ST. JANE FRANCES DE CHANTAL CHURCH APRIL 5, 2020 EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA
My Dear Parishioners,
I’m sure that to many of us, the world seems to have turned upside down. Holy Week and Easter are upon us. At this holiest time of the year, we find ourselves unable to come together to celebrate the central aspect of our faith – the fact that Jesus suffered and died for us and rose from the dead to bring us the gift of new life.
These celebrations will have to take place in our own homes. Our prayers need to be offered individual-ly. Although you are unable to be touched by the Lord in his Sacraments, you know that he is still present in your hearts. I encourage you to do what you can in your own private life of prayer and devotion to make this season a time of grace and renewal!
Let me summarize our situation here at St. Jane:
1.) We will continue to provide materials for your personal spiritual enrichment on our parish website.
2.) We will live-stream and record our Mass here at St. Jane both on Palm Sunday and Easter.
3.) Our priests will continue to celebrate Mass daily, remembering your intentions.
4.) Individual confessions can be scheduled by calling one of our priests. 610-253-3553. Msgr. Radocha ext. 319, Father John ext. 316, or Father Ezaki ext. 325. Expect to meet your confessor either in the chapel or in the cry room and observe appropriate distancing.
5.) Our Parish office remains closed. Individual priests may still be contacted by phone. We want to be available to you!! (Most of our parish staff have, unfortunately, been temporarily laid off.)
6.) Church doors will continue to be open at 12 Noon and closed at 3 PM every day. This includes Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday. If you do come, please maintain so-cial distancing and wear a mask, as Governor Wolf said about public places!!
7.) Unfortunately, we have been directed not to distribute Palms on Palm Sunday for the safety of all.
8.) On Holy Thursday evening, our priests will celebrate privately the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. This year there will be no reception of the Holy Oils, no Washing of the Feet, and no procession to a repository in the chapel. Following the Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be placed in the tabernacle. The Church doors will remain open 8 PM – 11 PM for private adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Please practice social distancing and do not congregate!
9.) On Good Friday, the Church will remain open 12 Noon – 3 PM. The priests will celebrate the Good Fri-day Liturgy in private.
10.) The Easter Vigil Liturgy, in much shortened form, will be celebrated privately. There will be no lighting of the Easter fire, no liturgy of Baptism or receptions into the Church.
11.) The first Mass of Easter morning will be celebrated at 7:30 AM on Easter Sunday, April 12. It will be live-streamed and recorded for viewing on Easter Sunday. The doors of the Church will be open 12 Noon – 3 PM.
12.) Funerals, Weddings and Baptisms may be celebrated, but with immediate family only. (no more than ten people.)
13.) We offer our gratitude to those who continue to drop off contributions or send via mail, or who contribute electronically through our parish website. (Just hit "Donate" and follow directions.) We continue to need your contributions for the day-to-day operation of the parish! Our Easter collection has always been one of the most important sources of income. I know that many of you have been affected at this time. But I do ask that please be generous, as it is especially needed at this time!
Please know that each of you are in my prayers at this difficult time as we celebrate Holy Week and Easter apart from one another. Please remember that we can never be apart from our Lord who continues to offer us his mercy and his grace, and who continues to dwell within us through his Holy Spirit. May you have a blessed Holy Week and Easter!!!
Sincerely yours,
Monsignor Radocha

Update on Palms:
Bishop Schlert, in union with all of our neigh-boring Dioceses (Philadelphia, Scranton, Har-risburg, and Metuchen) and in an effort to pre-vent the spread of Covid-19, asks that the distribution of palms on Palm Sunday be discontinued. While time honored and appreciated by many members of the faith-ful, the distribution of palms in any way risks the unnecessary spread of the coro-navirus. If one person who has the corona-virus even touches some of the palms which someone else will take, the risk of spread could impact potentially others who will receive them. The risk is too high as infectious dis-ease doctors are telling us that the virus is very contagious. The Church certainly does not want to be the one who endangers the lives of others, especially our elderly who would want so much to take part in this Sacramental.
Announcement regarding Confessions:
Because of the rapid spike in the number of diagnosed Covid-19 cases in our area, and the importance of following the "stay at home" or-der, we will no longer be scheduling times for the Sacrament of Penance.
If you would like to go to confession, please contact one of our priests individually at 610-253-3553. Msgr. Radocha ext. 74, Father John ext. 73, or Father Ezaki ext. 72.
We offer the guidance of our Holy Father, Pope Francis on this matter: https://cruxnow.com/vatican/2020/03/if-you-cant-go-to-confession-take-your-sorrow-directly-to-god-pope-says/?fbclid=IwAR0SHSRLk8B7LZdsqD-8VCxrPQMEJjUl2EuEn4UcKda00Shouy-liXNp4-GU

Prayer
Jesus, I trust in You!
A prayer during epidemic Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villag-es “curing every disease and illness.” At your com-mand, the sick were made well. Come to our
aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love. Heal those who are sick with the virus. May they regain their strength and health through quality medical care. Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working together and neighbors from helping one another. Heal us from our pride, which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders .Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow. Be with those who have died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in your eternal peace. Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. May they know your peace! Be with the doc-tors, nurses, researchers and all medical pro-fessionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process. May they know your protection and peace! Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve. Give them the wis-dom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks. May they know your peace, as they work to-gether to achieve it on earth. Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ, stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace. Jesus Christ, heal us. Amen!

Academic Excellence in Spanish Classes! Expanding Horizons with Spanish: Teaching Spanish to students from Pre-K through 8
th grade is no easy task, but the student engagement at
St. Jane School is outstanding. Our goal is to introduce students to a second language in a fun, engaging manner that allows them to learn through song, games and traditional teaching meth-ods. We live in a global, multilingual world and, exposing the students to a new language and highlighting cultural differences will ultimately help young people navigate the cultural diversity present in the communities where they live today and in the future.
Our pre-kindergarteners, kindergarteners and first graders are learning Spanish through song, while the second and third graders are working to spell their colors, numbers, and days of the week. The fourth and fifth graders are learning the concepts of yesterday, today and tomorrow, and are expanding their vocabulary by playing Spanish Vocab Bingo in class. Our sixth, seventh and eighth graders have been introduced to the book series Bizcocho, also known as Biscuit, as they are challenged to read aloud in class to build confidence in speaking a second language.
At St. Jane School, we know that Spanish is more than learning a foreign language and embrac-ing cultural diversity. We recognize that prayer and song are an integral part of the Catholic faith. Therefore, all students at St. Jane’s are learning the Hail Mary and the Our Father in Spanish as well as the chorus to songs like Lord, You Have Come/Pescador de Hombres that are then sung on occasion at Mass during the week.
