Coincidence? I think not. God, through his Son, was saying that there was now an ultimate and eternal one-time replacement for all the sacrificial lambs that had been offered year after year for centuries. The Lamb of God became the blood of our salvation and the manna came down from heaven. After Pentecost, Christians began to celebrate the power of the new and final Paschal Lamb whose blood and flesh was given, not as a one-time liberation from physical slavery or to stave off physical starvation but as an eternal liberation from the slavery to sin and death and as eternal food and drink to sustain us in the deserts of this world. We have been sent to love (Ascension), but not without everything necessary for the journey. We have been filled with the Holy Presence (Pentecost), invited to be in relationship with the fullness of that presence (Trinity) and given a place at the table to partake in the eternal feast of nourishment (The Body and Blood of Christ). He is with us! God is with us as holy fire, passionate relationship and true food and drink. No more trying to merit his presence. He became flesh and blood and then sacrificed that flesh and blood so that he could be in us and we could be in him and sin and death could no longer separate us from his love. That's how much he wanted us and still wants us. At every Eucharistic meal we are not only receiving him, he is also receiving us, opening his heart to us and breathing the fire of life into us. Then everything comes full circle as we are directed to “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord and one another.” It's the never-ending circle of the New Covenant dance. The Solemnity Of The Most Holy Body And Blood Of Christ

June 17th and 18th, 2017

The New Order, Part IV: The Body and Blood of Christ

Christ died on the cross at the exact same time as the Jewish paschal lambs were being sacr i f iced in the temple . Coincidence? I think not. God, through his Son, was saying that there was now an u l t i m a t e a n d e t e r n a l o n e - t i m e replacement for all the sacrificial lambs that had been offered year after year for centuries.

Then everything comes full circle as we are directed to “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord and one another.”

It's the never-ending circle of the New Covenant dance.

From today’s Gospel: I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh. (John 6:51)Question for Adults: What does it mean for you right now to be bread for others as Jesus was?Question for Children: In what ways can Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist help you do good things for others?
