April 15, 2018 From the Principal’s Desk MISSION STATEMENT Rooted in Catholic faith, and committed to academic excellence, St. Joseph Catholic School develops personal responsibility, character, service, and leadership. St. Joseph Catholic School Reaccreditation Since last spring, St. Joseph Catholic SchooI has been collecting data and writing reports and documents in preparation for our reaccreditation visit. We will welcome a team of three administrators to our campus on Monday evening. They will be with us until Wednesday afternoon. Information about the accreditation process below is taken from the FCC Accreditation Process Manual. Florida Catholic Conference Accreditation Accredits over 180 Catholic schools and centers located in Florida. Key facets of the program include: The focus is on school improvement and accountability. The rubrics for the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools are the core of the program. Each school completes an annual report reviewing the level of compliance with each benchmark. The standards are divided into four domains: Mission and Catholic Identity, Governance and Leadership, Academic Excellence, and Operational Vitality. A seven-year cycle is followed. Schools are visited once every seven years by a visitation team in order to validate the self-study work and validate the level of compliance with standards and benchmarks. The program is under the auspices of the Florida Catholic Conference, the Accreditation Committee, the Superintendents, and the Bishops of Florida. The FCC is an accrediting division of the National Council for Private School Accreditation. Mark your calendar for the 24 Hour Giving Challenge – May 1 & 2

This year the proceeds will be used for our “Windows to the Future” project. During the Giving Challenge the Paterson Foundation will match each donation of $100. In addition, Jennifer and Steven Ierulli have generously offered to assist us in raising funds by also providing a match to each donation! Therefore, a $100 donation will become $300! If we meet our goal of raising $25,000 in the first 12 hours, the Ierulli family will provide an additional match of up to another $25,000. If we can get 500 people (parents, friends, relatives, alumni) to

each donate $100, we have the potential to raise $150,000 in 24 hours!

As we get closer to the date, please watch for a letter that will provide additional details regarding this wonderful opportunity for our school!

Odyssey Teams at State Competition

Two of our Odyssey of the Mind teams qualified for the State Competition, after they won at Regionals, by competing against public and private schools from Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Manatee, Hardee and Desoto counties. Even though they did not place at the State competition, we are so proud of how they conducted themselves and represented our school. The notes from the judges consisted of many great comments. The ones that stood out were about our student’s teamwork and persistence and how well they worked together!
