available in the back of the church. Please

Anointing of the Sick One of the seven sacraments of the Church is the
Anointing of the Sick. In the past it was called
“Extreme Unction” which is Latin for “The Last
Anointing” and was typically done only for people
who were near death. That is not the case anymore.
The sacrament can now be given to anyone who is
seriously ill, preparing for surgery or near death. If
you, or someone you know, would like to receive
the Anointing of the Sick please contact Fr. David
in the parish office at 920-787-3848 during office
hours. If it is a dire emergency after office hours
please call 920-765-3382. If at all possible, please
do not wait until death is imminent before
calling because Fr. David may not always be
immediately available. We do understand that there
may be times when something traumatic (e.g.
sudden heart attack, car accident, etc.) suddenly
happens. In that case we will try to do our best to
respond. Thank you and God bless you all.
A BIG “Thank You” to Ken Wenninger and Don
Maes for sharing their time and artistic talent to
paint all the trim on the church. It looks great!
Children’s Worship Bulletins
Age appropriate (ages 3-6 and ages 7-12) activity
sheets, generously provided by our CCW ladies, are
available on the shelf under the Youth bulletin
board at the northwest corner of the church. These
sheets incorporate the Sunday readings into simple
learning lessons and fun activities for the kids.
Parishioners and visitors – please feel free to take
them for your children or grandchildren.
Our 2016 Raffle Calendars continue to be on sale
in church after the weekend Masses, or in the Parish
Office during regular business hours. The calendars
make wonderful gifts for any occasion. There are
daily chances to win $60 or $25 and they only cost

Are you a wood crafter? The Buildings and
Grounds Committee is looking for a volunteer wood
craftsman to work on new wood lettering for our St.
Joseph Parish road sign that faces Cambridge Street.
The existing wood letters need to be replaced. If the
Lord has gifted you with this talent please contact
Karen Wenninger at 787-1940. Thank you!
favor llame a 920-765-3382.

by the Business Ads at the back of the bulletin.
This is how it works… call the Church Office to reserve a weekend sponsorship and it will be listed in the upcoming bulletins as taken (not yet scheduled weekends would be listed as open). We will list the upcoming 8 weekends, BUT… you would be welcome to plan farther ahead and reserve a weekend well in advance of your special date. Call to Reserve Your Special Date Soon!

Some Thoughts on Marriage—by Fr. David
Greskowiak
Some people may feel that the decision by the
Supreme Court on June 26th
to legalize same-sex
marriage has redefined the hallowed and sacred
institution of marriage throughout our country. Let
me tell you though that no such change has taken
place in the Catholic Church—our Church, nor will
it. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that
marriage is: “A covenant or partnership of life
between a man and woman, which is ordered to the
well-being of the spouses and to the procreation and
upbringing of children.” This is the long-standing
teaching of the Church, and no civil, judicial or
political person has any authority whatsoever to
challenge, change or interfere with it within the
church; and no practicing Catholic should lightly
disregard it. This is both an issue of religious
liberty and personal morality.
The Church’s teaching on marriage is rooted in
Sacred Scripture and Natural Law. Natural Law is a
philosophy of law that says that binding rules of
moral behavior for both individuals and societies
can be deduced from nature by the simple use of
human reason. Applying this to marriage we can
easily see that by nature only the union of a man
and woman can produce children. Two men or two
women cannot. In the Catholic Church, openness to
children is one of the necessary ingredients for
marriage. The Church also recognizes the ability of
married couples who do not or cannot have children
to generate fertility in other loving ways.
The Catechism states: “Sacred Scripture begins
with the creation of man and woman in the image
and likeness of God and concludes with a vision of
‘the wedding feast of the Lamb.’” It goes on to say:
“God himself is the author of marriage. The
vocation to marriage is written in the very nature of
man and woman as they came from the hand of the
Creator. Marriage is not a purely human institution
despite the many variations it may have undergone
through the centuries in different cultures, social
structures, and spiritual attitudes.” It also observes
that: “Christ (himself) chose to be born and grow
up in the bosom of the holy family of Joseph and
Mary.”
To those individuals, especially those Catholics,
who say that the Church is old-fashioned, out-of-
date, or not-in-keeping with modern attitudes
toward love and marriage, I would say
unapologetically that it is not our Church that is
wrong, but rather that the acceptance of same-sex
marriage as a part of the “new normal” that is
wrong. The Church’s view of marriage has been
around for a long time and is well-grounded,
morally, philosophically and theologically. I would
compare it and other teachings to places like the
Rock of Gibraltar, Cape Horn, or a sturdy
lighthouse on a rugged coast. No matter what the
wind and seas may be doing at any particular time,
those places still stand.
There is much more that could and will be said
about marriage, but it would make this essay too
long. For now though, it is hoped with regard to the
issue of marriage, that all people of faith—young,
middle-aged and senior, will in the words of the
Collect from last Sunday: “…not be wrapped in the
darkness of error but always be seen to stand in the
bright light of truth.”
Summer Prayer
Creator of all, Thank You for summer.
Thank You for the warmth of the sun and the
increased daylight.
Thank You for the beauty I see all around me and
for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your
creation. Thank You for the increased time I have to
be with my friends and family and for the more
casual pace of the summer season.
Draw me closer to You this summer. Teach me how
I can pray no matter where I am or what I am doing.
Warm my soul with the awareness of Your presence
and light my path with Your Word and Counsel.
As I enjoy Your creation, create in me a pure heart
and a hunger and a thirst for You.
