Prayer is an essential part of the Catholic Spirituality. We have so many forms of prayers. We do not have to recite any particular formula created by someone else to pray. When we look at prayer as raising our hearts to the Lord and reminding ourselves of His saving presence in our lives and surrendering all that we have and all that are to Him and His Will it is the best form of prayer and it is very personal. Most people do this every day and frequently in each day. By doing so we are living in the presence of and in communion with the Lord. That is the goal of prayer. When we live in the presence of God we are safe from the control of the powers of evil in this world. Pope Benedict XXVI in his book “Jesus of Nazareth” reminds us that heaven is living in the presence of God. When we live in the presence of God every day, we start life of heaven in this life. Eternity begins here and now. Final judgement is the culmination of this daily preparation to be with Him forever. Due to the influx of the social media and material cravings generated in us we tend to be wrapped up in what this world offers to enjoy. Concern for eternal life and maintaining our spiritual practices become a matter of convenience. Eventually we feel like all that matters is to be successful in this world according to its ways. Either we ignore or we are reluctant to consider our responsibilities to assure our salvation through a disciplined way of spiritually nourishing life. we should cautiously avoid this tragedy. When we wake up we offer our day and all its happenings to God. We seek His guidance and protection so that we will maintain our identity as His children. With the help of His grace our lives become credible witnesses to the truth of our Belonging to Him. The truth that we do not belong to this world but we belong to God is something this materialistic world does not understand nor will tolerate. The world will do everything to distract us from that sense of identity as children of God. We certainly need God’s grace to prevail. Most people will read a passage from the Bible in the morning before they leave the house. This will help us to let the power of the Word of God influence our day to positive thinking and right living. After these rituals when we set out for dealing with the chores of life, there is a fresh energy and joy in us. During the day we frequently remember Jesus in our hearts. He has promised to be with us and within us. Maintaining our communion with Him enables us to realize our identity as His disciples. This will keep us mindful of the responsibility to be witnesses to His Resurrection and our hope in His Glorious coming to take us home with Him. Before we go to sleep at the end of the day, we thank Him for all the blessings. We seek His pardon for our failures. We renew our faith in His providing care and joyfully relax to sleep If we practice our prayer life sincerely, no matter what happens in life, we will be people of joy and hope. Good Catholic parents train their children in this prayer life from very early in their lives. They will never lose their faith nor leave the Lord for the lures of the world. God bless you all.

From the Pastor’s Desk / Del Escritorio del Padre

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Today we have a modern feast, less than a century old, and placed at the very end of the liturgical cycle of Sundays only in 1969. In 1925, the world was in a sorry state from the vantage point of Pope Pius XI. The winds of war had swept the map of Europe raw, and ancient Christian dynasties had fallen in Russia and Spain. Although the Great War had ended, wars were breaking out everywhere. Fascism was already in control in Italy, and Nazism was on the horizon for Germany. The disorder making its claim on the human race was, the pope felt, an insult to the Divine Order. Pius XI designated the last Sunday in October as a day of universal recognition of the kingship of Christ. Creating this feast was an act of bravery by the pope, who was standing up against idolatry of the state and the dehumanizing forces of the modern world, things that are not hard to detect in today’s world as well. In 1969 it seemed fitting to move the feast to a place of honor at the end of the year, a way of summing up the whole movement of the liturgical year toward the perfection of the Kingdom of God. In recent decades, many Protestant churches have adopted this day from the new Roman calendar, so it is shared now with the Church of England, the Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Lutheran churches, and others.

CHRIST, KING OF ALL

On this, the final Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming

our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only king over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation.

At the end of time as we know it, Christ’s work of restoring all things to unity and harmony

with their Creator God will be completed. This Sunday, when we claim Christ as both our Shepherd and our King, we recognize our own calling to

participate in Christ’s saving work by caring for those whom Jesus calls “the least ones” (Matthew 25:45). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Pastor y nuestro Rey, reconocemos nuestro llamado a

insignificantes” (Mateo 25:45). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
