Thank You! to all 187 of you who took the SFXC Church Transition Survey the weekend of February 22-23. In an ongoing effort to be open and accountable to the whole parish, we’d like to present the results of the survey (the entire results and graphs can be viewed on our parish website – www.stfrancesxcabrinichurch.org – there isn’t enough space in the bulletin).

After your background data, the survey asked, “What is one current parish strength you would like to see maintained by the new leader?” Our strong sense of community and welcome to others were the overwhelming favorites. [Surely all of you will demonstrate that by giving a warm welcome to the new pastor J]

Parishioners also appreciate our good liturgies, the pastoral care they receive, educational and spiritual opportunities, and financial accountability.

The question concerning peoples’ level of concern and anxiety regarding the change in leadership ranged from ‘none at all’ to ‘very concerned’.

Eighty-seven people responded to the open-ended question “How can the Transition Team help you and your family in making a smooth transition.” The most common response was, “Keep us informed!” [Which is what we’re doing now.] Parishioners also want an opportunity to get to know the new pastor and his background, as well as an opportunity for him to know the parish and the people. [Good idea – there will be an opportunity for that when he arrives in July.] The other responses pointed out that while we should expect some change, there WILL be continuity in that the parish staff, Deacons Dan and Pete, and the Transition Team will remain. [As will all of you!]

One question dealt with the fear of loss, and while 30% did not feel anything would be lost, the most common fears were loss of good liturgies and the loss of personal relationships with Kirsten and Fr. David.

The last question asked, “What are you currently doing to prepare yourself and/or your family for the transition?” 80% said they are already praying for the new pastor, and 30% are praying for guidance for Bishop Barnes!

Your responses gave the Transition Team more ‘homework’ for the upcoming months and will keep us grounded. For example, you pointed out that the Transition Team needs to be active beyond the change on July 1st, even after the new pastor has arrived. And we need to remember that changes in leadership happen every year in every diocese. And it usually goes very well. Most importantly, we need to be available to listen to you, and answer any questions you might have. – Fr. David and the Transition Team

"Catholic teaching offers a consistent set of moral principles for assessing issues, platforms, and campaigns. Because of our faith in Jesus Christ, we start with the dignity of the human person. Our teaching calls us to protect human life from conception to natural death, to defend the poor and vulnerable, and to work toward a more just society and a more peaceful world" (Administrative Board, US Bishops, Faithful Citizenship, 1999, p.5)

The election season is upon us with primaries taking place in the next few months and the national election in November. It is our civic duty as Catholics and US citizens to participate in the elections and not leave it to some else to do. We must pray for wisdom, educate ourselves, and we must vote our Catholic conscience and not party politics.

We must pray and so our Respect Life Ministry invites you to join us on Tuesday, March 25 from 5pm to 10pm for Adoration to the Blessed Sacrament. We will have sign-ups next weekend March 22/23.

Catholic Daughters of the Americas

These are a few more situations that call for the help of a Stephen Minister. We have 3 new male Stephen Ministers who are ready to help.

“Six Weeks - Maybe a Little Longer”” As I look down at her lying in her hospital bed, my mind is flooded with memories. The day we first met. I can see her so clearly in my mind, and hear her lilting laughter. She was always so full of life. If only we’d gone to the doctor sooner. How can I ever continue without her?? And what will happen to our beautiful daughter??

“Exhausted” The day in, day out routine of caring for her is finally getting to me, and the doctor says she isn’t getting better. I’m exhausted!! I have a constant dull ache in my head and back, and am even bigger ache in my heart. How can I continue taking care of her when I don’t feel capable of helping myself?? What can we do ??

“Hospitalized” The doctor made it sound so simple—” It will take only a few days of hospital care and you’ll be home again.” The few days have turned into a few weeks, and I am really worried about my job and family. Will it still be there for me?? And what about my kids?? Now the doctor says they are performing more tests. Where does it all end??

Stephen Ministry

Wednesday, March 19th at 10:00 is our next general meeting. We will also have a pot luck followed by a mini-retreat. For more information contact Tricia at 909-795-3229

BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY

Grief Share

Grief Share is a special 6-week series for anyone grieving the death of someone close. It's a place where participants are surrounded by people who understand the pain and struggles of such loss. Participants obtain valuable information from each other that will help them through this most difficult time in their life. In an atmosphere of love and confidentiality, we learn to open our hearts, share our stories, and allow ourselves to be healed. If you are suffering the loss of a loved one, come join us for a new grief share session that begins on March, 20, 2014 and ends on April 24, 2014. Sessions are held weekly on Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. These sessions are open to anyone who has lost a loved one through death. In order to maintain cohesiveness among attendees, once the session has started no others can be admitted. For additional information and sign-up, please contact Ursula at 909-797-0446 or Margo at 909-797-2533 ext. 225.
