out flat. An F comes in and tries to augment the situation,

but is not sharp enough. … to be continued.
