Join us on Zoom as our women's group hosts Michele Dillon, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Professor of Sociology at the University of New Hampshire. A frequent lecturer on Women in the Church and contemporary Catholic issues, Dr. Dillon will be sharing her

insights on this years theme, "The Still-Small Voice: Discerning God's Presence in the Present".

She was educated at University College Dublin (with a Bachelor's degree in Social Science and a Master's in Sociology) and the University of California, Berkeley where she received her PhD in Sociology. Her research focuses primarily on contemporary Catholicism. Her publications include Postsecular Catholicism (Oxford University Press, 2018), Catholic Identity: Balancing Reason, Faith, and Power (Cambridge University Press, 1999), American Catholics in Transition (co-authors W. D'Antonio & M. Gautier; Rowman & Littlefield, 2013), In the Course of a Lifetime: Tracing Religious Belief, Practice and Change (co-author Paul Wink; University of California Press, 2007) - named by Choice as an out-standing title of 2007, Debating Divorce: Moral Conflict in Ireland (University Press of Kentucky, 1993), Handbook of the Sociology of Religion (editor, Cambridge University Press, 2003), Introduction to Sociological Theory (Wiley-Blackwell, 3rd ed., 2020), the Concise Reader in Sociological Theory (Wiley 2021), and over 50 book chapters and articles in journals such as Sociological Theory, Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, Sociology of Religion, Public Opinion Quarterly, and Journal of Adult Development.

We would like to remind everyone that if you are not comfortable attending a Sunday or daily Mass but would like to receive Communion, there are opportunities to do so at the end of the Adoration hours at either Church. Adoration is on Mondays from 1:00- 2:00pm at St. Paul Church and Fridays from 1:00-2:00pm at St. John the Evangelist Church. Communion is distributed at the end of this hour both in the Church and outside on the steps of the Church for those who prefer not to come in at this time. We are pleased to also offer the opportunity to receive Communion on the steps of the Church after each daily Mass. Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 9:00am Mass at St. Paul Church with Communion outside at 9:30am and Tuesday and Thursday: 7:00am Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church with Communion outside at 7:30am.

In the Gospel today, Jesus asks “What are you looking for?” Often, we are looking for happiness in very selfish ways, but we find that when we look for ways to make others happy, it is then that we truly become happy.

CARING FOR OUR COMMON HOME, LAUDATO SI`

For many of us, the start of a New Year is a time of reflection and a call to action. This is especially true now as we face the dire consequences from COVID-19 and climate change. Both of these crises have revealed that all humanity is inextricably connected.

They have also shined a light on what is most important in our lives and made us more grateful for the things we’ve always taken for granted. For example, we have greatly missed our gatherings with family and friends, but have found solace and joy from our walks in the outdoors surrounded by nature.

In his new book, “Let Us Dream: The Path to a Better Future,” Pope Francis encourages us to heed God’s call to action when he asks: “How will we deal with the hidden pandemics of this world, the pandemics of hunger and violence and climate change?” He exhorts us to change the way we think so that we come out of this crisis less selfish

and more empathetic to the needs of others. Out of these crises, God is asking us to create something new. Just as in today’s Gospel when Jesus asks those following Him, “What are you looking for?” (John 1:38), Jesus is inviting all of us to ponder the same question. Pope Francis points out, “This is a moment to dream big, to rethink our priorities – what we value, what we want, what we seek – and to commit to act in our daily life on what we have dreamed of.” Jesus gave us the roadmap to a better future by teaching us to pray, the “Our Father”.
