A Letter from Mary Queen of Heaven

Dear Parish Members of St Joseph and St Charles Borromeo The word “catholic” (universal) literally means “here comes everybody.” And that means we are all in this together. When the members of our parish family, Mary Queen of Heaven in Elmhurst learned that St Joseph and St Charles Borromeo joined forces to create Holy Family Catholic School we wanted to be part of the action. We don’t have a Catholic School of our own and truly believe that Catholic education should be avail-able to all who truly need it. Toward this end our parish community has pledged a substantial tithe to the school. In addition we are having several events with the proceeds going to Holy Family Catholic School. The first is a 5K Run-Walk on Saturday October 20 at 8:00 a.m. We would love to have you join us in supporting the school and enjoying the day in fellowship. You may register for the event at http://www.maryqueen.org and follow the prompts. The cost is $25 per adult, $15 per student (12-18) and $65 per family (children under 12 run free with paid adults.) Do plan on attending and supporting your wonderful school. Sincerely in Jesus the Student,

Fr. Tony Taschetta Pastor of Mary Queen of Heaven

Calling all runners and walkers!...Mary Queen of Heaven Parish in Elmhurst is hosting a 5K run/walk on Saturday, October 20th at 8:00am with ALL proceeds going to Holy Family Catholic School. What a wonderful way to have fun with the family and raise money for our school. Every-one is welcome! Please register online at www.maryqueen.org.

Football Mania...Congratulations to Pat Filosa who was last week's Football Mania winner. Way to go!

Help needed!...We are looking for a few adults who would be interested in coaching some of the boys' basketball teams. Lots of students signed up to play, but we do not have any coaches. If you are interested in volunteering to coach one of the teams, please contact the school office.

Come check out Holy Family Catholic School where we proclaim Christ! www.hfcatholic.org

DIOCESAN ELIZABETH MINISTRY TRAINING

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27 Elizabeth Ministry is an international move-ment offering encouragement, hope and heal-ing on issues related to the joys and sorrows of the childbearing years. The ministry is based on the visitation story of Mary and Elizabeth in Luke’s Gospel. Just as Mary came to Eliza-beth for guidance after discovering she carried Our Savior in her womb, we too can be that support for others. Following their example we visit and share the sacredness of life. Women who are interested in starting or re-viving this ministry at their parish must have parish approval and are welcome to come to this training/information day. Desirée Marciani, the associate director of The Center for Family Ministry, will facilitate the day. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. The training be-gins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. at St Francis of Assisi Parish, 1501 W. Boughton Rd. in Bolingbrook. Registration is required. The $20 donation includes food and materials. For questions about the ministry call Desiree Marciani at 815-838-5334. To register, call or email Beth Diedrick by October 22 at 630-240-0166

World Mission Sunday October 21, 2012

What is it?

One Sunday for the Whole World Every year, something special happens on the next-to-last Sunday of October – the Church reflects its deepest identity –as the Church in Mission. On World Mission Sunday, Catholics of the world unite at Mass to recommit ourselves to our vocation, through Bap-tism, to be missionaries. The Church’s missionary activity begins with the proclamation of faith: “Jesus is Lord!” He is our common hope – a hope that saves. On World Mission Sunday, we are called in a special way to be “missionaries of faith” through prayer and participation in the Eucharist, and by giving generously to the collection. World Mission Sunday was established by Pope Pius XI in 1926. He saw the day as a way to “foster understanding of the greatness of the missionary task, encourage zeal among the clergy and the people, and offer an opportunity to make the Society for the Propagation of the Faith ever more widely known and encourage offerings for the missions.” In a world where so much divides us, World Mission Sun-day rejoices in our unity as missionaries! And it provides an opportunity to support the life-giving presence of the Church among the suffering and the poor in more than 1,150 mission dioceses. Pope Benedict XVI prays that World Mission Sunday and the Year of Faith (October 2012 through November 2013) will bring “renewed energy to the mission of the whole Church, to lead men and women out of the desert toward friendship with Christ Who gives fullness of life.”

Why is this my responsibility ?

We’re All Missionaries

Learn more about the Pontifical Mission Societies, including the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, at OneFamilyInMission.org

Do you know the date of your Baptism?

Well, on that day, you became a missionary, called by our Lord to share your faith with those around you – and to be part of the Church’s mission to the world.

We are not all able to travel to foreign lands as St. Francis Xavier did. However, we can all make effort in our daily lives – through prayer and sacrifice – to support those men and women who are called to leave their homeland and preach the Good News of the Lord in a foreign land.

And don’t forget to look around you right now to see how Jesus is coming to birth in new ways for today’s world – for your world.

What can we do ? You Can Make A Difference

There are gifts to bring to the celebration on World Mission Sunday.

Our greatest gift is prayer – daily prayer for the Missions and in support of those offering the poor Christ’s hope and salva-tion.

Financial help is also needed for the young mission churches as they serve the poorest of our human family.

A gift of $15 is a week’s support of a young man in a mission seminary – like John Simwinga, a student at St. Dominic’s Major Seminary in Lusaka, Zambia. In between studies, he volun-teers at the Cheshire Home where children with disabilities receive an education, three nutritious meals a day – and an endless supply of the love of our Lord.

In fact, a gift of $50 helps provide care for one of the 50 children at this home. “The happiness in the hearts of these children is quite something,” says John.

A gift of $100 covers the cost of a desk and textbook for five of the 300 children in catechism class at a parish on the Galápagos Islands off Ecuador.

A gift of $75 assists Father Dominic Sarkar at St. Joseph’s Parish in Srimangal, Bangladesh. He visits 10,000 Catholics spread over 10,000 square miles – celebrating the Sacraments, while providing concrete help for the poor there, the work-ers and their families from the country’s tea estates.

On Sunday, October 21 please consider making a donation during the collection for your brothers and sisters around the world as an individual, family or group.

Stewardship Thought for the Week

The first two chapters of the Book of Genesis offer two different stories of creation. The one we hear today emphasizes how God instituted matrimony at the very dawn of creation. As He created man and woman to be suitable partners for one another and to join themselves together in a oneness of love for the whole of their lives. Stewardship, acknowledging all we have comes from God, begins in matrimony. September 30 Weekend: 227 Adult Envelopes: $4,424.00 + Loose Cash $2,930.00 + Children’s $437.01 = Total Sunday $7,791.01

Our Goal each Week to cover our expenses is $11,500.

Thank you for your kind generosity and your deep love of Saint Joseph.

Nuestra Meta por Semana para cubrir los gastos es de: $11,500.

Gracias por su Generosidad.
