SIXTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME: BLESSED ARE YOU All week I have been thinking about at what cost does happiness come? What makes us happy as Christians versus the world? Today’s gospel is one we have heard so many times, but still we continue to push away from in our daily lives. I grew up like many of us did, with parents who worked continuously to provide for us. They worked so we could have an education, have a roof over our heads, food on the table and clothes on our backs. We had our church, all we did was encircled by our parish. I had a happy childhood. Happiness was not an equivalent of having it all, nor that all went well. Their were struggles, hardships, losses, pain and fear, but we had our Lord, our family, our community and our friends. We learned to live and love in the simplicity of what we had or didn’t have. As the years have passed by, the world has progressed (?), we now began to accumulate more and more. We had to have the latest things and many of them. For example: having one TV or now in comparison to having a TV in each room, even the bathroom. We spent more time together and then we experienced things together, life ad family. How to be for our neighbor, how to give of what you have and need, because someone needed it more, to sacrifice for the greater good. Compassion we learned from our Lord who walked with us at all times, in all our needs. The Lord sees the plight of the poor, those who cry, those who hunger, those who are hated, those who are persecuted and are chastised for their belief in Him. He sees them as they are and reminds that they are not forgotten and that they will have their recompense. We are also reminded in our oneness of being to become like Christ to them. How not lose sight of our poor and provide for them, not in a demeaning way nor without letting have a voice in their own necessities. It is also a call for us to be present, not just passers by, giving what we are and what we possess. Walking with them and letting them walk with us before God, in God and through God. During the week, we have been reading about creation, it has been invitation to rethink how we have dominion of all creation, how God calls us to take care of all versus the world telling to use and dispose. May we take times to cherish all lives, but especially to the Anawin, the poor of our God. Saint Vincent reminds us that if we “go the poor, we will find God.”

Toda la semana he estado pensando a qué costo viene la felicidad? ¿Qué nos hace felices como cristianos frente al mundo? El evangelio de hoy es uno que hemos escuchado tantas veces, pero aún así continuamos alejándolo de nuestras vidas diarias. Crecí como muchos de nosotros, con padres que trabajaron continuamente para proveer para nosotros. Trabajaron para que pudiéramos tener una educación, un techo sobre nuestras cabezas, comida en la mesa y ropa en la espalda. Tuvimos nuestra iglesia, todo lo que hicimos fue entorno a nuestra parroquia. Tuvimos una infancia feliz. La felicidad no era equivalente a tenerlo todo, ni que todo saliera bien. Hubieron luchas, dificultades, pérdidas, dolor y miedo, pero teníamos a nuestro Señor, nuestra familia, nuestra comunidad y nuestros amigos. Aprendimos a vivir y amar en la simplicidad de lo que se tenía o no se tenía. A medida que pasaron los años, el mundo ha progresado (?), Ahora empezamos a acumular más y más. Teníamos que tener las últimas cosas y muchas de ellas. Por ejemplo: tener un televisor o en comparación con tener ahora un televisor en cada habitación, incluso el baño. Antes pasamos más tiempo juntos y luego experimentamos cosas juntos, la vida y la familia. Aprendimos cómo ser para el prójimo, cómo dar lo que teníamos y de lo que necesitábamos, porque alguien lo necesita más, en sacrificarlo por el bien mayor. Él los ve como son y les recuerda que no están olvidados y que tendrán su recompensa. También nos recuerda sobre nuestra unidad para llegar a ser como Cristo para ellos. Cómo no perder de vista a nuestros pobres y proveer para ellos, no de una manera humillante ni sin dejar que expresen sus propias necesidades. También es una llamada a estar presentes, no solo transeúntes, que demos de lo que somos y lo que poseemos. Caminando con ellos y dejándolos caminar con nosotros delante de Dios, en Dios y por medio de Dios. Durante la semana, hemos estado leyendo acerca de la creación, ha sido una invitación a repensar cómo tenemos el dominio de toda la creación, cómo Dios nos llama a cuidar de todo mientras que el mundo nos dice que debemos usar y desechar. Tomemos un tiempo para apreciar todas las vidas, pero especialmente a los Anawin, los pobres de nuestro Dios. San Vicente nos recuerda que si “vamos a los pobres, encontraremos a Dios”.

For a marriage ceremony at St. John the Baptist or Our Lady of Good Counsel, arrangements must be made with the Pastor at least 1 year before the wedding date. The diocesan Marriage Preparation or “Pre-Cana” classes are presented in English, Spanish, Creole, Polish and Italian. The Diocese of Brooklyn have specialized Pre-Cana for Interfaith/Interchurch couples, for couples who are re-marrying and for couples who are convalidating their civil unions. HOLY SACRAMENTS Infant Baptism Birth to 6 yrs.

Infant baptisms are celebrated on the first Sunday of every month. Baptism preparation class for parents and Godparents are held on the Tuesday prior to the Baptism Sunday. Parent(s) or Godparent(s), please bring an original birth certificate of the child to the main office where you can begin the process of registration for this beautiful sacrament.

Children’s Faith Formation ages 7 yrs. to 15 yrs. (Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation) Our Children’s Faith Formation program provides preparation of the Holy Sacraments for children. The program follows Diocesan Guidelines for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children. The hours for children's faith formation classes are Sunday, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Pentecost Confirmation 16 yrs. and older Are you baptized and received First Holy Communion but have not completed the Sacrament of Confirmation and you are over the age of 16? Our Confirmation only program begins in January in preparation for Pentecost Confirmation typically at the end of May or beginning of June.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) (Becoming a Catholic)

Are you baptized? Have you received First Holy Communion? Are you Confirmed? Adults and youth at least 16 yrs. of age seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church are invited to enter into a process of faith formation. RCIA classes are all year round.

LOS SACRAMENTOS Bautismo para bebes nacimiento a 6 años

Los bautismos para bebes se celebran el primer domingo de cada mes. La clase de preparación del bautismo para los padres y padrinos es el martes antes del domingo del bautismo. Padres o Padrinos, traiga el certificado de nacimiento original del niño a la oficina principal donde pueden comenzar el proceso de inscripción para este hermoso sacramento.

Formación de Fe para Niños 7 años hasta 15 años (Bautismo, Primera Comunión, Confirmación) El programa de formación de fe para nuestros niños se prepara los niños para sus Sacramentos. El programa sigue las Directrices Diocesanas para el Rito de Iniciación Cristiana de los Niños. Las horas para las clases son domingo, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Confirmación de Pentecostés 16 años y adelante ¿Se ha bautizado y recibido la Primera Comunión pero no ha completado el Sacramento de la Confirmación y tiene más de 16 años de edad? Nuestro programa de Confirmación solo comienza en enero en preparación para la Confirmación de Pentecostés típicamente en mayo o junio.
