PASTOR’S THOUGHTS: June 1-2, 2019 I am pleased to inform y’all that our HVAC Replacement Project is finished! This project took longer than originally planned due to some unforeseeable hiccups, but the delay and wait was worth it. We now have a brand new air conditioning and heating system that would last for the next decades. At the same time and in addition to this project, we also upgraded our lights system, relocated and improved our entire electrical control and panels, cleaned and sealed the floors of the church basement. At the end of June, I will publish a complete report on this project including our Year-end Financial Report. You may be wondering “after this long, extensive and expensive project, what else do we need to attend to at this campus?” The answer is plenty! The exterior of the cathedral church is now 15 years overdue for cleaning and water-proofing, the grounds of the property is over-grown and need some landscaping, drainage around the buildings and walkways needs some serious work, the neglected former Life-Teen house needs to be repaired, etc. If I tackle just one project per year, they will all be done before my term is over in few years. But of course I won’t be able to do any of these without your help and support. Jesus is counting on you can I count on you too? This weekend we are celebrating the SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD. Traditionally celebrated on the Thursday of the 6th Sunday of Easter, the United Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in 1999 transferred the observance of this day to the 7th Sunday of Easter. The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord is now officially celebrated the Sunday before the Pentecost. This solemnity for me has always been about Jesus returning home to the Father, an experience we all have in common. Regardless of who you are and where you are, where you have been and where you are from, there is always “a place” you long to return to or experience again. Perhaps it is the place where you grew up, lived temporarily, visited or stayed on a vacation. It is a place where your heart is peace and your soul finds rest. My longing to experience this was realized at the beginning of this year when I took a long vacation in the Philippines. While there, I visited the town where I was

born and toured familiar places where I spent my early childhood including my early seminary years. After 32 years of being away from my native land (47 years after leaving my birthplace), I was longing to reconnect again to see where I began, and remember where I’ve been. It is good to be reminded and to remember again and in the process, be refreshed and renewed. It was an experience worth waiting for! Jesus’ return home is not so much for Him but for us. He returned to “home” to prepare a place for OUR return home and be with the Father. We have heard from the Scriptures that the disciples did not want Jesus to leave, however, Jesus told them that UNLESS He goes “home,” then we can’t be in the Kingdom. Jesus and His disciples told us over and over again that OUR HOME is not where we are now but with God. Our presence in this world, in our houses with families and friends, church and community are temporary until our “time comes.” We make the best of what and who we have now so that in the next life we will have the best. Jesus only spent three (3) long years with His disciples but in this short time, Jesus gave and made the best of everything to all of them, and then some. This is the rea-son why the early disciples and those that followed later, was so eager to “return home to the Father and Jesus” – they all want to be with God! Someday you and I will have to return home. The question is, “where is home for you and how are you preparing for your return home?”
