Dear Parishioners,
Revised Mass Schedule at St. Helen Parish
As you perhaps already know, the shortage
of priests is reaching a crisis point in the Church.
To add to the crisis, Archdiocesan data shows
that there is a 21 percent drop in church attend-
ance across the archdiocese. As a result some par-
ish communities have been combined with others.
Parishes like ours have been compelled to share a
pastor with another parish and some have had to
make serious adjustments to their worship sched-
ule.
At St. Helen Parish the shortage of priests,
combined with falling attendance, presents an op-
portunity now for us to be creative about address-
ing the crisis without affecting our valued and
necessary presence in the Riverside community.
It is time for St. Helen to address the issue. After
discussion with the parish staff and parish pasto-
ral council members, St. Helen parish will adopt
the following Mass schedule beginning the week-
end of May 9-10, 2020:
Saturday – 4 pm Confessions, 5pm Mass
Sunday – 9 am Mass
The rationale for the change in the Sunday
morning schedule is that it will allow the pastor
to be at both St. Helen and Immaculate Concep-
tion Parishes on the same day. This would make
consistency in celebrations a possibility. It also
will accommodate parishioners who attended the
8 am and 10:30 am Masses to make changes
without creating major inconveniences.
As a result of the change, Parish Religious
Education classes and RCIA sessions will be of-
fered after the Mass at 10:15 am.
Change is always hard and unsettling, and
I am sure modifications like these will not be
easy on everybody. We offer them in hope, how-
ever, and thank you for your understanding and
your commitment to St. Helen Parish.
Sincerely,
Fr. Satish Joseph
Pastor

ATTENTION:
ALL LITURGICAL MINISTERS In light of the upcoming changes in our
Mass schedule, Mary will be in touch with all liturgi-
cal ministers to work through the coming changes and
your availability for a 9 a.m. Mass. Combining our
Sunday services into one Mass will give us a greater
pool of people to schedule. Watch for emails and for
gatherings for the various ministries so we can plan in
the most effective way.
All of you play such a vital role in our litur-
gies, and the parish is grateful for your dedication and
service!
