ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI PARISH TRIANGLE, VIRGINIA FEBRUARY 10, 2019

It is that time of the year again when the annual Bishop’s Lenten Appeal will take place.

The purpose of this appeal is to support the many programs of the diocese including the very important work of Catholic Charities, i.e. free medical clinics, counseling services, outreach programs for the poor, etc.

This year we are especially grateful to Catholic Charities and the Diocese for assigning a psychological counselor to our parish, for the first time.

I believe it is important to make clear that the Bishop’s Lenten appeal is about raising money for the programs of this diocese and has absolutely no connection to any other diocese in the United States.

I say this because much has been written in the news recently about Sexual abuse cases involving clergy in other diocese. It is important to note that none of the funds raised (your donations) will, in any way, go toward settlement in those cases, or any cases involving clergy.

Our parish has met or exceeded its Lenten Appeal goal these past few years. Let’s be as successful again this year!

More information will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.

Sincerely,

Fr. John O’Connor, O.F.M.

Boletín Semanal

The Annual Scholarship Drive for students in our Sister Parish of Santa Ana in Lima, Peru has now started. This year we have 43 students who need our help. As the years have passed, it is clear that the situation there is improving as so many students now need only a partial scholarship. The tuition costs will range from $125-600 for the year. So that more of you can take part, we will be splitting some students' scholarships among 2 or 3 donors. Please be aware of this as you choose the student you wish to sponsor. Meaning if you want to sponsor one child (and not share with another donor) you may need to pull an additional envelope from the display. As in the past years, we ask that you choose a child, remove the envelope (or envelopes) with their name and sign the sheet provided. Please return the envelope with your check (made payable to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, with ‘Lima Peru-Scholarship Drive in the memo section) before February 24th to the “Catch-All Slot”. Thank you for your continued generosity to the people of Santa Ana. They really appreciate your financial help and the knowledge that we are true brothers and sisters.

Join the Care for Creation Ministry on Sunday, February 10th at 10:00 a.m. in the Catherine Room. We will continue the “Understanding Laudato Si” video series done by Fr. Lenten Small Faith Groups

Please join in the largest Adult Faith program of the year by hosting a few friends, family and neighbors into your home for an hour a week during Lent. Each year, hundreds of St. Francis of Assisi parishioners enrich their spiritual life at this sacred time

by participating in small faith groups. The 4—10 person groups meet in Host homes, beginning the week of March 3rd, as part of a six-week study. This year, we will consider and discuss the booklet, “Believe: Meeting Jesus In The Scriptures” from The Evangelical Catholic. Hosts are instrumental to the program’s success, and it is easy to be a Host. All you need is an open heart to invite people you already know into your home for approximately an hour a week, on a day and time that best fits your schedule. Each registered Host receives a free guide book which contains every prayer, scripture passage, reflection and discussion question. There is no training required, and it is completely up to each Host as to who to invite and when to meet. To register as a Host, receive your free copy of the guide book and learn more about the program, please visit www.stfrncis.org/small-groups or please contact Lisa Ostendorf [email protected] with any questions.
