COMMUNAL RESPONSIBILITY The people of god forgot the covenant and flouted God’s laws. They did not listen to the prophets among them, who spoke for god in warning them. Prophets are sent from god to remind us why we are here, but they are often, even in our own time, mocked, disregard-ed, and mistreated rather than thanked and listened to. The book of Chronicles tells the results of these sins: the destruction of the temple and all of Jerusalem, murder, mayhem and finally exile to a foreign land. Why are these stories in the bible? Just to inform us of what happened to our ancient forebears? What good would that be unless there were a message and a warning for us as well? Are we people who follow the teachings of God, who obey the words of Christ in the second covenant in his blood? Or do we continue to wreak works of darkness and violence? We are reminded by these readings that we will be judged as a people, not just as individuals.

PCCW NEWS A. PCCW Meeting, Wednesday, March 14 at 9AM in Mumford B. Wednesday, April 18 to Saturday April 21 is Spring Assembly, Cape Girardeau. Appli-

cations due by March 15: call Judy 417-664-2037 for more information if you would like to attend.

C. Sister rose Marie will present a CD reflection every Tuesday during Lent. Start with 8:30am mass and continue by meeting in the Crafty Corner room (102) for the presenta-tion. A wonderful way to add to YOUR Lenten dedication and meditation. You will surely leave each Tuesday in a contemplative frame of mind and ready to take on the week.

D. “The Bible Stories-Jesus”, ( DVD) on Palm Sunday 3PM Mumford bring a dish to share (lasting around 3 hours) . Questions call Judy 417-664-2037.

THE SERPENT’S FAST Everyone knows story of the serpent in the garden from Genesis, and its universal sym-bolism of temptation and evil. But it seems even the serpent has another, more inspiring side. Surprisingly, it has symbolized repentance, reconciliation, and readiness for Eucharist because of the old fable of its forty-day fast before shedding its skin. There is also an old legend that the serpent quenches its thirst only after leaving its venom in its den least it kill itself.
