Richard Dellos’ Message for the Easter Season: The faithful are urged to live and celebrate the whole Easter season: “Father in heaven, fifty days have celebrated the fullness of the mystery of your revealed love.” This is confirmed in the preface of the Mass for Pentecost Day: “Today you sent the Holy Spirit on those marked out to be your children by sharing the life of your only Son, and so you brought the paschal mystery to its completion.” According to the gospel of the Second Sunday of Easter (John 20:22), Jesus pours out the Holy Spirit on the apostles on the day of the Resurrection. Thus the whole of the Easter season is filled with the breath of the Spirit of the Risen One, living among his disciples. It is opportune to point out this year the presence and action of the Holy Spirit throughout the whole of this season: the joy of the Easter season flows from the “new presence of the Risen Christ, who in bestowing the Holy Spirit on his disciples, remains with them.” Remaining faithful to the tradition of East and West, only passages from the New Testament (Acts of the Apostles, Revelation and the Gospel of John) are proclaimed on the Sundays of Easter. The readings help us grow in our knowledge and understanding of the ecclesial and sacramental value of the Easter celebrations, especially the Sacraments of Initiation. The Spirit of Christ breathes on the members of his body through these sacred mysteries, so that they live as Christians. The euchology of the Easter season emphasizes this pneumatological theme: the Christian community participates in the Pasch of its Lord entering into new life (that of the Risen Lord) in virtue of the Holy Spirit: “Let our celebration today raise us up and renew our lives by the Spirit that is within us.” This is particularly evident in the Seventh Week of Easter, where the life of Easter is strongly underlined as “life according to the Spirit,” waiting for the eschatological Easter. The liturgical contents of the week preceding the celebration of Pentecost should inspire communities and all the faithful who gather in various ways to prepare for the solemnity, to invoke the renewed pouring out of the gifts of the Spirit. ~ In Christ, Rev. Richard Dellos

Rev. Richard Dellos’ Message for the Easter Season:

The faithful are urged to live and celebrate the whole Easter season: “Father in heaven, fifty days have celebrated the fullness of the mystery of your revealed love.” This is confirmed in the preface of the Mass for Pentecost Day: “Today you sent the Holy Spirit on those marked out to be your children by sharing the life of your only Son, and so you brought the paschal mystery to its completion.” According to the gospel of the Second Sunday of Easter (John 20:22), Jesus pours out the Holy Spirit on the apostles on the day of the Resurrection.

Pray your rosary, daily if possible, for the downfall of ISIS. Most recently, praying the rosary in Nigeria has greatly reduced the terrorist activity of Boko Haram. The praying of the rosary is the most powerful weapon on earth.

Please remember SJSP. Thank you.

A Family Perspective by Bud Ozar April 1, 2018: Easter Sunday (John 20:1-9)

That first Easter morning was confusing. Jesus was missing and Mary Magdalene, Peter and John “did not know” what to do. In family life, there are confusing moments when “we don’t know” what to do. Like the apostles, we are Easter people when we believe and trust in each other even when all seems lost.
