Father Mark Wagner Dear Parishioners, In today’s first reading the Holy Spirit comes down on men whom Moses had specially chosen to be on a list of “elders” who would help him lead the People of God (cf. At the same time there were two other men who also received the spirit and prophesized, even though they were not there with Moses but back in the camp. Moses says that he wishes that all of the people would receive the Spirit and prophesy: “Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets! Would that the Lord might bestow his spirit on them all.” In this story we see both that God does anoint special leaders for His people, but that ultimately the goal is that everyone would receive the same Holy Spirit. In the Catholic Church we have special leaders (the word “priest” comes from the ancient word for “elder”), but we also know that the lay people have a special role. We are all called to be “stewards” of God’s gifts for the good of the people (cf. 1Cor. 4:1). “Bestow his spirit on them all” On Wednesday, October 7, we will honor Our Lady and the month of the rosary with an International Rosary after 5:45pm Mass. The Cherubim Choir will provide an “Ave Maria” prelude.

ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH

From the Pastor’s Laptop

We have a perfect example of this in the fact that today Pope Francis is celebrating a Mass for families at the “World Meeting of Families” in Philadelphia. He is our anointed leader, but he is encouraging families to realize that they have an important mission in society.

Today is also the day when a new priest will begin to celebrate our Spanish Mass on Sundays here at St. Joseph’s. Father Ernesto Madrigal is a young priest from Hughson, who was anointed at his ordination to the priesthood two years ago! He will be living at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, but he will come several times a week to do ministry for our Spanish-speaking parishioners. In this way he will take over for Fr. Hamilton, who did the opposite: while living at St. Joseph’s, he went several times a week to help the Spanish-speakers of Our Lady of Fatima. We welcome Fr. Ernesto and we also thank Fr. Hamilton for being with us for two years. Fr. Hamilton is now in Philadelphia seeing the pope, and afterwards he will return to his diocese in Colombia. We thank God for sending us wonderful anointed leaders filled with the Spirit of God!

Father Mark Wagner Dear Parishioners, In today’s first reading

the Holy Spirit comes down on men whom Moses had specially chosen to be on a list of “elders” who would help him lead the People of God (c f . Numbers 11). Seventy of them received the same spirit that had descended upon Moses, and they all prophesized.

1Cor. 4:1).

“Bestow his spirit on them all”

On Wednesday, October 7, we will honor Our Lady and the month of the rosary with an International Rosary after

5:45pm Mass. The Cherubim Choir will provide an “Ave Maria” prelude.

Welcome everyone to the beginning of the Catechism school year! Remember to please be aware of children around

CORRESPONSABILIDAD (STEWARDSHIP)

Por: Nathan Steingrebe

Leer, Meditar, Orar y Vivir

La Libertad de Dios

Joel Ramirez
