REJOICE…….

We celebrate today Gaudete Sunday when we are urged to

rejoice, the translation of the Latin ‘Gaudete.’ Rose-coloured

vestments are worn and we light the rose-coloured candle on

our Advent wreath. The opening prayer of the Mass asks God

to enable us to make real in our lives the joy of the Lord’s

Nativity and to celebrate with glad rejoicing as well as solemn,

not sombre or serious, liturgy.

We need to remind ourselves of the importance of rejoicing

in these times of political uncertainty. Related to the current

political situation and exiting the EU the bishops have asked

us to make you aware of the Settlement Scheme for EU

citizens which be launched next year; it will offer EU citizens

living here a legal route to remain but does not apply to Irish

citizens. Although the bishops have serious misgivings about

this scheme, not least its charges, it remains a fact that EU

citizens must apply if they are to protect their existing rights.

We have been asked to bring the scheme to the attention of

all who need to avail of it. Further information can be found

at: www.gov.uk/settled-status-eu-citizens-families

Finally let us to take up Pope Francis’ call to welcome,

protect, promote and help to integrate everyone who has

made their home here.

Every blessing for the week ahead,

Please add your greeting to the card and it will be posted for you then include the person in your prayers during Advent. Parish 100 Club We are in a four-year plan to pay back the loan that the diocese gave our parish to make the work on the church possible. One fund raising initiative is for parishioners to join the Parish 100 Club. We would ask parishioners to either buy a monthly ticket which costs £5 or to pay £60 for the full year in advance. Unfortunately numbers appear to have decreased over the years so we would ask if you would consider joining! Monthly prizes are £100 for first prize, £50 for second prize and £25 for third. So, if you have been a member in the past and would like to re-join or are a new member, please collect the forms from the porch or our website and return to the presbytery.

After much deliberation the Governing Body voted this week to convert the school to an academy and join the Holy Family Catholic Academy Trust consisting of The Sacred Heart Language College, St. George’s Catholic Primary School, St. John Fisher Catholic Primary School and St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary. The Governors were assured that the academy model being proposed by the Diocese would preserve the uniqueness of the school, the autonomy of its Headteacher in her responsibility in leading the day to day management of the school and the ability of its Governors to make decisions for the good of the school, its pupils and its staff.
