In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness

By: Deacon Jim Shipman

Who loves you the most? Who do you love the most? As human be-ings we spend our lives searching for answers to those two questions. Children gravitate to loving their parents because they care for them. When we start to mature we search for loving relationships. That desire of a relationship often leads us to someone of the oppo-site sex and to marriage. As our love grows deeper in a relation-ship, we learn to love the other person more than ourselves. That is so true when we have children. This learning to love the person more than ourselves is God’s plan to teach us what LOVE is all about.

Written by the Apostle John in 1 John 4:7, “Love is of God; every-one who loves is begotten by God and knows God.”

The answer to those two simple questions is God. Jesus Christ loves us more than we can possible imagine and more than any human relationship. We must love Him more than ourselves. Once we begin to understand that LOVE is from GOD, then we learn to love as He loves us.

Our selfish humanity gets in the way of love, but if our love for someone is sincere, we will give ourselves completely to that per-son. Our Gospel today teaches some of the principles in loving like God. Jesus teaches that we must Love Him more than anyone else if we are to follow Him. He also tells us that if we follow Him, we can expect to bear a cross, but that cross is filled with Graces. Once we give ourselves completely to Our Lord we truly learn Love One Another and live in complete hap-piness.

Congratulations! Please pray for the following children who are

receiving the sacrament of First Eucharist this weekend.

Pray the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy in the St. Leo Holy Family Garden on Thursdays at 6:30pm

The Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be prayed in the Holy Family Garden at 6:30pm on Thursdays this summer. It has been said that the rosary is one of the most powerful prayers you may ever pray. Pope Paul VI said when we pray the rosary, we can experience the key moments of the Gospel, especially when meditating on the mysteries. St. Dominic encouraged Catholics to gather in small groups to pray the ro-sary.

In Loving Memory Please remember in your prayers those who have been born into eternal life, especially Jacques Bluett, husband of Claire Williams and son-in-law of Jeanie Williams.

+ + + May their souls and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

~ Praying For Vocations ~ Parents, do you encourage your children to develop their talents and gifts? Do you encourage your children to think of Church ministry as a possible life choice? The loving environment of a family draws forth an individual’s greatest talents and gifts. We’ve come to realize that creating an atmos-phere in which children can hear the Lord’s call is one of the most signifi-cant responsibilities resting on our shoulders as parents. Our own lives must reflect the presence of God, His Word, and the love He offers His people.
