First Reading: Isaiah 55:10-11 Just as the rain and snow water the earth and make it fruitful, so does the word of God bring forth good seed. Second Reading: Romans 8:18-23 Reminding all that the trials and sufferings of this life are “as nothing” Paul says that the glory we shall re-ceive will overshadow all things. Gospel: Matthew 13:1-23 Jesus tells the parable of the sower and the seed. The seed that landed on the footpath, on rocky ground, or among thorns withered and died; the seed that fell on good ground -“the man who hears the message and takes it in” ... “bears a yield of a hundred-fold.”

Prime timers news

Looking for ways to help? The world may feel crazy right now, and many may feel lost in this time of isolation. Our prayer during this time is that we can, as a parish family of faith, band together in hope and in love by our actions and our words. We pray for a swift end to COVID-19, for the safety and health of our community, and for a renewed appreciation for all we may take for granted. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance (meals, someone to pray with, pick up prescriptions, grocer-ies, etc.), we have parishioners who are able and willing to help. If you are a parishioner who is able to help those in need during this period of isolation (to make and/or deliver meals, to pick up prescriptions, groceries, or to pray with someone over the phone)! Please contact Arlene Seeber by email at [email protected] or call 484.794.8027 if you need assistance or can offer assistance.

Are you interested in getting involved in

community service? If you have a background

in teaching/education and are looking to get

involved in a volunteer activity, we invite you to

consider being an ESL (English as a Second Lan-

guage) or GED (General Education Develop-

ment) class instructor for adult students at the

Mother Veronica Resource Center. The GED in-

struction would involve teaching reading and

writing skills; for example, reading comprehen-

sion. Materials needed for instruction are

provided. The Center is located at 449 S. 6th

Street in Reading, adjacent to SS. Cyril & Metho-

dius Church at 6th and Laurel Streets. Classes are

offered two days a week, either Monday and

Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, for an

hour-and-a-half. Morning and evening positions

are available. Classes for the 2020-2021 year are

scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 8,

2020 and end on Thursday, June 3, 2021. There

is time off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and East-

er. We ask that you volunteer for at least one se-

mester – September-mid-December or January to

the first week of June. If you are open to consid-

ering this opportunity, please contact Sister Cara

Garofalo at

[email protected] or at 484.706.3570

to schedule an appointment to visit the Center

and learn more about the opportunities available.

Annual Church Picnic In the best interest of health and safety the Mohnton borough has cancelled all activities for 2020 at the Mohnton Playground, so we will not be having our annual picnic this year in September as previously scheduled. - The Picnic Committee .

SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED Even though it seems that summer has just started, the pantry is already preparing to assist students

when they return to classes in the fall. This year, we are asking for donations of school sup-plies for distribution to students within the Governor Mifflin School District. Due to the Covid-19 pandem-ic, we have over 160 students that we are assisting. Below is a wish list of the most needed items to help our youngsters get off to a good start.

*Back Packs *Binders (Heavy Duty - 3 inch) *2 pocket folders *Calculators *Subject dividers *Spiral notebooks *Highlighters *Pencils and pens *Colored pencils *Markers *Crayons *Glue Sticks or bottles *Erasers (large pink ones and pencil toppers)

Donations may be left at any church entrance from now through August 9th, 2020. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated and may be placed in the collection basket in an envelope marked "school supplies". Thank you, once again for your continued generosity! Please contact Kate Roché at 610.777.4792 with any questions or for information about volunteering.

The inventory in food pantries and the

baby supplies (diapers, clothes, formula

etc.) of Catholic Charities in Berks County is

in desperate need of replenishment.

Unfortunately, with the current economic

circumstances more local people than

ever are in need. To alleviate this situation

we will be running a collection for non-

perishable food and Baby / infant

goods. We are asking you to help Catholic

Charities help those who are in great need!

All Masses on July 25 & 26 will have collec-

tion boxes at the exits for your donations of

non-perishable food and new (or gently

used) baby supplies….feel free to donate

however you are moved. The more we

can provide to Catholic Charities the more

families that will be helped.
