THE RACIMS OF JESUS

In today's Gospel it is surprising to see a Jesus despot, rude and with a discriminatory attitude toward a non-Jewish woman who approaches him asking him to heal her daughter. It is an attitude that is very contrary to the Jesus we know full of kindness and charity for all. However, within the incomprehensible, arises a great lesson and marks a new attitude towards the Church that he would create. Jesus takes the same attitude of the Jews who know they are the chosen people of God, looks with disapproval to those who do not belong to their people. This attitude continues today in the most traditional branch of Judaism. Jesus, even offends the woman calling her ¨dog¨. Nevertheless, the love of mother takes her to accept the humiliation in order to obtain a favor from who she knows that can heal his daughter and, faced with this sample of humility and of such great faith, Jesus grants the favor requested, thus showing that salvation is not only for the descendants of Abraham, but for all the peoples, the same way that Saint Paul makes it known in his letter to the Romans ¨For if their rejection brought reconciliation to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? ¨ What leads us to be racist, selective or selfish? What does the Christian members of the Kukuxklan, or militant Christians of Nazism to act with such rage against other races? The lifeboats on the Titanic had capacity for 50 passengers, however they were only occupied by 20 first-class, causing many who could have been saved to perish. The current immigrants traveling from Africa to Europe in search of better conditions of life, or the Central and South Americans who come to the United States, they have the same motivations that immigrants who entered without passport or documents by Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts in 1620. What gives the right to decide who can occupy a place in the lifeboats and who could not? In the same way we need to question the immigration laws that hinder the legal entry to this country founded by immigrants from its origin. What should be our Christian attitude with regards to migration? ¨there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free; there is neither male nor female, because they are all one in Christ Jesus.¨ (Gal 3:28). ''Do not deprive the foreigner or the fatherless of justice, or

take the cloak of the widow as a pledge.¨ (Deut. 24, 17). ''For I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not visit me. ¨.(Mat.25, 43) The Bishops of the United States invite us to support the solution of a favorable immigration law for more than eleven million undocumented immigrants living in this country and pray that they will find a dignify and charitable solution for the thousands of immigrant children who are detained in the centers of ICE. There are not many races, only one: The Human Race and we are all brothers and sisters.

EL RACISMO DE JESUS

En el Evangelio de hoy sorprende ver a un Jesús déspota, grosero y con una actitud discriminatoria hacia esa mujer no Judía que se acerca a Él pidiéndole que cure a su hija. Es una actitud muy contraria al Jesús que conocemos lleno de bondad y caridad para con todos. Sin embargo, dentro de lo incomprensible, surge una gran lección y marca una actitud nueva para la Iglesia que habría de crear.

Jesús toma la misma actitud de los Judíos que por saberse el Pueblo elegido por Dios, mira con desprecio a quienes no pertenecen a ese pueblo. Actitud que continúa hoy en día en la rama más tradicional del Judaísmo. Jesús, incluso ofende a esa mujer llamándola ¨perra¨. Sin embargo, el amor de Madre la lleva a aceptar la humillación con tal de obtener un favor de quién ella sabe que puede sanar a su hija y, ante esta muestra de humildad y de fe tan grande, Jesús le confiere el favor que solicita, mostrando así que la salvación no es sólo para los descendientes de Abraham, sino para todos los pueblos, así como lo manifiesta San Pablo en la Carta a los Romanos. ¨Porque si su rechazo ha sido reconciliación para el Mundo, ¿Qué no será su reintegración?¨ ¿Qué nos lleva a ser racistas, selectivos o egoístas? ¿Qué hace que los Cristianos miembros del Kukuxklán, o Cristianos militantes del Nacismo actúen con tanta furia en contra de otras razas? Los botes salvavidas del Titanic tenían capacidad para 50 pasajeros, sin embargo sólo eran ocupados por 20 de primera clase, causando que muchos que pudieran salvarse perecieran. Los actuales inmigrantes que viajan de África a Europa en busca de mejores condiciones de vida, o los Centro y Sud Americanos que vienen a los Estados Unidos, tienen las mismas motivaciones que los primeros inmigrantes que entraron sin pasaporte, ni documentos por Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts en 1620. ¿Qué da derecho a decidir quién puede ocupar un lugar en los botes salvavidas y quién no? De la misma manera hay que cuestionar las leyes migratorias que dificultan la entrada legal a este país fundado por Inmigrantes desde su origen. ¿Cuál debe de ser nuestra actitud Cristiana en cuanto a la Migración? La Misma actitud de Cristo en la que invita a ir hasta los confines del Mundo y llama a todos a ser Salvados, a reconocer que ante Dios ¨ya No hay Judío ni Griego; no hay esclavo ni libre; no hay hombre ni mujer, porque todos son uno en Cristo Jesús.¨ (Gal 3, 28). ¨No maltrates ni oprimas a los extranjeros en ninguna forma. Recuerda que tú también fuiste extranjero en la tierra de Egipto. No explotes a la viuda ni al huérfano.¨ (Deut. 24, 17). ¨Fui extranjero, y no Me recibieron; estaba desnudo, y no Me vistieron; enfermo, y en la cárcel, y no Me visitaron¨.(Mat.25, 43) Los Obispos de Estados Unidos nos invitan a apoyar la solución de una Lay Migratoria favorable para los más de once millones de indocumentados que viven en este País y orar para que se encuentre una solución digna y caritativa para los miles de niños inmigrantes que están detenidos en los centros de ICE. No hay muchas razas, tan solo una: La Raza Humana y todos somos hermanos.

To despise a person because he is of a race different from ours is called racism. Putting aside a person because he is from another country is called xenophobia. Any ill-treatment on grounds of religion, sex, disease, social or cultural condition is called discrimination, and discrimination is one of the great sins of our world today. I know an old lady who prays a rosary every day for the conversion of Trump, because she is frightened by the racism and xenophobia he manifests in his continuous attacks against Mexico. Discrimination is a very serious disease that undermines the health of the people who have become the most powerful in the world. The most cruel wars are unleashed on the basis of race or religion, today and in the past. All the violence of Muslims has its foundation in believing that they will earn paradise if they kill an infidel. Infidels, for them, are all who are not Muslims. And this belief has a rebound, in non-Muslim countries distrustful looks at all who practice this religion because in each of them is seen a potential killer. What sad humanity! Whites discriminate against black people and vice versa, blacks kill each other because they belong to different tribes, evangelicals attack Catholics and Catholics from the South expel them from their communities, the Mexicans in the province discriminate against chilangos horribly! The Yucatecans do not want those of Campeche, the natives originating from these lands have been marginalized through the centuries and even they are ashamed of being Indians, failing to speak their language, condemning it to disappear. How beautiful the doctrine of the Catholic Church teaches us that all men have a father and a common mother! We are all children of Eve. We are all brothers. This doctrine is called monogenism. How beautiful the doctrine of Jesus that accepts all men to be children of God and that institutes a Catholic Church, that is, universal! In the home of the Church all fit. Saints and sinners, black and white, Spanish and Indian, native and foreign, rich and poor, provincial and chilangos. The love of our culture, very legitimate, should not lead us to despise or fear people of other cultures. Love of our land should not lead us to discriminate against outsiders. The love of our religion should not lead us to attack those of other religions.

To be Catholic is to be universal.

Meditaciones de Fr. El hermano de Jorge - Sergio G. Román Despreciar a una persona porque es de una raza diferente a la nuestra se llama racismo. Hacer a un lado a una persona porque es de otro país se llama xenofobia. Cualquier mal trato por motivos de religión, sexo, enfermedad, condición social o cultural se llama discriminación, y la discriminación es uno de los grandes pecados de nuestro mundo actual. Conozco a una ancianita que reza todos los días un rosario por la conversión de Trump, porque a ella le asusta el racismo y la xenofobia que este mandatario manifiesta en sus ataques continuos contra México. La discriminación es una enfermedad muy grave que mina la salud de ese pueblo que ha llegado a ser el más poderoso del mundo. Las guerras más crueles se desatan por motivos de raza o de religión, hoy y en el pasado. Toda la violencia de los musulmanes tiene su fundamento en creer que se ganan el paraíso si matan a un infiel. Infieles, para ellos, somos todos los que no somos musulmanes. Y esta creencia tiene un rebote, en los países no musulmanes se mira con desconfianza a todos los que practican esta religión porque en cada uno de ellos se ve a un asesino potencial.

¡Qué triste humanidad! Los blancos discriminan a los de color y viceversa, los negros se matan entre ellos porque pertenecen a tribus diferentes, los evangélicos atacan a los católicos y los católicos del Sur los expulsan de sus comunidades, ¡los mexicanos de provincia discriminan horriblemente a los chilangos!, los yucatecos no quieren a los de Campeche, los nativos originarios de estas tierras han sido marginados a través de los siglos y hasta

ellos mismos se avergüenzan de ser indios, dejando de hablar su idioma, condenándolo a desaparecer. ¡Qué hermosa la doctrina de la Iglesia Católica que nos enseña que todos los hombres tenemos un padre y una madre común! Todos somos hijos de Eva. Todos somos hermanos. Esta doctrina se llama monogenismo. ¡Qué hermosa la doctrina de Jesús que acepta a todos los hombres a ser hijos de Dios y que instituye una Iglesia Católica, es decir, universal! En el hogar de la Iglesia caben todos. Santos y pecadores, blancos y negros, españoles e indios, nativos y extranjeros, ricos y pobres, provincianos y chilangos. El amor a nuestra cultura, muy legítimo, no debe llevarnos a despreciar o a temer a las personas de otras culturas. El amor a nuestra tierra no debe llevarnos a discriminar a los fuereños. El amor a nuestra religión no debe llevarnos a agredir a los de otras religiones. Ser católico es ser universal.
