The Third Sunday of Easter April 26, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ On this third week of Easter, we witness through the Sunday readings how Jesus walks alongside

two downcast disciples who did not recognize him. Within the Eucharistic Liturgy, we meet the risen Lord in word of God and in the breaking of the bread. This encounter with the Lord is meant to make our own hearts burn with joy and love of the gospel. We are called to share the love with have with the world.

All St. Hyacinth Public Masses and Church activities have been suspended until further notice due to the Coronavirus. Complying with the "Shelter at Home" order of County Judge Lina Hidalgo, the Archdiocese has requested all churches to be completely closed through May 4, 2020. This will pertain to all St. Hyacinth’s facilities, including our chapel, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

All St. Hyacinth Special Masses for First communion have been canceled for the month of May. These first communion Masses will be reschedule for the future, time to be announced.

STHY is blessed to have an incredible amount of faithful people that are part of our Liturgy for the Easter season: Altar servers, acolytes, readers, singers, musicians, cantors and all contribute to making the Easter Liturgy on line possible for our parish.

During this pandemic we have been challenged with our faith, I would challenge everyone to take some time to learn more about their faith during our time away. I will encourage you to use FORMED.org in which we have provided the password to every parishioner.

There are two studies on FORMED.org for Easter, that I am challenging everyone to be a part of. The first is The Search. What is this journey in between the event we call “birth” and the one we call “death”? Is the journey taking you somewhere, or are you leading yourself to some kind of destination – a destination that could extend beyond your last breath? What do you want from your life during the in between? The questions are there. And, the answers are, too.

The second study is called: Divine Mercy with Fr. Michael Gaitley. Renowned speaker and au-thor, Fr. Michael Gaitley, tells the dramatic history of God's love and mercy as interwoven through the transformative message of St. Faustina, the miraculous appearance of Mary at Fatima, the witness of Maximilian Kolbe and the world-changing papacy of Pope St. John Paul II. Featuring the brilliant cinematic artistry of the Augustine Institute's film studio, the vast panorama of God's work of mercy in the world unfolds as a story to be experienced. Our parish Password to FORMED.org is 77GVZ3.

We will continue to do our best to provide the faithful of STHY with a video of the Sunday Masses. Soo, please go ahead and subscribe to our St. Hyacinth YouTube channel for videos and live stream updates. All Liturgies will be posted to our parish website, Sthyacinth.org, as well.

With the coronavirus affected every aspect of the Church, I want to challenge everyone to continue to support the Church during this time. I ask the faithful to continue to support the St. Hyacinth community through on-line giving or by mail. This will ensure that our parish will be able to meet payrolls and pay monthly bills. Go to the online giving tab at Sthyacinth.org and either enroll online at www.faithdirect.net. Our Church Code is TX526, or give online through PayPal, Text to Give or simply mail in your contribution to the Church. Thank you for your support.

God Bless, Fr. Reginald Samuels

Third Sunday of Easter - April 26, 2020

Reading 1 Acts 2:14, 22–23 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed: “You who are Jews, indeed all of you staying in Jerusalem. Let this be known to you, and listen to my words. You who are Israelites, hear these words. Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you by God with mighty deeds, wonders, and signs, which God worked through him in your midst, as you yourselves know. This man, delivered up by the set plan and foreknowledge of God, you killed, using lawless men to crucify him. But God raised him up, releasing him from the throes of death, because it was impossible for him to be held by it. For David says of him: I saw the Lord ever before me, with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed. Therefore my heart has been glad and my tongue has exulted; my flesh, too, will dwell in hope, because you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld, nor will you suffer your holy one to see corruption. You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. “My brothers, one can confidently say to you about the patriarch David that he died and was buried, and his tomb is in our midst to this day. But since he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne, he foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he abandoned to the netherworld nor did his flesh see corruption. God raised this Jesus; of this we are all witnesses. Exalted at the right hand of God, he received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father and poured him forth, as you see and hear.” Responsorial Psalm Ps 16:1–2, 5, 7–8, 9–10, 11 R. (11a) Lord, you will show us the path of life. Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge; I say to the LORD, “My Lord are you.” O LORD, my allotted portion and my cup, you it is who hold fast my lot. R. Lord, you will show us the path of life. I bless the LORD who counsels me; even in the night my heart exhorts me. I set the LORD ever before me; with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed. R. Lord, you will show us the path of life. Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices, my body, too, abides in confidence; because you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld, nor will you suffer your faithful one to undergo corruption. R. Lord, you will show us the path of life. You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in your presence, the delights at your right hand forever. R. Lord, you will show us the path of life.

Reading 2 1 Pt 1:17–21 Beloved: If you invoke as Father him who judges impartially according to each one’s works, conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your sojourning, realizing that you were ransomed from your futile conduct, handed on by your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold but with the precious blood of Christ as of a spotless unblemished lamb. He was known before the foundation of the world but revealed in the final time for you, who through him believe in God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. Gospel Lk 24:13–35 That very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus’ disciples were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus, and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred. And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. He asked them, “What are you discussing as you walk along?” They stopped, looking downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, said to him in reply, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know of the things that have taken place there in these days?” And he replied to them, “What sort of things?” They said to him, “The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death and crucified him. But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third day since this took place. Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body; they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive. Then some of those with us went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described, but him they did not see.” And he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them what referred to him in all the Scriptures. As they approached the village to which they were going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther. But they urged him, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them. And it hap-pened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?” So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together the eleven and those with them who were saying, “The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!” Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of bread.

STAY WITH US, LORD Walk with us, Lord, along the road of resurrection! Explain for us, so slow to believe, the things that

Scripture says of you. Break the bread of the Eucharist with us whenever we share our lives with our brothers and sisters.

Stay with us each time night approaches and the daylight fades in our hearts!

Did you know that Catholics can make

an Act of Spiritual Communion?

(Source: Archdiocese of Detroit) - It has

long been a Catholic understanding that

when circumstances prevent one from re-

ceiving Holy Communion, it is possible to

make an Act of Spiritual Communion

which is a source of grace. Spiritual

Communion means uniting self in prayer

with Christ’s sacrifice and worshiping

Him in His Body and Blood.

When unable to receive Holy

Communion, pray the prayer below:

A prayer for Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that you are present

in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love you above all things and I desire to

receive you in my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive

you sacramentally, come at least spiritu-

ally into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already

there and unite myself wholly to you.

Never permit me to be separated from

you. Amen.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.”

St. John 14:1

PRAYER IN A TIME OF PANDEMIC O God of compassion,

your people are anxious in this time of pandemic.

Send your Holy Spirit among us to dispel our fears.

We cry out to you in our confusion; comfort us in our affliction.

Grant our leaders wisdom to guide us. Strengthen and sustain those who are ill,

and be with those who care for them. Help us to travel this road

in solidarity with our neighbors, with our eyes fixed on the salvation

promised us through the death and resurrection of your Son,

who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.

Novena of Confidence to the Sacred Heart of Jesus O Lord Jesus Christ, To Thy most Sacred Heart, I confide this intention: (mention your intention here) Only look upon me, and then do what Thy Sacred Heart inspires. Let Thy Sacred Heart decide; I count on it, I trust in it. I throw myself on Its mercy, Lord Jesus! Thy will not fail me. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in Thee. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Thy love for me. Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy Kingdom come. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I have asked Thee for many favors, But I earnestly implore this one. Take it. Place it in Thy open, broken Heart; And, when the Eternal Father looks upon It, Covered with Thy Precious Blood, He will not refuse it. It will be no longer my prayer, but Thine, O Jesus. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in Thee. Let me never be confounded. Amen.
