Would you like to spend 1 committed hour with Jesus each Friday, here at St. Joseph's Church?

"My Lord Jesus Christ, who, for the love you bear to mankind, do remain night and day in this Sacrament, full of pity and love, awaiting, call-ing, and receiving all who come to visit you; I believe that you are present in the Sacrament of the Altar; I adore you from the depths of my own nothingness; I thank you for the many grac-es you have given me, and especially for having given me yourself in this Sacrament; for having given me Mary your Mother as my advocate, and for having called me to visit you in this church". (St. Alphonsus Liguori, 1696-1787, Italian bishop and founder of the Redemptorists, was proclaimed a doc-tor of the Church and is patron of confessors and moralists. Feast: August 1.)

After all the Masses, today and next week, our CCW will be sponsoring a sign up for Eucharistic Adoration which takes place on Friday's from 8:00 am - 7:00 pm. We do ask to please be committed and faithful to that hour. Whether your an adorer or considering it ,we need to make sure that each hour is covered. We will be in the back of church after all the Masses~ so please stop by on your way out of church.

QUESTIONS OF POWER All of today's readings, especially the Gospel passage from Matthew, claim that God honors the poor and the lowly, and promise God's blessing in the Kingdom proclaimed by Jesus. Many of those who encountered Jesus, and later Paul, thought that this talk of the meek inheriting the earth was a lot of foolishness. Isn't it obvious that the "powerful," those with military, economic, and social power, are running things? Paul seems to say that we must first understand the nature and purpose of power. Because of Christ, the power derived from self-serving human structures will fade sooner or later. Lasting power comes only from God; pow-er that provides care for others and heals divisions between us. Worldly power is of real value, but is to be exer-cised responsibly, in service only to God's purposes. This is the kind of power that in the end really matters. The meek and the pure of heart seem to understand this most clearly. Because they are free of the burden of pro-tecting their own power, they may more fully reveal the truth of God's power.

N ext week St. Joseph’s Church will host their annual Blood Drive. For the past 40 years we have come together as family to

help others needing Blood. There have been many, many, times when the members of our “Church Fami-ly” had to be given Blood. For some, it truly was the reason their life was saved.

Giving Blood is easy and only takes about an

hour. The realization that in that one hour you could possibly be saving the lives of 3 people is just phenom-enal.

Sign up to give Blood after all Masses this

weekend or call Judy 630-628-1959. We still need people to help with the drive

and to offer to bake for our donors.

BLOOD DRIVE: DATE: Saturday February 4th TIME: 1:00 – 6:00

PLACE: St Joseph Lower Hall For information or to make an appointment, stop

after Mass or call: Judy 630-628-1959
