Godparents must be practicing Catholics at least 16 years of age who have received the sacrament of confirmation and have a letter of good standing from the pastor of their home parish if they are not registered parishioners of St. Leo. A baptized Christian who is not Catholic may serve as a Christian witness to the baptism but not as a godparent. Sacrament of Marriage—A couple wishing to marry must contact the priest at least six months before setting the wedding date. The couple will be required to attend a marriage preparation course which will include at least one formal program such as an Engaged Encounter weekend or the Sponsor Couple Program. Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick—The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is celebrated upon request. Please notify the pastor or call the parish office if you know of anyone who might need this sacrament. Please inform the pastor or someone in the parish office if you or any of your family is in the hospital. Sacrament of Reconciliation—The sacrament of Reconciliation is available each Wednesday from 5:15pm-5:45pm, Saturday 3:15pm-3:45pm or by calling the Parish Office for an appointment. Additional times are listed in the bulletin during Lent and Advent. Sacrament of Eucharist to the Homebound—Please notify the Parish Office if you or a family member is homebound and would like to receive the Eucharist. The Ten Commandments 445. What does God prohibit by his command, “You shall not have other gods before me” (Exodus 20:2)? This commandment forbids:
Polytheism and idolatry, which divinizes creatures, power, money, or even demons.
Superstition which is a departure from the worship due to the true God and which also expresses itself in various forms of divination, magic, sorcery and spiritism.
Irreligion which is evidenced: in tempting God by word or deed; in sacrilege, which profanes sacred persons or sacred things, above all the Eucharist; and in simony, which involves the buying or selling of spiritual things.

The Young at Heart VALENTINE’S CELEBRATION is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18th. Set up will be at 11:15 AM, Mass at 12:05, Chaplet of St. Michael at 12:35 with our meal to follow in the Parish Center at 1:00 PM. Penne pasta casserole and drinks will be provided. Those who attend are asked to bring a dessert and/or a side dish appetizer.

Catholic Men’s Conference of Western Kentucky
February 15, 2020
The Catholic Men’s Conference of Western Kentucky is hosting their 9th annual conference on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the RiverPark Center in Owensboro. Men from all around the diocese are encouraged to attend. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for students. Guest speakers this year are Patrick Madrid, Bruce Sullivan and Brian Greenfield. Mass with Bishop Medley will follow the conference at St. Stephen Cathedral, 610 Locust Street, at 5 PM. GOD’S CALL
The person who has been “saved,” who has “heard the good news of salvation,” still lives in an unsaved world, a world sadly oblivious to the presence of God. Today’s readings outline how the disciple is present in the world. The outline begins with Isaiah: “Share your bread . . . shelter the oppressed . . . clothe the naked” (Isaiah 58:7). Those who hear the word of salvation are not insensitive to the urgent needs of others. Then Paul reminds his flock that he brought Christ to them not in eloquence or wisdom, but by being with them in the “weakness and fear” of their daily lives (1 Corinthians 2:3). Finally, Jesus tells his disciples to go out into the gloom and darkness of the streets of the world and let God’s light shine through their good deeds. We disciples don’t save the world. To the extent, however, that we have heard the word of God and been awakened to God’s presence, we may spread that word and bring that presence to others. ” Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

SAINT JOSEPHINE BAKHITA (c. 1869-1947)
February 8
“Save Darfur!” That cry echoes around the world and in the heart of the Church, where a child of Darfur is one of our newest saints: Josephine (her baptismal name) Bakhita (“Lucky One,” the slave-traders’ nickname). Kidnapped at nine, sold in Sudan’s slave-markets, flogged daily till covered with scars, Bakhita was finally bought by Italians and taken to Italy. There Bakhita discovered a “Master” who had himself been flogged to redeem her from slavery! “I am truly loved,” she thought, “and awaited by this Love.” Baptized, she often kissed the baptismal font, exclaiming, “Here I became a daughter of God!” For fifty years as a Daughter of Charity, Bakhita provided cheerful hospitality to all who knocked at the convent door. In her final illness, she relived slavery’s horror: “Please, loosen these chains,” she begged the nurse. “They are so heavy!” Her last words were: “Our Lady! Our Lady!” John Paul II canonized her in the Jubilee Year 2000, praising God for leading her “from abject slavery to the dignity of being your daughter and the Bride of Christ.”

Annual Lenten Fish Fry
St. Leo annual Lenten Fish Fry will begin on February 28th from
4:30-6:30 pm. The Fish Fry is a combined effort of the Knights of
Columbus, who prepare and cook the food, and the parishioners of
St. Leo who serve, make desserts, clean up, etc. There is a sign-up
sheet in the gathering space for you to schedule a time to help
during the six Fridays of Lent. We need parishioners to bring
desserts. If your last name begins with the letters A-D, please
bring a dessert on February 28; letters E-I on March 6; letters J-M
on March 13; Letters N-Q on March 20; Letters R-T on March 27;
letters U-Z on April 3. If you love to bake and want to bring a
dessert every week, we can use them! We need everyone to come
support our Fish Fry. Please bring you family and friends! Cost will
remain the same: $10.00 adults, $5.00 children under 12. Includes
fried or baked fish, hush puppies, fries or baked potato, white
beans, cole slaw, dessert, and drink.

Sacrament of Baptism—The sacrament of baptism for infants is administered on the 3rd weekend of the month. Parents should contact the parish office to set up an appointment for a baptism preparation class at least 1 month prior to the baptism. Parents must be registered parishioners or have a letter from their home parish with permission for the baptism to take place at a different church. Godparents must be practicing Catholics at least 16 years of age who have received the sacrament of confirmation and have a letter of good standing from the pastor of their home parish if they are not registered parishioners of St. Leo. A baptized Christian who is not Catholic may serve as a Christian witness to the baptism but not as a godparent. Sacrament of Marriage—A couple wishing to marry must contact the priest at least six months before setting the wedding date. The couple will be required to attend a marriage preparation course which will include at least one formal program such as an Engaged Encounter weekend or the Sponsor Couple Program. Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick—The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is celebrated upon request. Please notify the pastor or call the parish office if you know of anyone who might need this sacrament. Please inform the pastor or someone in the parish office if you or any of your family is in the hospital. Sacrament of Reconciliation—The sacrament of Reconciliation is available each Wednesday from 5:15pm-5:45pm, Saturday 3:15pm-3:45pm or by calling the Parish Office for an appointment. Additional times are listed in the bulletin during Lent and Advent. Sacrament of Eucharist to the Homebound—Please notify the Parish Office if you or a family member is homebound and would like to receive the Eucharist. Parish Hall or Classroom Use—Use of the Parish Hall or classrooms for all meetings must be cleared through the Parish Office. All non-parish events such as showers, rehearsal dinners, wedding/anniversary receptions must be reserved 3 weeks before the event. The Diocese requires the purchase of an insurance policy covering the non-parish events.

The Ten Commandments 445. What does God prohibit by his command, “You shall not have other gods before me” (Exodus 20:2)? This commandment forbids:
Polytheism and idolatry, which divinizes creatures, power, money, or even demons.
Superstition which is a departure from the worship due to the true God and which also expresses itself in various forms of divination, magic, sorcery and spiritism.

The Young at Heart VALENTINE’S CELEBRATION is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18th. Set up will be at 11:15 AM, Mass at 12:05, Chaplet of St. Michael at 12:35 with our meal to follow in the Parish Center at 1:00 PM. Penne pasta casserole and drinks will be provided. Those who attend are asked to bring a dessert and/or a side dish appetizer.

Catholic Men’s Conference of Western Kentucky

The Catholic Men’s Conference of Western Kentucky is hosting their 9th annual conference on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the RiverPark Center in Owensboro. Men from all around the diocese are encouraged to attend. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for students. Guest speakers this year are Patrick Madrid, Bruce Sullivan and Brian Greenfield. Mass with Bishop Medley will follow the conference at St. Stephen Cathedral, 610 Locust Street, at 5 PM. GOD’S CALL
The person who has been “saved,” who has “heard the good news of salvation,” still lives in an unsaved world, a world sadly oblivious to the presence of God. Today’s readings outline how the disciple is present in the world. The outline begins with Isaiah: “Share your bread . . . shelter the oppressed . . . clothe the naked” (Isaiah 58:7). Those who hear the word of salvation are not insensitive to the urgent needs of others. Then Paul reminds his flock that he brought Christ to them not in eloquence or wisdom, but by being with them in the “weakness and fear” of their daily lives (1 Corinthians 2:3). Finally, Jesus tells his disciples to go out into the gloom and darkness of the streets of the world and let God’s light shine through their good deeds. We disciples don’t save the world. To the extent, however, that we have heard the word of God and been awakened to God’s presence, we may spread that word and bring that presence to others. ” Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

SAINT JOSEPHINE BAKHITA (c. 1869-1947)
February 8
“Save Darfur!” That cry echoes around the world and in the heart of the Church, where a child of Darfur is one of our newest saints: Josephine (her baptismal name) Bakhita (“Lucky One,” the slave-traders’ nickname). Kidnapped at nine, sold in Sudan’s slave-markets, flogged daily till covered with scars, Bakhita was finally bought by Italians and taken to Italy. There Bakhita discovered a “Master” who had himself been flogged to redeem her from slavery! “I am truly loved,” she thought, “and awaited by this Love.” Baptized, she often kissed the baptismal font, exclaiming, “Here I became a daughter of God!” For fifty years as a Daughter of Charity, Bakhita provided cheerful hospitality to all who knocked at the convent door. In her final illness, she relived slavery’s horror: “Please, loosen these chains,” she begged the nurse. “They are so heavy!” Her last words were: “Our Lady! Our Lady!” John Paul II canonized her in the Jubilee Year 2000, praising God for leading her “from abject slavery to the dignity of being your daughter and the Bride of Christ.”

Annual Lenten Fish Fry
St. Leo annual Lenten Fish Fry will begin on February 28th from
4:30-6:30 pm. The Fish Fry is a combined effort of the Knights of
Columbus, who prepare and cook the food, and the parishioners of
St. Leo who serve, make desserts, clean up, etc. There is a sign-up
sheet in the gathering space for you to schedule a time to help
during the six Fridays of Lent. We need parishioners to bring
desserts. If your last name begins with the letters A-D, please
bring a dessert on February 28; letters E-I on March 6; letters J-M
on March 13; Letters N-Q on March 20; Letters R-T on March 27;
letters U-Z on April 3. If you love to bake and want to bring a
dessert every week, we can use them! We need everyone to come
support our Fish Fry. Please bring you family and friends! Cost will
remain the same: $10.00 adults, $5.00 children under 12. Includes
fried or baked fish, hush puppies, fries or baked potato, white
beans, cole slaw, dessert, and drink.
