Prayer for the Fallen God our creator and sustainer, today our country brings to our memory those who have defended this nation in times of trouble. They have sacrificed their lives to protect our shores from those who would limit our freedoms or enslave us to ways that are against your will. Bring all those who have died in service to our country into your heavenly presence. We humbly call down your blessing on those still serving; grant your heavenly protection to these men and women, and open your Sacred Heart to give them peace and comfort. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Catechist’s Corner Congratulations to all graduates this weekend! I find it no coincidence that the Gospel reading from this Sunday is what it is (Matthew 28:16-20). (God always has a way of working wonders!) This passage from the Gospel of Matthew is also known as ‘The Commissioning of the Disciples.’

“The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they all saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

The first part of this passage I wish to direct your attention to is what Jesus says. We must remember that Scripture is not merely written as a historical account of happenstances, but the Bible is a timeless book that encapsulates what God wishes to speak directly to us. Therefore, when Jesus is speaking to his disciples, he is speaking directly to us. With that understanding, Jesus opens with saying, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” He then commences to command his disciples to a very hefty task with no hesitation, “Go…” he says, “and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” If we stop there, our minds may flood with worries and self-doubt. “WHOA. Wait, God… You want ME to go and make disciples of all nations? Make disciples?! But I don’t even think I’m that good of a disciple myself! And to make them of all nations?! Why can’t I just make disciples of the nations that are easy and quick to understand the teachings of Christ, not the ones that are argumentative and appear to have closed their hearts to the life you have to offer?!?!” But the passage does not end there. The passage continues and concludes the entire Gospel of Matthew with Jesus stating, “And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” God has directed both you and I to mountains, big tasks that may even seem impossible to attempt. But he does not leave us alone. No way! Instead, when we face big tasks, we must remember what he tells us at the end of this passage—that Jesus, who has stated that all power on heaven and earth has been given to him, is with us always, until the end of the age! Each one of us has all the power on heaven and earth with us, always. May we approach whatever mountains and tasks we are facing with courageous hearts and go bravely with the knowledge that Christ is always with us, no matter the circumstance.

Come for fellowship and fun with an opportunity to meet and thank the TOTUS TUUS missionaries and have dinner with our youth. All parishioners are invited to a potluck in the Parish Center on Thursday, July 12th from 6:00-7:00 pm. Please bring a dish to pass, your own table service and a drink.

Hope to see you there!

Stewardship Quote … Today’s second reading reminds

us that we are the adopted sons and daughters--the heirs--of God. We are good stewards of our inheritance when we share our faith and fulfill Our Lord’s command to “go...and make disciples of all the nations.”

Graduate Prayer Father,

I have knowledge, so will You show me now, How to use it wisely and find a way somehow To make the world I live in a little better place,

And make life with its problems a little bit easier to face. Grant me faith and courage and put purpose in my days,

And show me how to serve Thee in effective ways. So my education, my knowledge, and my skill

May find their true fulfillment as I learn to do Thy will. And may I ever be aware in everything I do,

That knowledge comes from learning, and wisdom comes from You.

Amen.
