Yours in Christ.. Meredith Grove
From Nanettes APC desk:
Catholic Educaon Week will be celebrated across Queensland
next week from July 2127. This year the theme is Making A
Dierence Inspired By Jesus.
Each day at St Francis, we are encouraged to live a life based on
the teachings of Jesus. As teachers, we are privileged to witness
this in encounters with our children. On Monday, I spoke at As-
sembly with the students about some of the dierent iconsaround our school that demonstrate our Chrisan faith. In par-
cular, I spoke about the Mt La Verna area outside our school
oce. This space is named aer Mt La Verna in Assisi where St
Francis would oen retreat to for quiet prayer. Children congre-
gate at our Mt La Verna throughout the lunch me as a quiet
place to be together. Classes also have prayer celebraons in
this space. Yr 6 students have hung their bark painngs from
NAIDOC Week at Mt La Verna and have reected on the story of
our First Australians and the challenges they face as a people
today.
There are other areas in our school that idenfy us as a Catholic
School: the crucix, San Damiano garden, the Tau Cross at Kiss
and Drop. But it is through our children and their compassion for
each other that we truly encounter Jesus. Next week is our
chance to celebrate our MJR moments where Jesus is Made Real
to us.
A highlight of Catholic Educaon Week will be the blessing of
The Hermitage (aka the Wetlands) by Fr Aliki. Please refer to the
yer in this weeks newsleer for further informaon of events
next week. You are most welcome to come and join in our cele-
braons.
There are many people in our school community who are in need
of our prayers at the moment and we
extend our compassion and blessings
to them.
May God who created you from loveand for loveheal and bless you embracing you in the tenderest ofmercies.Amen
Thank you to the wonderful response again we see with
parental involvement at school in so many ways:
Organising events such as our upcoming
Anquitea;
Daily support in classrooms with helping teachers reading
one on one with children etc;
Assisng with Tuckshop; Our wonderful P & F; Our grantscommiee who work hand in hand with the P & F gaining
money through various acvies used to buy incredible re-
sources for our children;
Helping at weekend events such as the celebraon for Holy
Communion;
Creang costumes and props for our whole school musical
Quest ; And parcipang in so many other ways to support
children at school. Our school would not be the same with-
out your contribuons.
Partnerships between home and school is a factor high in
the list of what makes a dierence posively with children'slearning at school.
Oen as I am in various places in the school environment I
see these wonderful quiet achievers and I wish to pass on in
some small way recognion for the invaluable support you
give.
Again , thank you.
Nanee
CHILDREN AT SCHOOL OUTSIDE
STAFF SUPERVISION TIMESSt Francis Sta place the safety and supervision of our
children as the top priority in our professional care. For a variety of reasons children are oen le at school
aer the 3.00pm pick-up me. This should never be a
connuing pracce as there is Duty of Care Supervi-
sion responsibilies the school needs to maintain with
children on-site. If child/children are to be picked up
late or dropped early, a courtesy phone call should be
made to the Oce on each daily occurrence.
Concern from Sta over supervision of children when
parents are at school, parcularly aer school, also
exists. Children should not be le to play unsupervised
on playground equipment or in the under-cover area
for example. The Under-cover area is not an area for
supervision by the Kiss & Drop Teacher aer school.
Their role is to safely place children into cars and bus-
es.
Thank you for your support.

Very Important Information:
If you order via a written brown paper bag, please make sure that you
have the new limited menu . This menu was distributed in the last
week of the 2nd term. If you do not have a new menu please get a copy
from the office or the tuckshop. If you order anything that is not on
this menu, the order will be changed to an item available on the
menu with the same monetary value.
When ordering from tuckshop via a written brown paper bag please
also include the correct money for 1st break and 2nd break as this will
greatly help and reduce the time it takes to stick change on the bags.
To access the full menu you will need to register and
place your order via flexischools.
Students can still buy ice blocks, slush puppies, cold drinks and
certain snacks over the counter.

Premiers Reading Challenge Update
St Francis participates in the annual
Premiers Reading Challenge. Students
have the opportunity to complete the
Challenge at home or at school. Please
see your class newsletter for how
each class is completing the Chal-
lenge. The challenge finishes on Sep-tember the 6th.
Thanks Sharon
Please encourage your children to be vigilant
and see staff members with any concerns at
any time regarding their safety and that oftheir peers. We are very impressed that the
student protection awareness has been so
well received and noted by the children.
This week students saw a man over the
fence, not on our grounds, seemingly watch-
ing their outside activities up in the top area
behind the red pod. The police have come to
investigate the report and will continue to
monitor the area. Children have been re-minded to report any unfamiliar people to a
staff member. As always the children will
move around the school in pairs, never alone.
