A NOTE OF THANKS

St. Joseph’s BVM Ladies Sodality

wishes to express their gratitude for the

countless donations made to their an-

nual Baby Shower for Life Campaign

which supports Friends of the Unborn

in Quincy. The lives of many newborn babies and their

moms have been greatly impacted by your overwhelming

outpouring of love and compassion. We want to extend a

heartfelt thank-you, as well, for your tremendous support

of our organization throughout the year. Many worthwhile

programs in and around our parish have benefitted from

your generosity at our events, and for that we are more

than grateful.

Dear Friends,

I would like to take this moment to introduce Fr.

Joseph Boafo to the parishioners of the Collaborative of St.

John the Baptist and St. Joseph of Quincy. Fr. Joseph was

born in Ghana, and is one of fifteen children. His family

has two priests, a consecrated religious sister and religious

brother. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1996, as a

member of Holy Spirit Congregation. During that time he

worked in parish life in Gambia for ten years. After study-

ing in Ireland for one year he went to New York to work as

a Parochial Vicar. In 2009, Fr. Joseph came to Boston to

study at Boston College, receiving a Masters Degree in

Counseling Psychology and Pastoral Ministry. After re-

ceiving his degree in 2013, Fr. Joseph began hospital chap-

laincy at the Massachusetts General Hospital while also

assisting at the Holy Rosary Parish in Winthrop.

Fr. Joseph is very excited to join the collaborative

pastoral team serving our parishes. He loves being a priest

and brings many gifts to our communities. Fr. Joseph has

tremendous experience bringing the healing presence of

Jesus to all those who are suffering and carrying heavy

burdens. Fr. Joseph’s faith, hope and love of Jesus Christ is

reflected in his compassion and reverence for the dignity of

those whom he serves. We are blessed to have a man who,

like the Lord, “hears the cry of the poor,” and does some-

thing about it.

TENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dear Friends in Christ,

Peace be with you. This week I write this column together with Fr. Joseph.

We have an important question for you, as a member of your respective parish (St. Joseph’s

or St. John’s) and as a new member of this collaborative family: What time or season is it

in your heart, your soul? “You might say, this is an odd question and I don’t understand”.

Let us give context: Chapter three of the Book of Ecclesiastes begins one of the more famil-

iar, popular texts in all of the Bible. It begins by proclaiming: “for everything there is a sea-

son, and a time for every matter under the sun” (Ecc 3:1). In verses 4 and 5 we read: “..a

time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance..a time to embrace

and a time to refrain from embracing..”

So much change has happened in just two weeks time! Two beloved priests and shepherds

have concluded their assignments, and our parishes are now part of a “Collaborative” where

resources (especially priests) are shared and many changes have already begun to the parish

we know and love (i.e. Daily Mass schedule, rectory living, Liturgical styles, etc.). Many

feel anger and frustration that this was forced upon them. Others are afraid for what the fu-

ture holds. Some do not trust the Archdiocese and don’t know what to make of the new

priests in town. And many, many feel a sense of grief.

It’s so important to name the season, the time, we find ourselves in. It’s very very important for Fr. Joseph and I to name

and reverence this reality: many are grieving loss and change. We care. We love you, We see you and we want to listen and

walk with you in this time, this season.

As Fr. Joseph has said so often for the past 7 days: “we are here for everyone” (and we mean it!). As your priests and shep-

herds, we are here for you. Please do not hesitate to seek us out, to take time to talk about what is going on in this time and

season. It matters to us.

We hope and pray for the healing presence of the Good Shepherd to touch each of us; to bring us to unity and peace. Fr.

Joseph and I pray that we may have unity and peace as a Collaborative Family; and that our unity will reflect the unity of

the Most Holy Trinity.

Sincerely yours, in the love of the Most Holy Trinity,

Fr. Matt & Fr. Joseph

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. Is the kingdom of your soul divided? We are often confronted with choices that appear to be good but in essence are not. We struggle with choosing good over evil and right from wrong. Conflicts often exist within, and we walk through life with a divided heart. We realize what is needed to live with God but find ourselves doing the exact opposite. As we gather with our brothers and sisters and seek God's gift of Christ in the Eucharist, may we not only be united with one another in faith but united with God within. All conflicts and divisions can cease, and we can act with a focused, strong, and determined heart.

The Vocation Crucifix has been signed out by the following pa-rishioner (s) for the weeks of:

June 10—Chickie Abdallah

Prayer For Vocations:

St Joseph's BVM Sodality has a program devoted to praying for priestly vocations. Families or individuals volunteer to take home a crucifix for one week and daily recite the prayer for vocations. This is a simple prayer to inspire men to serve God and His church and follow in His footsteps.

There is a sign up sheet in the entrance of the church; Please choose the week you partici-pate. When it is your designated week, pick up the crucifix in the sacristy on Saturday/ Sunday and sign it out. Please return and sign in by the 4 pm the fol-lowing Saturday so it is available for the next family.

If you are new to our parish,

please introduce yourself

after Mass. We want to know

and serve you. We welcome

you and invite you to become

active members of St. Joseph

parish community.

"Be a Trooper and Run for Cooper" Join us for the third annual Coop's Troop 5K to be held at Bare Cove Park in Hingham, MA on July 15th at 8:30 am. All proceeds from the race will benefit the Coop's Troop Foundation, Inc. to help children with life limiting diseases and special needs. The founda-tion was developed in memory of Cooper Matthews Richards, a young member of the St. Frances Xavier Parish in Weymouth. Cooper's family (grandmother, aunt and cousin) lives in our parish and are active parishioners. Cooper was diagnosed with GM-1, a rare genetic disorder in March, 2015. Faith, love and hope surrounded the Richards family and Sweet Cooper as they strived to maintain a quality of life rooted in these three ideals. Cooper, at 3 years old, passed away January, 2017 of this rare disease. For more information about the foundation or to sign up for the race, visit our website at www.coopstroop.org
