First Reconciliation Sacrament Preparation
There will be a Parent Session on Sunday, October 27, 2019.
We will review the first 3 lessons that the students have learned.
TIME & LOCATION: 9:30 a.m. in child’s classroom
Parents– Your are your child’s first educator of the faith.
Our PSR program uses Pflaum Gospel Weeklies Faith Formation Program. Each child’s les-
son is based on the Gospel the Church proclaims on Sunday. Lessons connect the Gospel to
the children’s lives and to the doctrine that springs from the Gospel message. The lessons
are designed to be used in a traditional classroom setting, but can be used at home, to in-
volve parents through a variety of family-friendly resources. There is a parent page on
Pflaum’s website that gives parents an overview of what was taught in the classroom.
Check it out by visiting gospelweeklies.com. Have a conversation with your child about
what they learned in class. Make them feel that the education is important to them and to
you. How can your child feel it is important if you don’t participate in their education in
some fashion. Ask questions, let them see you being an active member by going to mass,
participating in parish life, volunteering, etc. After all our kids learn from us! Just like
that old saying—”Monkey see, Monkey hear, Monkey do!”

CATHOLIC I.Q.
How well do you know your Catholic Faith? Here are a few things to help you learn about your Catholic Faith!
~ Jesus commissioned the apostles to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of
the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19) This Great Commission from Jesus calls all Catholics to evangelize
and share Christ with friends, family classmates, co-workers, etc.
~Holy water found at the doors of the church is considered a sacramental.
Sacramentals such as scapulars, ashes, rosaries, and holy water are objects or actions that inspire devotion and in-
creased prayer.
~The sacraments were first celebrated by Christ. Christ instituted the sacraments so that his followers would ex-
perience God’s grace down through the ages just as the Apostles did in the first century.

Great way to be involved in the parish community! Plus it is a lot of fun working and getting
to see the many people who attend the show.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY: On September 27, the Church celebrated the feast of St. Vincent de Paul, who knew that “God had sent him to bring good news to the poor.” Together with your gifts, the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul continue his work and mission in our parish. In the month of September, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to “bring good news to the poor,” by assisting 22 families, providing over $500 in food, and $2,787.56 for utility and rent bills, etc. Thank You!
MASS OF INCLUSION FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS will be celebrated Sunday, October 6, at 5:00 p.m. by Bishop Brennan at St. Catharine of Siena, Columbus. In partnership with SPICE (Special People in Catholic Education), this Mass will celebrate the unique gifts of those with physical and mental disabilities, as well as their caretakers. There will be American Sign Language interpretation, elevator and wheelchair accessibility, low-gluten hosts for those with dietary restrictions, and ushers available to assist. Additionally, it is hoped that lay ministry roles within the Mass can be filled by individuals with special needs. If there are individuals with special needs currently serving your parish as an Altar Server, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Lector, or Cantor, please contact St. Catharine Parish (Cathryn at 614-231-4509 or [email protected]) if they would be interested in ministering at this Mass of Inclusion.
