THIS IS MY BELOVED SON

This Sunday’s celebration of the Baptism of the Lord closes the Christmas season. In the scriptures we see one more epiphany, or manifestation, of the Spirit of God in Jesus—but this time it is as an adult, rather than as a child. Jesus’ baptism also serves as the inauguration of his prophetic mission and the messianic age. Today’s reading from Isaiah describes God’s chosen Messiah, upon whom God’s spirit rests. In the Acts of the Apostles Peter says that “God anointed Jesus of Naz-areth with the Holy Spirit and power” (Acts 10:38). Fi-nally, in the proclamation from Matthew’s Gospel Jesus’ baptism in water goes almost unnoticed. The crucial mo-ment comes when the Spirit of God comes upon Jesus and a voice from heaven echoes the words of Isaiah: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17).

Blessings, Fr. Thomas Kiely

The Annual Respect Life Ad will be placed in the Kingston Sunday

Freeman on January 19th, 2020. This will remind our community that estimates of over 62 million babies have lost their lives from

abortion, over the past forty-six years of legalized abortion.

We need to make this a successful witness for life. It is more important than ever to keep the tragedy of

abortion before the public and to let our community know that thousands of us stand with those who join

the March for Life in Washington, D.C. on January 24, 2020.

You have a chance to save a life next Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020.

Please plan on joining us for this years an-nual St. John’s Blood drive at the 12 Holly Hills Drive, Woodstock NY, in the Parish Hall from 8AM to 1PM. The Red Cross has a need for millions of pints of blood each year for people with life threatening medical conditions. The only source of blood is from volunteer donors. There is no artificial or manufactured blood.

Please plan on joining us.

Our November $100 Fuel Club Winner is Anne Hass and
