“FROM THE DESK OF FR. FALLON” Happy Sunday Everyone! We’ve got some great news and a special welcome to announce! This school year we’ll be blessed to have two seminarians with us at St. Es! Ben Armentrout is a seminarian for the Diocese of Kansas City--St. Joseph. He is in Theology III (which means he’ll be ordained a deacon in the spring, with just one year un l priesthood ordina on)! Ben will be here on Sundays and will provide a leadership role in our RCIA classes. Michael Willey is a seminarian for the Diocese of Knoxville, TN. Michael is a Pre-Theology II seminarian. Every seminarian needs two years of forma on before he can enter the final state, theology. We’re grateful to have him here with us! So what does all this mean for you? It means we get to journey with two men of faith who are preparing to be priests. And we can all learn from one another. I have to tell you my assignments (Ascension, Cathedral, St. Monica, St. Clement) helped me to realize a lot about the Church and about each parish. So let’s welcome—and pray for!—these our seminarians! A Word about the Gospel In a lot of ways it doesn’t make sense to me how Jesus treats his entourage. He’s got huge crowds following Him, singing His praises, and then He tells them unless they hate their parents and rela ves and carry their crosses, they can’t be His disciple. I don’t think I’d be pos ng that on social media along with a selfie with Jesus. But what it makes me think about is Jesus’ disregard for what popular opinion says. He is not swayed by what people think of Him, or se ng the record straight. He is concerned about one thing: doing the Will of His Father, to save us from sin and death. How can Jesus be so blithe about what people think? How can He say such harsh things to those following Him? Because He knows who He IS. And He longs for us to know who we are, too. The defini on of who we ARE comes from Him. He is the one who longs to fill us up and give us our true iden ty. Then we can carry our crosses, and yes, even renounce family if need be. Anyway, I’ll try to save some for the homily… ALSO GO TO CONFESSION IF IT’S BEEN A WHILE! I GET BORED SITTING IN THAT BOX RIGHT BEHIND YOU! Peace, FF

EVERY 40 SECONDS, SOMEONE IN THE U.S. IS HAVING A STROKE!

Stroke Scan Plus will be at St. Elizabeth of Hungary on Thursday, September 26, 2019 to provide life-saving, wellness ultrasound

screenings. It is important to perform preventive maintenance for ourselves yearly. Do you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease, stroke, abdominal aneu-rysm or internal cancers? If so, do not miss this opportunity for early detection of a possibly serious dis-ease. These screenings are typically NOT performed at your annual check-up, and insurance companies may not pay for them unless you are symptomatic. Diagnostic versions of these screenings cost thousands of dollars in a hospital. Stroke Scan Plus will be offering them to you for $149 for all 7 combined ultrasound screenings (Stroke, AAA, AFIB & organs). Insurance is NOT necessary and appointments are limited. Stroke Scan representatives will be available at St. E’s for you to register on September 14 & 15, 2019 or please call 832-437-7355 or toll free 1-866-935-7226 to schedule an appointment today for you or a loved one. The screenings will take place in Meeting Room 1. Prevention is your key to quality health! www.strokescan.com.
