From the desk of Father Weiss: Dear Friends, I do believe that our Lord Jesus wants us to draw closer to him during these difficult times. Yes, we should always be trying our best to do that but I think there are a lot of peo-ple who have these anxieties about life, their families, work, our country, the world and they do not take the time to go to our Lord in prayer. Our Lord is there to say, "Ask and you shall receive". He wants to be a generous loving parent who takes care of his children, yet for some reason, many are afraid to ask now......Or if that, don't know that the Lord is there for them. How sad! Even by spending a few minutes a day in prayer, reflecting on the life of our Lord in Sacred Scripture will give us an enumerable amount of peace to navi-gate our life. God bless, Fr. Weiss

Grandparents’ Day

‘Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days Sometimes it feels like this world's gone crazy

And Grandma, take me back to yesterday When the line between right and wrong

Didn't seem so hazy

Did lovers really fall in love to stay And stand beside each other, come what may?

Was a promise really something people kept Not just something they would say and then forget

Did families really bow their heads to pray Did daddies really never go away?

Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days

Grandma, everything is changing fast We call it progress, but I just don't know

And Grandpa, let's wander back into the past And paint me the picture of long ago’

Lyrics by Jamie O’hara

How to become a Catholic

Becoming a Catholic is one of the most profound and joyous experiences of life. Some are blessed to re-ceive this gift while infants, and over the course of time they grow into a recognition of the grace that has been bestowed upon them and of the dignity and wonder of their identity as Catholics. Others come into the Catholic fold when they are older children or adults. These should have a grasp of the process by which one becomes Catholic.

A person is brought into full communion with the Catholic Church through reception of the three sacraments of Christian initiation–baptism, confirmation, and the Eucharist–but the process by which one becomes a Catholic can take different forms. Someone who is baptized in the Catholic Church becomes a Catholic at that moment. One’s initiation is deepened by Confirma-tion and the Eucharist, but one becomes a Catholic at Baptism. This is true both for children who are baptized (and receive the other two sacraments later) and for adults who are baptized, confirmed, and receive the Eucharist at one time. Those who have been baptized outside the Catholic Church become Catholics by making a profession of the Catholic faith and by being received formally into the Church. This is normally followed immediately by confirmation and the Eucharist. Before a person is ready to be received into the Church, whether by baptism or by profession of faith, preparation is necessary. For adults and children who have reached the age of reason (age seven), entrance into the Church is governed by the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). The amount and the form of this preparation depends on the individual’s circumstances. The most basic division in the kind of preparation needed is between those who are unbaptized and those who became Christian through baptism in a non-Catholic church. For information, please contact Father Weiss by email at [email protected], or call the Parish Office at 717-246-3007. 4-250

By this time, all of our children are back to school in some format or another and, we are either liking it or maybe not. Whatever side of the fence we fall on in this case, remember that our behavior can be a lesson to our children. Depending on how we are wired we all have our limits to how soon we will lose our tempers and our patients with how things are going. So, today’s lesson is one in basic Christian behavior. When we notice that a neigh-bor, co-worker, or family member has come to their limit, trade kindness for evil. All of us need to hit the reset button every now and then.

The Religious Education program here at St. Jo-seph’s has gone all electronic. Because our les-sons will be posted online through google class-room, and YouTube, your children will be able to work at their own pace and understanding and on our end, we can take registration for a longer peri-od of time.

Register online through our website and we will add you to our lists according to grade level. The first lessons will be posted the week of September 13th. We will be using the Formed Video platform throughout the year, so please register for that as well.

St. Gregory the Great implies that we will grow in the wisdom of God when we are humbled before him.
