Dear Parishioners, A gathering of the Pastors, Associate Pastors, deacons, lay staff and other employees, school and parish lay leadership and interested parishioners of St. Martha, St. Isaac Jogues, and St. John Brebeuf took place on Wednesday, May 2, in our Parish Ministry Center. Our “Get to Know You” Spaghetti Dinner was attended by 60 individuals made up of 20 people per parish. This was part of the soft collaboration of our “Renew My Church” parish groupings in preparation of our being more formally “activated” which is tentatively set for July 1, 2019. Perhaps you recall the “Get to Know You” Invitation that was in our bulletin over the last few weeks regard-ing “Renew My Parish” and our desire to build relationships across parish boundaries. Renew My Parish Initi-ative will undoubtedly touch all of us and all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Chicago. It's an exciting time when we look imaginatively at what it means to be Catholic, Missionary Disciples. Changing, letting go, grieving the familiar while embracing the future will all be part of our journey with the Lord Jesus Christ. Below, look at our agenda that we had. Reflect on the questions posed. Notice the results that the attendees came up with that has been posted in the narthex. Add your own responses, hopes and new opportunities. Af-ter a few weeks we will post them in future bulletins. Say a prayer for all involved in the process that is taking place in all the parishes across the Archdiocese of Chicago, Catholics in Cook and Lake Counties.

Get to Know You Questions Please introduce yourself:

What is your ministry/role at your parish? When you think about your parish, what characteristic are you most proud of?

Renew My Church is about looking forward, dreaming big and boldly to invite people who are filled with im-agination and joy to follow Christ. Individually, ask yourself:

What are your hopes? What are some of the opportunities that you see as outcomes of the Renew My Church Initiatives?

Father Mike Meany

Happy Mother's Day!

Mother's Day invites to reflect on how a mothers' love opens our eyes to recognize our gifts and talents and sends us out into service in His name. For we always have to remem-ber that a parent must recognize that their children are gifts from God and that their first priority is to teach and nourish the faith in them so that they can in turn serve God in the world through a holy and virtuous life. Like the Christ who walked with his disciples on the way to Emmaus, parents seek to listen to, walk with and love their children not only when the they are young but all through their lives.

May God Bless you and yours on Mother's Day! Thank you for your generosity! Fr. Mike Meany

Drodzy parafianie, Spotkanie proboszczów, wikarych, diakonów, świeckich pracowników i innych pracowników parafialnych ze św. Marty, św. Izaaka Joguesa i św. Jana Brebeuf odbyło się w środę 2 maja br. w Centrum Duszpasterstwa Tom May. Dodaj własne odpowiedzi, nadzieje i nowe możliwości.

Niech Bog Blogoslawi Was i Waszych najblizszych w Dniu Matki ! Dziekuje za Wasza hojnosc !

Dear Father Meany,

Thank you for allowing us to share our mission directly with your parishioners and for their gift of $9,240.37 in response to our appeal at your church. We are truly grateful for your generosity and caring support of our beloved Residents.

Last week we welcomed Bishop William Callahan of the Diocese of La Crosse to celebrate the Feast Day of St. Joseph with us. Bishop Callahan is a familiar face at St. Mary's since his mother lived here several years ago. Although, we don't see him as often as we did when he lived in Chicago, it's such a blessing for us when he can visit.

Since the beginning of our congregation, we have held a devotion to the humble and quiet saint. During his homily on March 1 9th, Bishop Callahan shared one of the many stories of St. Joseph interceding on our behalf. He recounted one of his favorites which was when we needed serval dozen donuts for an upcoming breakfast event so one of the Sisters clipped out a picture of a donut (which some how got cut in half) from a magazine. Placing it underneath his statue, as a visual reminder for us, as we prayed for this unusual petition. A few days later, we got a call from a bakery with a strange offer, the owner had several dozen donuts to give away that had been mistakenly cut in half. The Sisters cheerfully accepted the gift. This anecdote was a reminder of how God genu-inely cares for us and our needs and not to mention has a sense of humor!

Lent is a time for prayer, fasting and almsgiving. It was with this spirit that our Residents selected Feed the Children for their quar-terly fundraiser. One of our talented residents Helen L. made her famous potato salad; and along with a few others served a delicious homemade meal.

Our community will be praying that the miracle of Easter will bring you love, joy and happiness to last a lifetime.

May God bless you, Sr. Maria Guadalupe, l.s.p.

No goods or services were received in exchange for this gift.

MEN'S RETREAT -

MAY 19, 2018

BE HOLY AS I, THE LORD YOUR GOD, AM HOLY! This retreat focuses on topics that are relevant to men, our families, our faith and our daily lives. Our present culture tries to make us con-firm to a life that worships false Gods, false goals, false expectations, different aspirations, the secular world wants us to change our beliefs, our faith and adapt to a worldly, secular lifestyle that is self-centered and self-absorbed. Our God calls us to holiness, to live in a way that challenges the val-ues and beliefs of our culture. This retreat will attempt to suggest ways to live our Catholic faith. The retreat speakers are Fr. Britto Berchmans (St. Paul of the Cross Church) and Deacon Jim Ernst (Our Lady of Hope Church). Check in at B:45 a.m. and programs starts at 9 a.m. The cost is S25 that includes coffee and pastries in the morning and lunch. Walter Pukszta

Donated by: Barbara For the e week of May 13, 2018.

Susan B. Anthony once said: "Guilty? Yes. No mat-ter what the motive, love of ease or a desire to save from suffering the unborn innocent, the woman is aw-fully guilty who commits the deed. It will burden her conscience in life, it will burden her soul in death; but oh, thrice guilty is he who drove her to the despera-tion which impelled her to the crime!" Let us continue to pray daily: “Jesus, May and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion” Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.

Don’t forget to pick up a bulletin for your children before mass, they can be found in the back of the church. Children, feel free to use the bulletin to color during mass and take home with you. We hope your family experiences Jesus!

WE PRAY TOGETHER Did you know that the lyrics of our hymns and songs are

actually beautiful prayers selected specifically for that Mass? That makes our hymnal your prayer book! If you are self-conscious about singing, participate by opening the hymnal and praying the text of the hymn as others sing. The Church encourages our full and active participation in the Holy Mass. When you sing, you encourage others to do the same. Please use the hymnal!
