Easter Sun.

Pastor’s Corner

Happy Easter! This is the greatest day of the year because we celebrate the Lord’s resurrection and triumph over death and sin. Through the power of Christ’s death and resurrection we are saved from the consequences of sin, which is spiritual death. Sin cuts us off from God, Grace restores us to God. Easter is the ultimate revelation of God’s love in making our salvation possible. As sinful humans, we could not make up for the offense against God by humanity. Only a God-Man could accomplish this, and only if He were perfectly obedient to the Father’s will by suffering and dying for us out of Love. This past Holy Week we have been remembering how much Jesus did for us. Now we remember the Grace He won for us. All we have to do is turn away from sin and accept it! We celebrate Easter every day during the Octave of Easter, which is why no other church celebrations occur during this week. And during this week, actually beginning on Good Friday, we are encouraged to pray the novena of Divine Mercy. Pope John Paul II recommended this devotion in 2000 when he named the Sunday after Easter Divine Mercy Sunday. As we celebrate the Lord’s love for us in the Resurrection, let us also take the time to pray for those whose souls are most in need of God’s mercy. As we have mentioned before, one of the great mysteries is that God often chooses to restrict His mercy to the extent that we, both individually and collectively as the Body of Christ on earth, cooperate with it. God relies on our prayers to help save each other. The trust He has in us is truly unbelievable!

We wish you a blessed and holy Easter Season as we grow in our love of neighbor through our

prayers. Amen!

From Fr. Frank, the Staff, and Volunteers of St. Francis of Assisi

This is the day the Lord has made;

let us be glad and rejoice in it!

Religious Ed. Continued It’s time for a new challenge – this year let’s be POSITIVE! At the end of each day take a few minutes to think about your blessings, and give God thanks for something. We had a wonderful Easter gift. JESUS!

TILLIE & MAIZEY – Finding Easter jelly beans and chocolate eggs were on top of Tillie’s list of favorite things to do. After what seemed like the longest time of giving up candy for Lent, now Tillie could eat all the candy her heart desired! She filled her Easter basket with lots of chocolate. Mmmm! As the family and their guests gathered for a very festive dinner they stood in a circle to pray. Tillie’s Dad began the prayer by retelling the gospel reading from Mass. He didn’t read it, he told it, just as if he knew it by heart. As Dad was praying Tillie was listening; but her mind wandered off. How very strange it must have been for Mary and the other women when they arrived at the tomb. EMPTY! Who moved that great big rock? Who helped him get out? It must h a v e b e e n s o m e o n e v e r y s t r o n g ! “Alleluia! He has risen,” Dad said. Risen? Where could he have gone? Tillie couldn’t quite figure that one out. She would have to ask Dad about all these things.

RE CHALLENGE: What would you have done if you had found the tomb empty?

HALO AWARD – Kids who wore crazy hats. Thanks for being part of the fun.

RE Registration for Fall Classes – It’s time to register for next year’s classes! Registration is now open to registered parishioners thru July 1. Non-parishioners may register after that time. Classes fill quickly; and we have a limited number of spaces available, so don’t be disappointed! A Baptism Certificate is required for a Sacramental Class.

RE CALENDAR: April 18/19 – CLASSES – Wear crazy mixed up patterns

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – JULY 17-21 – Mark your calendar for a fun time at Maker Fun Factory! STEWARDSHIP – it’s about FAITH – Did you know that God specifically asks us for an offering from our first fruits? Why would he ask us that? When you come to church, are you prepared to give your best? Ask your children, they’ll tell you. We invite all children & teens to be good stewards and use the Children’s Stewardship Envelopes located in the display underneath the bulletins. Why would you not want to use them? Money from the Children’s Offering Envelopes goes for the Building Fund. Thank you for your stewardship in building our future! We can’t build it without you!

TODAY’S SMILE: What’s the Easter Bunny’s favorite state capital? Albunny, New York.

CATHOLIC RADIO KRCN – 1060 am – “Change your station, change your life.” Topic on “Take 2 With Jerry & Debbie” was, ‘Taking a Look at the Ten Commandments.’ Good stuff.

CHILDREN WHO HAVE NOT BEEN INSTRUCTED; AND NOT RECEIVED THEIR FIRST COMMUNION – SHOULD NOT PARTAKE OF COMMUNION AT MASS!!

Join Us on Divine Mercy Sunday

From the diary of a young Polish nun, a special devotion began spreading throughout the world in the 1930s. The message is a reminder of what the Church has always taught through scripture and tradition: that God is merciful and forgiving. In the Divine Mercy devotion, the message takes on a powerful new focus, calling people to a deeper understanding that God’s merciful love is unlimited and available to everyone — especially the greatest sinners. St. John Paul II was drawn particularly to the divine mercy message,

and in the year 2000 added the Divine Mercy as a feast day for the world-wide Church on the Sunday after Easter. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy may be said at anytime during the year. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy as a Novena (saying a chaplet each day for nine days) is suggested to be prayed especially from Good Friday until Divine Mercy Sunday. Our Lord gave St. Faustina a different intention for each day that He wished to be prayed. “By this Novena [of chaplets, before the Feast of Mercy], I will grant every possible grace to souls” (Diary, 796). Join us on April 23rd at 3:00 pm for Adoration, the Chaplet, and Confessions.

RESTORED ORDER FOR CONFIRMATION – Beginning this year our 5th graders will be included in the Restored Order of Confirmation Step-down Method for receiving Confirmation at a younger age. All children in 5thgrade + those 6th- 12th grades, who have not been confirmed will be Confirmed next Spring.
