In the Archdiocese of New Orleans, we have declared 2021 as a Year of the Eucharist and St. Joseph. For months, we have been preparing materials for the Year of the Eucharist and very recently Pope Francis proclaimed 2021 a year to honor St. Joseph. After consultation with the Presbyterian Council we have combined the two observances. As we receive information from the Vatican on the St. Joseph observance we will make those available to you and provide opportunities to honor St. Joseph.

The reason for 2021 being dedicated to the Eucharist is to help all of us grow in our relationship with Christ and learn more about:

- The meaning of the parts of the Mass - The theology of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist - The obligation we have as Catholics to participate in Mass on Sunday Please be assured of my prayers for you as the pandemic continues. This year has been very challenging and we will be glad to welcome 2021!

2020--LIVING REMEMBRANCE CHRISTMAS TREE The Altar Society will once again be selling ornaments for the Living Remembrance Christmas Tree. This is a great way to remember Living or Deceased family and friends. The money collected is used to purchase cleaning supplies used by the Altar Society and for church expenses. The price is the same: $5 for single name - 10 for two names (exp: Mr & Mrs Smith) - $10 for one family (The Smith Family)

Selling of ornaments will be handled differently due to Covid 19: Forms to request an ornament will be located by eachdoor. Complete form and include your name and phone num-ber in case we need to contact you regarding spelling of name or to get the announcement card to you. Put the com-pleted form with the correct amount of cash or check to cover the number of ornaments reques ng into an envelope marked: Living Remembrance Tree. Put the envelope in the collec on basket or bring to parish office. The Altar Socie-ty members will make the ornaments and hang on the tree. If you need a mass card, please include the number of cards needed. Someone from the Altar Society will contact you and let you know where to pick-up the card (s) you need. These precau ons are needed to prevent mul ple people handling pens & money. This also prevents the need for crowds wai ng around the table trying to purchase ornaments.

ARBOL NAVIDEÑO DEL RECUERDO VIVIENTE 2020

La Sociedad del Altar volverá a vender adornos para el Árbol de Navidad del Recuerdo Viviente. Esta es una excelente manera de recordar a familiares y amigos vivos o fallecidos. El dinero recaudado se utiliza

para comprar artículos de limpieza y otros gastos de la iglesia.

El costo es el mismo: $5.00 por un solo nombre. $10.00 por dos nombres (ej: Sr. José y Sra. María Hernández) $10.00 por una familia (ej: Familia Hernández)

La venta de adornos se manejará de manera diferente debido a Covid 19. Los formulalrios para solicitar un adorno estarán ubicados en cada Puerta. Complete el formulario e incluya su nombre y número de te-léfono en caso de que necesitemos comunicarnos con usted con respecto a la ortografía del nombre o para entregarle la tarjeta. Coloque el formulario completo con la cantidad correcta de efectivo o cheque para cu-brir la cantidad de adornos solicitados en un sobre marcado: Árbol Navideño del Recuerdo Viviente. Después coloque el sobre en la canasta de colección o llévelo a la oficina parroquial. Los miembros de la So-ciedad del Altar harán los adornos y los colgarán en el árbol. Si necesita una tarjeta incluya el número de tarjetas necesarias. Alguien de la Sociedad del Altar se comunicará con usted y le informará donde recoger la tarjeta.

Estas precauciones son necesarias para evitar que varias personas manipulen bolígrafos y dinero. Así se evita multitudes esperando alrededor de la mesa tratando de comprar adornos o recoger sus tarjetas.

En la Arquidiócesis de Nueva Orleans, hemos declarado el 2021 como año de la Eucaristía y San José.

Durante meses, hemos estado preparando materiales para el año de la Eucaristía y muy recientemente, el Papa Francisco proclamó el 2021 como un año para honrar a San José. Después de consultar con el Consejo Presbiterial, hemos combinado las dos celebraciones. A medida que recibamos información del Vaticano sobre la observancia de San José, los pondremos a su disposición y le brindaremos oportuni-dades para honrar a San José.

La razón por la que 2021 está dedicado a la Eucaristía es para ayudarnos a todos a crecer en nuestra relación con Cristo y aprender mas sobre:

-El significado de las partes de la Misa. -La teología de la presencia real de Cristo en la Eucaristía. -La obligación que tenemos como católicos de participar en la Misa del domingo.

LOOKING AGAIN

Luke says that Mary “was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.” She

asks, “How can this be?” These questions don’t fit with how Fra Angelico positioned Gabriel and Mary. In the Vi-vas illustrations, the Angel Gabriel sits down with battered

wings and a balding head and has a cup of coffee with Mary as the two of them try to figure it out together. The

text is the same, but the message conveyed is different. There is a different degree of comfort and familiarity to

these illustrations. This “having a cup of coffee” is something we need to learn

to do with the scriptures and with our lives. After this event, pregnant Mary traveled into the hill country to be

with Elizabeth; an older, wiser, mentor—a mother figure. She spent three months there reflecting and preparing for the birth of her child. In this final week of Advent, take a

few moments to find a Gabriel/Mary or an Elizabeth/Mary moment and read the Christmas readings again to see what

you might have overlooked, and to find a new way for Christ to dwell in you.

A CLASSIC IMAGE When we think of today’s Gospel, the image of this meeting

between the Angel Gabriel and Mary by Fra Angelico (1440–1445) likely comes to mind. In this fresco, Gabriel

and Mary are outside sitting among the columns, and Ga-briel, with his big wings and hands crossed, gazes upon Mary and gestures towards her. She is well dressed in a

traditional blue garment, and though her face shows shock, her folded hands model submission and humility. This

work of art is so beautifully executed that we can miss some of its finer details. Similarly, because the Gospel scene is so

familiar, we can forget to take in its small details. A few years ago, this author found a children’s book called “The Nativity” illustrated by Julie Vivas. Because her drawings were so fresh and charming and simple, she invited new

perspective on the story.

UNA IMAGEN CLÁSICA Cuando pensamos en el Evangelio de hoy, probablemente

podemos imaginar la pintura de esta reunión entre el ángel Gabriel y María que hizo Fra Angelico (1440-1445). En ese fresco, Gabriel y María están afuera y sentados en medio de las columnas, y Gabriel, con sus grandes alas y manos cruzadas, contemplando a María y haciendo gestos hacia

ella. Ella está bien vestida en un ropaje tradicional de color azul y aunque su rostro muestra conmoción, sus manos

cruzadas modelan sumisión y humildad. Esta obra de arte está tan bellamente ejecutada que podemos desapercibir

algunos de sus más finos detalles. Del mismo modo, porque la escena del Evangelio es tan familiar, podemos olvidarnos de los pequeños detalles. Hace unos años, este autor encon-tró un libro para niños titulado “La Navidad” que fue ilus-

trado por Julie Vivas. Debido a que sus dibujos eran tan frescos, encantadores y simples, convidaba una perspectiva

nueva en la historia.

VOLVER A MIRAR Lucas dice que María “estaba muy preocupada por lo que

se le dijo y se preguntaba que tipo de saludo podría ser ese”. Ella preguntó: “¿cómo puede ser esto posible?” Estas preguntas no concuerdan como Fra Angelico puso a Gabri-el y María. En las ilustraciones de Vivas, el ángel Gabriel

sentado con las alas maltratadas, cabeza calva, está toman-do una taza de café con María mientras los dos juntos tra-

tan de resolverlo. El texto es el mismo, pero el mensaje transmitido es diferente. Hay un grado diferente de co-

modidad y familiaridad en estas ilustraciones. Este “tomando café” es algo que tenemos que aprender a hacer con las escrituras y con nuestras vidas. Después de

este evento, María embarazada viajó a las colinas para es-tar con Isabel, una mentora sabia y anciana, la figura de

una madre. Ella pasó tres meses ahí reflexionando y prepa-rándose para el nacimiento de su hijo. En esta última sema-na de Adviento, dedica unos momentos para encontrar un momento Gabriel y María o momento Elizabeth y María y

lee las lecturas de Navidad de nuevo para ver lo que po-drías haber pasado por alto, y para encontrar una nueva

forma de que Cristo habite en ti.
